It’s no secret that vintage trucks and SUVs have been a hot commodity in the collector car market for some time now. They offer the practicality of being used to haul people or stuff, while still being able to take to Cars and Coffee, Show and Shine events, and weekend cruises. Many of these are upgraded with newer drivetrains, better brakes, slicker paint jobs, but few ever see the level of craftsmanship of our featured Chevy 3100.
This Chevy 3100 has been the subject of an outstanding restoration/customization. Every nut, bolt, and washer from nose to tail has been painstakingly scrutinized, with the end result a spectacular, show-ready creation.
The exterior of this Chevy 3100 has been treated to a finely finished, glossy Crystal Red Pearl. The finish exudes amazing prep and attention to detail. The chrome has been replated, and what little remaining brightwork there is has been polished to a fault. All the glass and weatherstrip are as new. The panel fit throughout is far better than when new. The truck rolls on BC Forged 20- and 22-inch wheels wearing Pirelli tires. Wilwood power discs hide behind the oversize wheels.
The Chevy 3100’s spotless engine bay is every bit the measure of the exterior. The firewall and interior fenders have been smoothed. The paint is the same glistening Crystal Red Pearl. Gone is the original engine, replaced by a potent LS 6.0-liter unit, topped with a FiTech Ultimate LS intake and controller kit, COMP cam and CVF accessory drive. Dual custom intakes, painted in the same striking hue, are topped with cone filters. The engine covers are also flawless Crystal Red Pearl. A polished Wilwood brake booster is fitted. The LS transmits power through a TREMEC T56 6-speed manual trans. Spent gasses are sent through MagnaFlow mufflers, ultimately leaving through a side exhaust that exits just ahead of the rear wheels.
The interior of the Chevy 3100 is the epitome of sophisticated simplicity. The dash is smooth, coated in that glorious Crystal Red Pearl. The sculpted bench seat is covered in sumptuous distressed leather, as is the steering wheel, the door panels, and the Vintage Air system mounted beneath the dash. The gauges are black-on-white. The buttons and knobs are few, and there is a Kenwood touch-screen centrally mounted.
The bed of the Chevy 3100 is like few others. The bed floor has been done in a gorgeous burled elm with chrome strips. The paint on the bed walls is the same as on the rest of the truck, without a nick or scratch anywhere.
The underside of the Chevy 3100 sports Heidts Superide II suspension and a rear 4-bar kit. It is as spotless as the rest of the truck.
This stunning Chevy 3100 is headed to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in March 2021.
