Design trends come and go in the auto industry, but these days, one design trend in particular seems to be lingering longer than most. Of course, we’re talking about the black-out color theme, with a swath of vehicles across the industry offering head-to-toe black coloring for nearly every single component capable of holding paint. GM has capitalized on the trend with its own variety of special edition models and packages, and now, certain GM owners have a chance to add yet another blacked-out design touch with black lug nuts.
The black GM lug nuts follow a cascade of black design cues from the automaker. Just a few examples would include black grille treatments, black exterior trim, black window surrounds (or daylight openings, otherwise known as DLO treatments), and black wheels. However, until now, GM has only offered lug nuts with a chrome finish. Now, these black GM lug nuts complete the black-out theme even further.
The black GM lug nuts are available both with and without locking capability. We’ve listed the various components on offer below, including the relevant RPO codes for each item in parentheses:
- Black lug nuts (SPY)
- Black wheel locks (SPZ)
- Black Wheel Lug Nuts and Locks Package (PCL), includes Black wheel locks (SPZ) and Black lug nuts (SPY)
Each of these items is offered as an LPO level accessory, which means they are shipped to and installed by the dealer, rather than installed at the factory.
The black GM lug nuts are available for the following vehicles:
- Chevy Camaro
- Chevy Corvette
- Chevy Blazer (SPZ only)
- Chevy Traverse (SPZ only)
- GMC Acadia (SPZ only)
The black GM lug nuts will also fit the Cadillac CT5 and Cadillac XT4.
What’s more, they should theoretically fit the Cadillac CT4, Cadillac XT5, and Cadillac XT6, although GM Authority has yet to confirm this.
It’s also uncertain how scratch resistant these items are, and how the black finish would interact with socket when used to remove a wheel.
According to the official Chevrolet Accessories website, black GM lug nuts for the 2021 Chevy Camaro are available for $195.

Umm… get some Gorilla locking black lug nuts for $70. That’s what I did for my Camaro seven years ago.
This is something I have to look into for my Camaro. I need some more black accessories to darken up my black Redline 2SS (also thinking about getting some black tire stem caps from Autozone/O’Reillys). $195 seems pretty excessive for a set of 20.
Thread? Size? Can you list that?
Varies based on the car they are for. Most of the trucks are m14x1.5 cars m12x1.5. They do vary in length and because of that there are some slight length differences. The Camaro and the trucks are both M14x1.5 but use different kits because the lugs are shorter on Camaro.
I was seeing if I could nab a set that would fit my G2 Volt.
$195 is a lot of money for black lug nuts. Some third party will soon offer them for less.
Gorilla has made black locking lug nuts for years at ~$75 and they are top quality. I have them on both my ’11 Camaro SS and my ’17 Corvette GS. Save yourself a lot of money and skip the GM Aftermarket catalog all together. Their parts typically cost 2-3 times as much as 3rd party manufacturers.
OMG! Just another excuse to jack the price up on already too expensive vehicles. It must be a deal breaker for some customers when looking at buying a new truck. Hmm… should I go with the black LUG nuts or something else??? I see sales increasing already. (Eyes rolling 🤣)
Where do the black wheel nuts for my 2019 Traverse RS come from . . . because I have already asked the dealer to replace the locks once because of rust and the replacements are just as rusty after a few months. I’m in Canada, so we may use a different supplier.
Very frustrating, it makes the vehicle look cheap, and it was not cheap.
They look good but not at that price.
I’ve got a GMC 1500 2020 it come with Black lug
Nuts & locks. No rust yet.
Uh. GM has been using black lugs since the T1 introduction in mid 2018 for 2019 model year.
Two years.
