Chevy Blazer, Equinox And GMC Terrain Get TSB For Transmission Clutch Spring Retaining Ring

General Motors has issued a service bulletin for certain examples of the Chevy Blazer, Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers due to an issue related to the transmission clutch spring retaining ring.

The problem: on affected vehicles, the transmission clutch spring retaining ring may not be fully seated due to a manufacturing defect. In vehicles with this condition, a transmission malfunction indicator warning light will appear on the dashboard, alerting the driver of the issue. This warning light will appear when the vehicle is relatively new and with low mileage on the odometer. This problem affects vehicles in dealership inventory only, GM has determined, so no action will be required by owners of these vehicles.

The hazards: GM did not say what problems an unseated transmission clutch spring retaining may lead to, although as noted above, the problem will produce a malfunction indicator warning light on the dashboard. This problem will also produce a diagnostic trouble code (or DTC) of P0747.

The fix: dealers will inspect affected vehicles and replace the transmission clutch spring retaining ring.

Affected component: transmission clutch spring retaining ring.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2020 Chevy Blazer
  • 2021 Chevy Blazer
  • 2020 Chevy Equinox
  • 2020 GMC Terrain
  • 2021 GMC Terrain

  11. General motors knew about this problem in the development stages of these transmissions and like one of the commenters stated they took the lowest price bid on the cheapest material to build these transmissions, using stamped metals instead of cast just to Safeway but was proven to be a problem because of heat, and any of you people who voted thumbs down on people complaining about their vehicles shame on you do you work for general motors or are you just ignorant?

  12. My 2015 Terrain suffered the dreaded transmission wave plate failure. I was doing 60 when it dropped down into limp mode and started slamming randomly thru gears. Wasn’t a module issue. Just bought a 2019 Terrain Denali same 3.6 l 4 wheel drive package. I have 16,000 miles on it. I made 100,000 on the last before any problems. I hope we don’t have any probs with this one.
