Chevrolet Venture Filmed Dragging Its Bumper Down The Freeway: Video

The /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit is a great way for car enthusiasts such as ourselves to kill some time. The page is full of perfect examples of how not to drive, from running red lights to driving over wet cement, but a recent post involving a Chevrolet Venture van stood out to us from the rest.

The post in question shows a white Chevrolet Venture driving down what appears to be the Interstate 40 just outside of Shawnee, Oklahoma. This would normally be a completely unremarkable scene, except the family van has a fairly major issue with it: the plastic rear bumper is dragging on the ground and is hanging on by what appears to be a single clip on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

This scene is pretty funny and is made even more comedic by the hysterical laughs of the occupants in the car the filmer is in. We do hope someone informed the driver of the Chevrolet Venture their bumper was hanging off, though. This would be a large piece of debris to fall off into the road and would have the potential to cause an accident or a traffic backup. Furthermore, it appears as though the van is fitted with a handicap license plate, suggesting the driver is either disabled or old. That could explain why they can’t hear the sound of it scraping along the highway at 60 mph.

The Chevrolet Venture went out of production following the 2005 model year, so even if this is a late-model version of the family van, it’s still pretty old. Perhaps this mishap will convince the driver to upgrade to something slightly newer.

  1. Hey we’ve stooped to a new low. It looks like there should be a cop chasing behind it but not in the camera view. lol

  2. Exactly what is so funny about the rear bumper coming off on an interstate causing a possible fatal accident? I can see GMA is always looking for journalists which must be the reason you’re still employed.

  4. Hello, 911, what is your emergency?

Yes, hello? I’m driving a white Chevy van on interstate 40. I’m being followed!

Yes, hello. This is 911. You say you are being followed?

Yes. No matter what I do, the idiot in some white vehicle is following me very closely. In fact, they are so close, all I can see it the bumper.

Do you have any description of the vehicle following you?

No, other than it’s white. The idiot is driving very recklessly and literally following so close it’s like they are attached to my van.

Ok, just stay calm. The police are on their way

  5. I’m surprised the rest of this van is still intact !! This was a real POS !! Yes, I was a GM tech back in the 90’s bad motors and the transmission was no better.

    1. I owned a 2003 Venture. The transmission was what finally gave out. Drove it until the thing slipped too much to trust anymore.
And that’s fine, because the rockers had rusted completely off.
