The GM Authority Take
Chevy Low Cab Forward sales during the fourth quarter of 2020 saw a year-over-year drop. The results represent the second decrease in year-over-year sales since the Low Cab Forward launched in late 2016, following a decrease in Q3 2020 sales (down 20 percent) and increases in Q2 2020 (up 18 percent) as well as in Q1 2020 (up 55 percent).
No matter, the performance still enabled GM to add 1,143 units to its overall sales tally that it would otherwise not have had. It’s also worth noting that Low Cab Forward sales improved 3 percent for the 2020 calendar year.
We posit that the decrease in Chevy LCF sales during Q3 2020 was the result of the negative impact brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the associated commercial, economic and lifestyle disruptions brought about by the virus.
The Chevrolet Low Cab Forward (LCF) are medium-duty trucks that are the product of a partnership between GM and Isuzu Motors announced in June 2015. The trucks were developed and are built by Isuzu, with GM providing some components, notably the gasoline engines.
The LCF is offered as a 3500, 4500, 5500, or 6500 model, and is available with the GM 6.0L L96 Vortec gasoline engine (for 2017-2020 models) or the 6.6L L8T V8 (for the 2021 and newer model year), as well as one of two Isuzu diesel engines – a 3.0-liter four-cylinder or a 5.2-liter four-cylinder. Chevrolet LCF 3500, 4500, and 5500 models are a rebadged Isuzu N-Series, while the 6500XD is a rebadged Isuzu F-Series. A Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 7500XD model with a higher GVWR is expected either for the 2021 or 2022 model years.
The Low Cab Forward trucks are an integral part of Chevy’s strategy to deliver a “complete solution” for commercial fleet customers, ranging from light-duty midsize pickups (Colorado) and light-duty full-size pickups (Silverado 1500) to full-size heavy-duty pickups (Silverado HD) and medium-duty chassis cabs (Silverado MD). The “complete solution” approach is vital as it keeps fleet customers within the Chevrolet family, rather than purchasing vehicle from and servicing them at disparate brands. In addition, the Low Cab Forward models provide incremental sales volume and revenue for GM, without significant investment, effort or risk.

This product of the decades old cooperation between GM and Isuzu. For some years, GM owned a minority stake in Isuzu. When GM withdrew from South Africa, GM sold the factory in the Struandale (Stuandale ?) section of Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay.
I want to relate another facility with a common GM-Isuzu history which connects to recent events also reported on this blog. I simply copy from the the article “Opel Manufacturing Poland” on en.Wikipedia dot org:

Engine factory in Tychy
Formerly GM Powertrain Poland and before that Isuzu Motors Polska Sp. z o.o. or ISPOL was opened in 1996 by Isuzu as an alternate production site for the Circle L engine, also produced in the United States at the DMAX joint venture. However, Isuzu’s financial troubles caused General Motors to take control with 60% of ISPOL’s capital in 2002. Since then the plant manufactured over two million engines for Opel/Vauxhall. The engines are for various Opel/Vauxhall models.
In 2013, General Motors Company purchased the remaining 40% shares of the Tychy plant from Isuzu Motors Ltd.
In preparation for the sale by GM of the brands Opel and Vauxhall with the whole of the Opel/Vauxhall automobile business in Europe per August 1, 2017, this factory was transferred in the property of Opel Automobile GmbH, which was sold to PSA.
On March 21, 2018 PSA announced that this factory would be retooled to produce 3-cylinder “Puretech” petrol engines to be delivered to PSA’s factory in Trnava, Slovakia, saving hundreds of kilometers in transport, and avoiding to build an engine factory at the Trnava site.

In the town of Tychy, in the South West of Poland, is also the Fiat factory located for several decades, and since January 16, 2021, the former Fiat-CHRYSLER factory and the former GM-Isuzu factory are now owned by the same US-French-Italian conglomerate Stellantis. The cars assembled in the ex-Fiat factory may in future receive their engines from the former GM-factory.
A little piece of history, only slightly off-topic, methinks.
BTW, the town of Tychy is also widely know for the Tyskie beer. Tysky is the adjective to Tychy.
