2021 Chevy Silverado HD Now Available With Black Power-Retract Assist Steps

Anyone concerned about ease of ingress and egress with the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD should consider optioning the heavy-duty pickup with black power-retractable assist steps, which are now available to order with the latest Silvy HD.

Customers can now order the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD (2500HD model) with black power-retractable assist steps, which are tagged with RPO code B3L. The optional upgrade includes LED perimeter lighting that add nighttime safety and comfort, as well as textured step pads for secure footing. The assist steps also retract when not in use, and come with Deploy Running Board mode suited for car wash cleaning.

Pricing for the black power-retractable assist steps on the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD is set at $1,895. The option is only available on the LTZ trim level, and requires one of the following three packages, which are listed below with their relevant RPO code in parentheses:

  • Z71 Sport Edition (WEA)
  • Midnight Edition (WJP)
  • Carhartt Special Edition (CSE)

The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD is the second model year of the latest fourth-generation vehicle, with a complete overhaul (redesign and reengineering) introduced for the 2020 model year. Updates for the latest 2021 model year include the addition of Mosaic Black Metallic and Cherry Red Tintcoat to the list of exterior color options, as well as the deletion of Shadow Gray Metallic and Cajun Red Tintcoat. The latest Silverado HD also features the addition of Wireless Phone Projection for Apply CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the skin, the 2021 Silverado HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, while two engine options are on the table, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gas engine, which produces 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, which produces 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. As GM Authority covered previously, 2500HD Custom models are now available with the diesel 6.6L V8 engine.

  3. Will these actually work for more than a couple years in Northern States for that price. I don’t know anyone who has power running boards that has not had them replaced. I don’t know if it’s a snow/ice problem but I know tons of people who they broke on.
    Cool idea but never last.
