The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD offers impressive capability right out of the box, with a stout, heavy-duty powertrain and the specs needed to get the job done. However, new buyers currently do not have access to the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD’s Advanced Trailering Package, as the optional upgrade is no longer available to order.
For now, the Advanced Trailering Package is unavailable as a result of supply constraints, GM Authority has learned. It’s uncertain when the optional upgrade will once again be available to order, or even if the package will be available before the end of Chevy Silverado HD production for the 2021 model year.
The Advanced Trailering Package for the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD is tagged with RPO code ZL6, and features the following content (relevant RPO code listed in parentheses):
- Hitch Guidance with Hitch View (PZ8)
- Advanced Trailering System (U1D)
- Chevrolet Infotainment System with 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen (IOS)
- USB ports, SiriusXM with 360L (MCR)
- HD radio (U2L)
- HD Rear Vision Camera (UVB)
Prior to its latest unavailability, the Advanced Trailering Package was offered on 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD LT and 3500HD LT trim levels, including all cab configurations.
As a reminder, the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD is offered with two powertrain options, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gas-powered engine, which produces 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and connects to a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, which produces 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, and connects to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Silverado HD entered an all-new fourth generation for the 2020 model year. The latest Silverado HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, and is produced at the GM Flint Assembly facility in Flint, Michigan, and the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

They even dropped the PCM Convenience II package from LT as well as a result of this for the time being.
No HD produced at Fort Wayne assembly since the light duty t1 launch a few years ago. All Hd r built in flint now.
Been a GM product user for decades. Almost every new design I see, I want to hurl. The packages are terrible, styles and looks are crap, electronics are stupid, and the trucks are over priced by thousands. What happened to original, classic looks and packages? Leave the electronic stuff out, use better quality metal, and put Ft. Wayne back on the map for building my Chevrolet trucks. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. My 2 cents.
I have to agree with this gentleman. I have a GMC built in Indiana and its been great! Its hard to get excited to spend that much (too much) for a Pick up truck. I don’t need nor want electronics overflowing in my Truck. I want a capable truck that looks good and functional. I don’t see that happening……shame.
GM needs an overhaul! Get rid of those that are striking and hire new employees that want a job! They won’t sell many trucks if they don’t get the best selling truck on.the market loaded with accessories people want and need in a truck!
Supplier issues dude
And with that announcement, another 25k Ford Super Duty’s are sold.
Pretty sure all automakers (and other industries) are experiencing supply issues, just saw one about chip shortages at a Ford plant.
no , not all manufactures are the same, ordered new 2021 Ram 3500 mega cab 4×4 HO diesel, air ride loaded w/ all options on Nov 26 , and I pick it up tomorrow. bought my first one in 2016 , this is a upgrade , Cummins motors pull , pull, pull , no cheap black plastics all over the truck, two tone paint , full open doors, quality leather , beautiful interiors, HD transmission and I cant say enough good, I own a 2019 GmC denali 2500 diesel, 4×4 , it ride great, but the quality is crap, cheap thin seats, cheap interior , stupid electronics, bumper sensors with false alarms, cheap black plastic in wheel wells, cab steps, bumper steps, all cheap crap plastic, cheap good year tires, cheap, cheap, cheap, no wow factor, black only interiors
So sad, the rich cannot have all of their little toys.
Can’t we just have a full metal truck again. Doors, 4×4, steering wheel , dash ,full bench seat, and nothing wrong with the radio, affordable, dam we farm,we ranch, we cut wood,we haul,we pull, and if we go to town you can bet more then likely I’m not in a polo n leather shoes and case. JS.
Cameras for hitch guidance and also on mirros for lane change I really do like makes my life easier for towing and safer for everyone. I’m not much on the passenger tow mirrors the field of view sucks I have a 2000 model dodge I can put a trailer where I want with the old mirrors that have a greater field of view. Just my 2 cents
