Almost a year after introducing the crossover as Chevrolet’s first fully electric vehicle in China, General Motors has just launched the 2021 Chevrolet Menlo EV in the Asian country, where this model is exclusively sold. The company announced that the second model year of the Menlo EV gets several equipment upgrades and is now available to order in the Chinese market.
The Menlo EV was specifically designed and developed to be the Bow Tie brand’s first electric vehicle in China, where the Chevrolet Bolt EV is not marketed. In particular, the 2021 Chevrolet Menlo EV receives more exterior customization options and an improved cabin, while keeping the same price for all its versions.
Aesthetically, the only new feature of the 2021 Chevrolet Menlo EV is the addition of three new paint colors called Silver Zirconia, Lithium Red and Iridium Blue. These new hues join the four exterior colors that the crossover was first offered with in the Chinese market – Magnesium Blue, Platinum White, Titanium Gray and Zinc Blue – to meet the individual preferences of a greater number of customers.
Meanwhile, in addition to the standard leather interiors across the lineup, the mid- and high-end variants of the 2021 Menlo EV now includes perforated leather seats to improve both appearance and comfort. The cabin upgrades are completed by a new generation of the OnStar telematics system as standard, featuring a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and more than 50 smart services.
The entire 2021 Chevrolet Menlo EV range retains the only powertrain available for the model since its debut last year, with an output of 148 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which works in conjunction with a 52.5-kWh battery that provides a driving range of up to 256 miles (410 kilometers) on a single charge – according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test.
The 2021 Chevrolet Menlo EV is now available throughout the brand’s dealer network in China, the only country in the world where the electric crossover is currently manufactured and sold. Indeed, thanks to its low price point, the Menlo EV is GM’s weapon to end the dominance of Chinese brands in the pure electric vehicle segment. The complete list of subsidized prices is as follows:
- Menlo EV Starshare: 159,990 CNY (about $24,740 USD at current exchange rate)
- Menlo EV Galaxy: 164,900 CNY ($25,500 USD)
- Menlo EV Nebula: 174,900 CNY ($27,050 USD)
- Menlo EV Starlux: 179,900 CNY ($27,830 USD)

Chevy should consider rebadging this as the new Chevy Bolt.
isn’t this basically the bolt euv?
No, the Menlo shares its platform with the Buick Velite 6 wagon. The Bolt EUV is similar to the Buick Velite 7 CUV, which is already on sale in China.
Why? It has less range and less power with less tech than a Bolt EV at a price that isn’t much different.
It is a good looking car but don’t like the name of it.
A beautiful color, Iridium Blue or Zinc Blue? Sure like to see that color on the USA. Tired with everything dark, black, grays, and most other colors offered.
I HOPE that the Bolt EUV looks that good!
It is a decently handsome car. So, why does only China get it? Should gm not be leveraging its so called worldwide resources and electric future and building these in US factories for Americans as well? They keep chopping here and adding there. This car could serve the market abandoned by axing the Cruze. It’s as if gm’s waiting for Chinese companies to flood the American market with their own EVs to forever displace gm at home. Rest assured, our new government will roll out the red carpet for them.
