Silverado Trail Boss Accounts For 20 Percent Of Silverado 1500 Sales In The U.S.

The Chevy Silverado Trail Boss offers impressive off-road prowess wrapped in a capable pickup package, making for one very tempting offering. The Silverado Trail Boss is so tempting, in fact, it accounts for 20 percent of Silverado 1500 sales in the U.S.

As GM Authority confirmed with Assistant Manager, Product and Brand Communications, Chevy Trucks & Full-Size SUVs, Mike Ofiara, the Silverado Custom Trail Boss and Silverado LT Trail Boss make up 20 percent of all Silverado 1500 sales in the U.S.

Per the Q3 Chevy Silverado sales figures, General Motors sold 310,593 units of the Silverado 1500 in the U.S. in the first nine months of the year. Using the 20 percent figure confirmed by Ofiara, that means The General sold roughly 62,119 Silverado Trail Boss models during the same time period. Note that General Motors currently does not sell the Silverado HD in Trail Boss guise, although GM Authority readers have expressed interest in such a model, per a poll conducted last year.

It’s also worth noting that sales figures for Q3 of 2019 and Q3 of 2020 are artificially depressed, with the former affected by the 2019 UAW labor strike, and the latter affected by production stoppages resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The sales figures are expected to climb higher as supply issues are resolved, as well as with the introduction of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, which will introduce a significant refresh that will include new exterior styling, the latest tech features (such as Super Cruise with towing), and critically, an all-new cockpit design, all of which should make the Silverado Tail Boss even more competitive.

As a reminder, the Silverado Trail Boss integrates the off-road equipment offered by the Z71 package, as well as a substantial two-inch suspension lift. The trim also includes 18-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, an Autotrac two-speed transfer case, and a few other bits and pieces.

  2. Most of them probably don’t even see a gravel road😂

    1. I do not get either if you do not need it for off-roading why on a daily basis use more gas, have a rougher ride and listen to the loud tires but it is there money. GM knows this why do you think optional off-road and regular z71 tires are not off-road tires.

      1. Actually the higher side walls (compared to a 20 or 22 inch Silverado rim) and softer offroad suspension would be smooth ride. And the Duratracs at pretty quiet, windows up and radio on you likely would notice them versus a highway all season.

  3. Of this generation Silverado, the TrailBoss, red in particular, is by far the best looking or maybe I should say “less ugly” model. I believe this generation is a good truck but the styling has been a little too controversial. A red Trail Boss seems to help calm that down!
Ordered a dbl cab Custom with the 6.2 in April, cancelled due to ventilator demand. Re-ordered in June, cancelled because they were putting the limited number of 6.2 motors in higher end stuff. Ordered the third time the second week of July, same thing as June. Read on here on GMA a re-fresh was coming for 2022 and I realized those should be out about August 2021 so I get the production delays.

  4. I ordered a 2019 Custom Trail Boss crew cab and I love it.Best truck ever for me,save for my 1972 C10 that I had as a teenager. This is my 14th Chevy truck and I won’t buy other junk.I love the styling, it’s aggressive and mean looking to me and after a few modest add ons it is perfect. If you are interested in add ons…Hypertech React is a great add.It gives you throttle body adjustable modes with sensitivity control.I got the Off Road model and it wakes up the acceleration big time.I threw in an AFE dryflow air filter,FlowFX muffler and a JLT Performance oil catch can….The power is up and +3.2mpg.I put this stuff on all my rides.

    1. Can we get your company discount on the parts you are hawking? LOL at gaining 3+ mpg with a catch can, exhaust, air filter and throttle optimizer (none of which does anything remotely impactful for mpg). Nice try though, salesmen… That is almost on the same bad level as those trying to get everyone to buy and use their pyramid scheme amsoil products.

Best truck ever? You have barely had it, did you mean nicest truck ever or fanciest? You need to wait ten years to make that determination, could have issues or a failure and then it no longer is the best ever. So many people make that judgement when they get a new vehicle, because it is at that time the nicest they have had yet.

  5. I only trust Hypertech and they don’t offer a programmer sadly.GM has encrypted the ECM’s nowadays and I am sure the fees are steep to get in.Hennessey is still trying to get into the C8 ECM to tune his stuff.I like the stock exhaust system tubing now also, it’s 2 3/4″ stainless steel and a muffler swap is all that’s necessary for more flow.Going to 3″ over stock isn’t noticeable enough to offset the system cost.I spent $39 on the Flowmaster FlowFX stainless steel muffler and it has a moderate sound yet wide open.Great buy. Also the dryflow air filter flows great without oiling it,just Dawn&water baby.I am probably going to install JBA shorty headers(silver ceramic) soon, bolts right up to factory exhaust system fittings. That will end my add-ons.I also installed Sealight LED’s,way better! For $75 you cannot beat it,plus I installed the Nilite curved LED off-road light and in the fog light spots I put in Nilite flood lights. The Nilite lights cost me @$100 at Amazon and they are fantastic.

    1. you have to watch what modifications you make, it may give them a reason to deny warranty claims

  7. GM has been watching the off-road market pass them by for years. Glad they are finally figuring out that off-road sales. I will give credit to the ZR2 Colorado. They done a nice job with those. The Trail Boss is also nice but it’s simply a proper Z71. Still waiting for a serious off-road full-size. At this point if it’s anything short of the Raptor or TRX it will be a swing and miss.

  8. Now make the Saudi standard cab an option here and I will purchase one.

  10. Still waiting for GM to come out with something to compete with the Raptor or Ram Rebel TRX.

    1. I do not see the Trail Boss as a competitor to the Raptor or TRX. The Trail Boss is significantly less money than those trucks. It would be nice if GM had a truck at that level, but it also nice having an off-road option that is not over the top and has mainstream pricing.

  11. I sold accessories and parts for 15 years but that was 16 years ago.I am still a parts guy at heart but I don’t work for a company that sells that kind of stuff.Go ahead and be a jerk though.I am just reviewing my add-ons if anyone was interested.People add performance parts all the time without issues. The truck has only 12,0000 miles so break in?Nope,I have added this kind of stuff for 30 years and it always seems to be effective.I can tell right away that is is my best truck because of the build quality and refinements that we all wish there were many years ago.
