The Chevrolet Trax first arrived stateside for the 2015 model year, with the latest 2021 Chevy Trax receiving just a few minor changes and updates over the preceding 2020 model year. While a variety of options are offered, Chevy Trax buyers are fond of the subcompact crossover’s Midnight Edition and Sport Edition packages – so much so, in fact, one in five Chevrolet Trax buyers opt for one of the two packages.
The sales insight was announced in a recent Chevy press release, which points to the success of the Midnight Edition and Sport Edition packages with the Trax as the motivation behind offering similar packages with the 2021 Chevy Traverse.
The packages add a selection of aesthetic enhancements to the crossover, giving it a special look to set it apart from the rest of the model lineup.
For example, the 2021 Chevy Trax Sport Edition package includes 18-inch Gloss Black Aluminum wheels, black badging, and black beltline moldings. The Sport Edition also adds in black skid plates front and rear. Pricing is set at $470.
Meanwhile, the Midnight Edition package also gives the Trax a stylish new look with similar black-themed bits and pieces, plus black paint. Highlights once against include 18-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels, black badging, black skid plates, and black beltline moldings, while the body panels are covered in Mosaic Black Metallic paint. Pricing for the Midnight Edition package is also set at $470.
Under the skin, the Chevrolet Trax rides on the GM Gamma II platform, which is also shared with the first-generation Buick Encore. Up until recently, motivation was derived from the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LUV gas engine, which produces 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, connecting to the six-speed MNK automatic transmission. However, after 2021 model production started, the Trax received an engine swap, adopting the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LE2 engine instead, which produces 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Both FWD and AWD are available.

GM needs to make heated seats standard in all levels of Trax trim groups. It is a bit outrageous to pay top dollar for a Trax Premier just to get heated seats. No wonder people shift over to the likes of Hyundai and Kia.
Five out of five Chevy Trax buyers should have bought something else.
