2026 Chevy Bolt EV: Five Things We Would Change From The Previous Gen
Comments
GM needs to keep rolling the price back. It’s a little alarming that even with massive discounts the Bolt has showed very little to no growth over the past few years. It seems like the market for the bolt is capped at around 20k units. Maybe GM would be wise to focus on improving the VSS-F platform and drivetrain over the next few years, if the Trailblazer is any indication, it could certainly use some tinkering. The Korean and the Japanese manufacturers are running away with the subcompact plus segment and gaining ground on the venerable Equinox.
Plus, just wait until the Chinese get here with their entry level city car called the Kandi, model K27 for under $20,000.!
the range is 59 miles. it is tiny. just looking at it makes you want to up your life insurance policy.
and at $20K, it is overpriced. there are plenty of sub $20K ICE vehicles better than this.
For a city/urban vehicle , purpose built, where one travels 35 miles per day, there may be applications that would meet the needs for many people looking for cheap transportation. Please give us a list of all the better deals currently available to the USA public. I am aware of the GM E300PLUS, made in China and not available to the American public. Any other examples of this type of city/urban vehicle would be appreciated.
there are at least 20 ICE vehicles less than $20K and i’d take any of them over the k27.
one of them is the chevrolet spark. would you rather have a $14K chevrolet spark or this $20K EV? i’d take the spark any day of the week.
if you insist on an EV, i can find plenty of $25K new chevrolet bolts. for $5K more, the bolt is at least four times the better vehicle.
Well, let’s not confuse apples with oranges. ICE and EVs are two different animals. If you don’t like the Kandi model 27 with 59 mile range, then take a look at the Kandi model 23 with 180 mile range. Granted, it is not a Cadillac Lyrica which does not fit the requirements for an affordable EV. You just can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. If we have any desire to work at cleaning the environment we all live in, we must make some changes. EVs are coming and I would like to see them as affordable for the income challenged people of America. It seems the manufacturers are working on “high end” vehicles like the Hummer EV, over $100000 or the Mustang EV, $50,000 and up. I know it is ancient history but look what Henry Ford did between 1909 to 1927 with the model T Ford. He almost cornered the American car market with an affordable automobile. I know we are at a different point in time, but I would like to see more effort being placed on Entry level all electric city/urban cars with an affordable price, a useful range and that can be charged at home from a 110 outlet.
the kandi 23 has a top speed of about 70mph. that is a joke.
there is a relatively cheap ev right now and that is the bolt at $25K. unfortunately gm is losing tons of money at that price.
manufacturers have to work at the high end because that is the only place where they have chance of making money.
the mustang EV starts at about $35K with tax incentives. that is reasonable for a lot of people.
Steve, My guess is you are not ready for the limiting qualities of a city/urban vehicle. For a transitional time period there is a need for both ICE and EVs. I suspect there are many people who could use a city/urban EV for the work week driving 35 miles a day or less and then use an ICE vehicle when highway travel is called for. I’ll keep looking for a pre incentive 25K Bolt or 35K mustang. Dealership prices have a strange way growing larger.
Not to sound like a broken record but everyone knows how I feel about the Bolt.
Great first attempt I guess but it needs to start at 25K or GM will continue to not sell many of them.
Too much competition on the way.
