Cadillac XT6 vs. Lincoln Aviator: Dimensional Comparison

GM debuted the Cadillac XT6 crossover utility vehicle (CUV) in January of 2019 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Slotting in as the largest CUV in Cadillac’s line of crossovers, the XT6 offers three rows to accommodate up to seven passengers. So how does it compare to its crosstown rival, the similarly all-new Lincoln Aviator? To find out, we dug out the spec sheets, placing both luxury crossovers side-by-side in the following GM Authority Dimensional Comparison.

Exterior Dimensions

To kick things off, let’s take a look at the exterior dimensions for both vehicles.

One quick glance at our comparison breakdown immediately reveals one thing – the Cadillac XT6 is definitely smaller than the Lincoln Aviator. This is most obvious when looking at the wheelbase and overall width for the CUVs, with the Aviator having an additional 6.4 inches and 2.3 inches, respectively, compared to the XT6. It’s worth noting that the wheelbase of the XT6 is shorter than that of the Aviator due to the Cadillac being derived from a front-drive architecture (the GM C1 platform), while the Aviator has rear-drive underpinnings (the Ford CD6 platform).

Most of the other XT6 specs are also down, including the overall length (-0.5 inches), front track (-0.5 inches), and rear track (-0.7 inches). The only exception here is overall height, with the XT6 standing 0.4 inches taller than the Aviator.

To note, the overall width measurements for both vehicles listed here do not include the sideview mirror width, while the overall heights do include the luggage rack.

Interior Dimensions

Inside the cabin, there are quite a few differences between the Cadillac XT6 and Lincoln Aviator in terms of available room, with the Caddy posting a loss to the Lincoln in several important measurements.

The biggest differences are in first-row shoulder room, first-row hip room, second-row shoulder room, and second-row hip room, with the Lincoln offering an extra 3.2 inches, 2.4 inches, 3.9 inches, and 2.6 inches, respectively. The Lincoln also has more first-row legroom, third-row shoulder room, and third-row hip room than the Cadillac.

The XT6 does manage to eke out a few victories, the biggest of which are in first-row headroom and second-row headroom, posting an extra 1.1 inches and 0.7 inches, respectively. Second-row legroom, third-row headroom, and third-row legroom are also greater in the Caddy, although only slightly.

To note, the headroom measurements listed here include the sunroof.

Here, we see the Cadillac XT6 besting the Lincoln Aviator in terms of available space behind the first and second rows, with an extra cubic-foot for both measurements. Unfortunately, the Caddy is down 6 cubic-feet behind the third row when compared to the Lincoln.

  1. Who gives a damn. Current cadillacs are cheap bs. Except for the slade’s dash. Xt whatever. Ct whatever. Fwd based bs with cheap buttons.
Hey, gm. Look at the Genesis and probably u will get an idea of how to build a brand and models. But I doubt it. Because ure too dumb, too slow. Too bean counters.

    1. If you don’t give a damn, why are you here and commenting? Go to a Genesis site if they’re so awesome. Based on how few I see on the streets, they can’t be that great.

    2. Hyundai has class action lawsuits for excessive oil consumption ,2016, 2017, 2018 for having defective piston rings. I Know we own one. All auto manufactures have issues and faults. I`v owned GM cars with the 3800 V6 engine and got over 250,000 miles out of them. Chevy Silverado trucks with the 5.3 liter V8 engine and got over 300,000 miles out of them including some towing.

  2. The Cadillac look like Iron Man had sex with the Predator and this is the face it got. The Lincoln Aviator is a nice eye catching return to luxury 1st Class SUV. It’s sad to say after being in this business so many years. Both Luxury Brands would do good to study the new import comer Genesis in term of Luxury Sedans for sure

  6. Caddilac is acting like they’re all about performance but when realistically, in the Aviator, it has a significant amount of more power. The XT6 has only has 310 horse power compared to the Aviator which has up to 495 horse power. If performance wasn’t Cadillacs brand I would be fine with this but if you claim your brand is all about performance, you need to have performance numbers and be better than your competition.

    1. When they claim the XT6 is about performance?, its an XTS crossover. I too pick the Aviator because of how I like my vehicles but the XT6 dose well for its intended market. IMO the XT6 should be rwd for its next redesign.

      1. I’m a performance guy thru and thru, but I can tell you that the XT6 drives very well. For 80% of the potential owners out there, the XT6 probably is enough.

Now I do agree that the TTv6 should be an option, but I never found the XT6 to be slow, even when fully loaded.

  11. Just bought the wife an xt6. Needed the extra room over the xt5 with the kids. I like the Lincoln overall looks but loathe cars with a tablet stuck on the dash. Also cadillacs adaptive cruise control is second to none and their tech is pretty refined.

    1. I agree. That whole tablet thing is the dumbest thing ever. But Lincoln definitely has a lot more tec including massaging seats, fully digital gauge cluster, and even ventilated seats in the back. I feel like usually what happens is Cadillac has a better exterior and slightly more safety features and Lincoln goes all out in the interior and the the features in it. In the end I guess it just depends on what the customer wants. (but you should really check out the monochromatic package on the reserve aviator)

  12. Just got a 2020 Aviator Reserve. Did lots of research on this SUV and the Genesis GV80. Genesis, in my opinion, has a serious credibility problem relative to their multiple delivery promises. Ford/Lincoln makes a quality product. I’ve had two Explores and one MKX. All high quality & very reliable. Never consider GM anymore since they couldn’t compete with their product and had to come “hat-in-hand” to we tax payers for a bailout.

  13. I just have to wonder why Cadillac made the XT6 on the shorter wheelbase used by the Blazer, Acadia, and XT5 rather than the LWB used by the Traverse and Enclave. Did they not want the XT6 to bump up against the Escalade?
