The mainstream subcompact crossover segment expanded 12 percent to 278,545 units during Q3 2020.
The GM Authority Take
We believe that Encore GX sales were held back by several factors stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, including delays in production and shipping from Korea, leading to sub-par availability at the retail level. We expect Buick Encore GX sales to rise significantly in the near-term future as supply reaches more favorable levels.
It’s also worth highlighting the fact that the Encore GX outsold the “regular” Encore during the quarter. We expect this circumstance to continue into the future as GM begins to decrease production of the Encore in favor of the Encore GX.

Well I guess that’s a good sign that people are warming up to it.
It looks awesome on the street, the sweep accent side sculpting is fantastic and is a great modern ode to and reminiscent of classic Buicks decades past.
I never would have thought that a 3 cylinder car would interest anyone who knows anything about cars. The owners probably don’t even know what the difference is.
I agree, but I noticed the horsepower of the 3-banger is higher than that of the 4.
Only if you opt for the 1.3 version
True. I still feel better driving a four than a three. I did once rent a Geo Metro that did all right on El Paso’s rising terrain, oddly enough.
Far and away more handsome than its competitors outselling it in the segment. Agree with Jeff G, it’s modern yet pays homage to the beautifully styled Buicks at the zenith of the Mitchell era. But if it’s made in China, it’s a non-starter – GM shooting themselves in the foot… again.
It’s not made in China… It’s made in the Republic of Korea, same as the original Encore and that does not seem to have affected sales.
Made in South Korea. As is regular Encore and Chev Trailblazer.
Whatever. If they’re going to sell them here, they ought to be building them here. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, BMW – they all get it. The last car I bought that made its way here by boat was my 2005 Holden Monaro aka Pontiac GTO. THAT was an exception – and for all the right reasons. Australia never even came close to eating our lunch and Holden was proudly building the affordable, well-engineered red-blooded American cars that domestic GM was incapable of or unwilling to produce.
Buick and Baseball, Hot Dogs and Apple Pie branded CUVs built in Asia on the other hand – and I’m not talking Oceania – will NEVER be on my list. Call me ignorant for my anti-globalist sentiments and utter lack of enthusiasm for spiraling and unwise continued US investment in China specifically and the Far East in general, but I’m certainly not alone nor unfounded in my thinking.
I agree we have more than enough room to make it profitable in the US. However GM Korea don’t just supply the US, it’s the entire SE Asia market that they make for GM.
Some of the most thoroughly American cars include Hondas from Ohio and Hyundais from Alabama.
Can I suggest that its a valid desire to want the best built American “branded” vehicle possible, no matter which nation’s people or combo thereof builds them? Oh, and folks, that may or may not necessarily be any of the north american countries.
Branded is BS. Globalism eats it. USA or the highway…
I am reluctant to consider buying one in the future. My primary concern is the CVT transmission. As a Saturn owner I frequented Saturn owners web sites. The first model run of the VUE has a CVT and it was a complete disaster. Nearly every owner mentioned on how their Vue’s transmission blew out. Saturn lost much of it’s reputation and customers on that issue alone. I would like to know if the CVT used in this Encore variation is built to quality standards and will be durable. If it is made and supplied to GM by the company that does so for Nissan I will never buy an Encore GTX. I am also curious as to why a 3 cylinder engine with what I think is that awful stop/start feature. How good is that engine? I will say that at the least my ION has a good 4 cylinder engine going for it. I have always liked the other Encore and even if GM discontinues it there will be plenty of certified off-lease Encores for sale over the next few years. I know that GM pushes al that technological crap but for myself it is durability and comfort.
