Consumer Guide Automotive has recognized the 2021 GMC Canyon pickup truck with its top Best Buy award.
The 2021 GMC Canyon was evaluated in Consumer Guide Automotive’s compact pickup truck category. However, the organization points out that “the vehicles in this class are almost as large as some full-size pickups were 30 years ago. Most of them are similar in size and ‘footprint’ to a midsize SUV.”
Other vehicles evaluated in the category include the Jeep Gladiator, the Honda Ridgeline, the Ford Ranger, the Nissan Frontier and the Toyota Tacoma, in addition to the Chevy Colorado which Consumer Guide also rated as a Best Buy in its segment.
The 2021 GMC Canyon was recognized for offering “up-to-date technology features and excellent all-around refinement, along with some options that its competitors can’t match.”
The organization points to the GMC Canyon Denali for its unique chrome grille, heated and ventilated front seats, and 20-inch aluminum wheels, as well as the latest off-roader-spec AT4 model, which gets 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, a locking rear differential, and off-road-ready suspension.
The organization also praises the 2021 GMC Canyon for its “respectable” fuel economy, in particular the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ and eight-speed automatic transmission combo, which achieved 21.6 mpg with 75 percent highway driving in Denali Crew Cab trim during Consumer Guide internal testing.
“The GMC Canyon faces strong competition from class rivals, but continues to achieve Best Buy status because of its broad model lineup, available diesel engine, and the availability of a full-time 4WD system,” Consumer Guide Automotive states. “Pricing on top-line Canyon models reaches into the territory of full-size trucks that offer more passenger space and cargo-hauling capacity. However, for shoppers who need a truck that’s more economical and easier to maneuver, the Canyon is a great choice.”
Stay tuned, as we’ll cover other Best Buy GM products in the near future. In the meantime, subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Canyon news, GMC news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Hilarious. One outfit says “Best Buy Award”. Another outfit says “Least Reliable Vehicle”. Maybe the two entities should compare notes and try to get to the truth.
Was just going to post the exact same thing!
Ah good old Consumer Guide Auto series which for years was a magazine that pumped out the new cars for the new model year followed by a road test issue and sometimes a comparison volume. I so miss that because going online staring at a tiny screen is not as cool as having the magazine at your fingertips in large bold type articles that is always available. I have issues dating back to the 70’s and they are a hoot to read with one hilarious example given to a full size sedan describing it’s quiet ride as “the only sound you hear driving down the road is your wallet shrinking” and many other funny quotes.
Its also comical to see how this outfit dramatically varies in recommendations compared to flawed CR which IP never took seriously.
Reviews are generally opinions and everyone has their own.
The bottom line to these is to generate money. Some do it with advertising. Some do it on controversy. Some with entertainment.
The bottom line of the magazines were to sell magazines or increase web sites traffic.
Trucks reviews are a mixed bag too as some are done by truck people others by car people both with a distinct view.
Then you mix in the mid size trucks that generally is a difficult segment to build. Many people want all the goodies while some want the old $9,999 S10 special.
Then there are limits to what people will pay as buyers drop off after $40k many not just looking at size will up grade to a full size past that price point.
All these trucks are not all they could be and more are they going to get cheaper.
GM has a solid truck that even after these years is still the best handling, riding, stopping truck in class. The three areas that matter most. Boxed frame 4 piston brakes, solid suspension. The rest are small details and personal preference.
Many in class also have major flaws. The seating position and rear drums on a Taco. They also use a u channel frame yet. The Ranger rear seat will not fold flat. The interior is no better than GM at a generally higher price.. Jeep well it is a Jeep for better or worse. It also is not cheap and it has a long wheel base that high sides. Also the interior still has open steel showing.
The Ridgeline is it a truck or a SUV with a Bed. Not cheap lacks towing and payload.
The fact is there are no perfect models out there and may never be so this argument will continue.
So you take all the reviews and go drive them make your own choice. As for the MFGs. Take the good reviews dis the bad and move in.
I read the truck and 4×4 reviews which includes wheels, tires, engine components, drive line, etc etc… I picked a top CR choice once and regretted it in 6 months. That was 15 years ago and realized “IMO” they were librarian check out types and never looked back.
Considering that the Colorado is about $1,000 cheaper, yet virtually the same truck, it should have won the award for best value
But again what is best value for them?
Lower price or slightly more content?
It is glass half full half empty kind of a deal.
The best way to buy anything is read and educate yourself on a vehicle. Know it inside and out before you buy. Too many just look and buy. Many more never even drive before they buy.
In the end the only opinion that matters is yours. You are paying for it so you are the one who needs to be pleased. Matters little what any publication, survey or web person thinks in the end.
It scares me how much money people spend on a vehicle anymore and they mostly buy on emotion and impulse.
8 speed tranny!!:(
Been in shop 3 times, two tranny flushes, synthetic fluid, AND a t.converter change!
Still messed up!
Never again!!
GM+8 speed turn around and do not walk but run like your at a ‘peacefull protest’ and you hear pop pop pop
I have a 2017 Canyon, CC, 4×4 Long bed, with the 2.8L diesel. I neither needed nor wanted a 1/2T truck as my daily commuter and eventual tow vehicle. Ride quality is comfortable but still quasi-stiff typical in trucks. Fuel economy is superb. I’ve achieved 31 mpg average in a single tank of highway driving but consistently average 29+ on the highway. City is typically 23. The diesel comes with the 6 speed automatic and no issues since new. I know the article is rating the 2021 model but nearly four years later I still think my truck is a great vehicle.
As far as ride quality goes, I miss my Sonoma extended cab with ZQ8 suspension. The old 4.3 wasn’t great on city mileage but everything else about it as great, especially the size.
I still own a 2002 S10 extended cab with the 4.3 that I purchased used nine years ago. Definitely softer ride than my Canyon, and size difference is huge. 🙂 I replaced the spider fuel injector and fuel pump. A solid little truck.
should be egg on consumer reports face, but no , that pro-import anti-American bunch will still do their best to destroy the American auto industry, I’m sure they voted for hair plugs biden who is filling his cabinet with miscreants and radicals, another barack millhouse benito obama anti-industry administration
That escalated quickly
I was a truck lover for 37 years. GM products all the way. 2015 tried the suv market for 5 years, gave all of that up and bought a new GMC reg cab, full box size, V6 engine, love driving it arround town regardless of what kind of gas mileage. I know that I have got a good vehicle.
I don’t know about there cars. But there trucks are junk. A mechanics $$$ dream.
Come on guys! If you have never been in one, don’t criticize it. Ever wonder why their are so many manufacturers making trucks, cause each to his own to choose. I’ve owned GM for the past 45 years and my 2019 GMC Canyon Denali is Like a Rock.
Not sure what to believe here. Consumer reports crapped all over the canyon and Colorado yet this article loves them. I had a 16 canyon for 2 years and had zero issues with it. Better fit and finish than the other models I looked at at feature rich. Only thing I’d say was odd was their choice of gears. It always felt like it should have had one more gear and was confused about up and down shifting in the 40mph range.
I don’t own a new Colorado/Canyon but I do own an 09 v8 Colorado 4×4 with over 113k with a 4L60e and a 19 Traverse 9 speed with 29,8k, CR didn’t ask me to rate my stuff…oh…
Good Morning everybody ! can anyone suggest where I can purchase Crush CBD?

Does anyone know what happened to Dimepiece LA celebrity streetwear brand? I seem to be unable to proceed to the checkout on Dimepiecela site. I’ve read in Marie Claire that the brand was acquired by a UK-based hedge fund in excess of $50 million. I have just bought the Dimepiece Athletic Women’s Club Hoodie from Ebay and totally love it xox
