2021 Buick Envision Avenir: Real-World Photo Gallery

The 2021 Buick Envision ushers in a fresh second-generation for the nameplate, offering a sleek new look, cutting-edge technology, and a fuel-efficient powertrain. Now, we’re getting a look at the new range-topping 2021 Buick Envision Avenir in the following GM Authority Real-World Photo Gallery.

The latest 2021 model year marks the first time Buick’s popular Avenir trim has been offered on the Envision, and to help it stand out from the rest of the lineup, the 2021 Buick Envision Avenir features a number of unique exterior styling elements. We initially got a look at the new Envision Avenir in June with the model’s debut in China. Now, we get to see how it looks out on the road.

In front, the 2021 Buick Envision Avenir features a new grille insert, which presents in a diamond-pattern mesh, unlike the horizontal slats of the standard grille design.

The new grille plays well with the crossover’s bright accent work, while an Avenir badge is placed on the door just behind the front wheels. The wheels also utilize a classy split-spoke design, which is visually connected by a prominent, polished lower trim line. The wheel well trim is body-colored.

The 2021 Buick Envision Avenir’s rear end finishes things off with clear tail lights, as compared to the red lenses equipped on non-Avenir trims. Lower in the bumper, we find the new Envision’s faux dual-exhaust treatment.

As GM Authority covered recently, the first 2021 Buick Envision models are now arriving at ports, which means the second-gen crossover will soon land at U.S. dealers.

The latest Buick Envision is based on the same variant of the E2 platform as the Cadillac XT4, with motivation sourced from the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gas engine. Output is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which is routed through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Both FWD and AWD are offered, with the 2021 Buick Envision Avenir exclusively offered with an advanced twin-clutch AWD system. Production takes place at SAIC-GM Jinqiao plant in Shanghai, China.

  1. It looks nice. The darker color goes well with the shiny chrome accents and wheels.

  2. Looks good ,but no china buicks for me, a long time buick owner.

    1. It’s about scale. Envision would not be sold in tg he US if this required two factories. Buick wo ui led get the axle in favor of more Hummer.

  3. Much better vehicle design than the first-gen! The Buick design language comes through and it looks great!

  4. Great looking suv with one dog of an engine!

    1. So you have driven it? Tell us how it drove then…

That is far and away better than other similar sized CUV’s like the RAV4, CRV and such which all are around 180+ hp so this thing should move pretty well and the torque should be great down low. Not sure what you are talking about but it isn’t this vehicle and engine.

      1. i thought the envision was premium? why are you comparing it to hondas and toyotas?

and since the base envision costs about $7K more than either one of them, i’d extpect it to have a bigger engine.

        1. Buick, Avenir especially, is premium. After bankruptcy Buick was called “personal luxury” by GM so not to cross paths with Cadillac. Insignia was supposed to be a Saturn and far cheaper pre Chapter 11.
Buick didn’t share a price point with Pontiac or Saturn and is a few clicks about Chevrolet.
Buick being lumped with Honda is probably 8ntended to aid Cadillac but it harms Buick & Chevrolet.
Mercury, Old-style middle brands as a market space (not a price) are alive globally but not in the US. GM had better make an effort to compare Buick to Lincoln, Acura, Audi and Lexus in adverts.
Buick and GMC, as is, make it difficult for Chevrolet to sell expensive trims as Ford does. This is silly seeing as Buick sells unique designs that look and have features nothing like Chevrolet.

      2. No I have not driven it but have driven the similar sized 2018 Equinox Premier with the more powerful 2.0 litre, and it is just adequate. The rationale for the current 2.0 was refinement. Sadly every road test I
have read seems to have a comment regarding how coarse and unrefined it sounds. With that being said the difference in performance between the two 2.0 fours was 1 second in a Motor Trend test in a CT6. The LSY was one second slower to 60 and 1 second slower through the 1/4 mile.

Sorry but if it is not refined, is slower, why bother! And as Steve said, why are you comparing an Envision to a RAV4 and CRV?

  6. This is far and away the best looking Buick SUV since the original Enclave hit the market. If this doesn’t help elevate Buick I’m not sure where they go from here.

  7. Better looking than Cadillacs SUVS – which is a shame.

    1. If Cadillac is soon to be an EV brand than Buick needs Alpha, Omega and o tu her premium bones.
Now is the time for a GNX capable of sharing under the skin bits with the next gen Camaro creating scale. Let these new Buick Avenir vehicles be benchmarked against either Lexus or Audi with magnetic ride control & handling like CT6.
These platforms are paid for so price can undercut rivals if necessary but, ideally, Buivk must be repositioned as true luxury while, in the US, sister brand GMC is super premium selling Hummer and Yukon Delani.

But I would never own a Chinese-built Buick. That whole country can piss right off.

  10. Nice vehicle. Shame it’s
made in China. Given what the CCP has done to the world , GM should build in US or at least North America with Canada first Iine. You screwed Americans over with Blazer production in Mexico . Don’t by this vehicle . Plus top Blazer price is about 10 grand to high

    Reply
    1. Do you understand why GM builds certain vehicles in mexico? Its because some of them are shipped to other countries besides the US and in order to not get taxed to death they need to be built in Mexico. Its all about economics. I would like to seem them built here too but i understand from a profit stand point you have to buidl them where you can make the most money if shipping them to other countries. The US needs better Trade agreements with other countries so American goods aren’t taxed to death when they come from the US.

  12. Nice car. But I’m so disenchanted with China’s government policies. I ‘m from Canada, and the incarceration of the two Michaels is so very wrong. I simply cannot support the regime.
GM has built a very fine looking vehicle; too bad it’s in China.

        1. MrR: What about all the rest of the stuff? Like the computer or phone you are probably typing on? Oh, don’t get me wrong. I would love to only buy American brands made in America. But globalization started many years ago and is much more integrated into our lives than any of us probably even think. So it’s not just Nike, Apple. It’s your TV. Your android phones. Your computers. Your clothing. Many parts on your car/truck maybe? I don’t know for sure, but it’s all integrated and global.

          Reply
          1. @Dan Berning exactly. Businesses need to make a profit, if they don’t they go bankrupt and they close doors. Car companies only make about 10% profit on each car, or less. So they have to manufacture overseas to keep the prices down. I said Nike and Apple because they’re the most popular brands and known for quality, but it goes way deeper than that. From your bath towel, to your socks, to your computer, shoes, TV, I bet you 90% of everything you own was made in China was has parts in it that was made in China. If Apple IPhones are considered the highest quality smart phones and Nikes are considered the highest quality sportswear, then China has nothing to do with the low quality, you gotta blame the business owner.

  18. People always have issues about China manufacturing quality. But people still shop at Walmart, why? Because they wanna save a few dollars. I never hear people complain about the quality of their Nike products or Apple products, but guess what that’s all from China too. People need to stop being so immature and understand that the reason things are made in China is because it’s cheaper to do so. That $1200 IPhone you own would cost $3000 if it was built in North America. The China dollar is worth 5 times less than Canadian dollar. For example an engineer in Canada makes $80,000 a year, an engineer in China would make $16,000 a year. That’s why your Nikes and IPhones and Walmart products are affordable. If you want to stop using China for manufacturing, everything you buy will cost 3 times more than they do now. Companies need to make a profit, if they don’t they close doors.

    1. It’s like that because of greedy American companies who want to milk dollars w/o paying taxes on anything and have classes of “have and have-not”. Silicon Valley companies use to make everything in….Silicon Valley, same as older electronic companies like TX Instruments, NYC clothing industry use to make everything in-house, your “$3000 I Phone” would still be $1000 if Apple hadn’t shipped manufacturing overseas.

Was overseas operations of US companies abroad?, yes but for those regional markets. Don’t tell us that we need Chinese cheap garbage because some coked-up CEO want to save money on his soon to be BK company .

  20. I thought the Encore GX and Envision were built in South Korea. I knew the Encore and top dollar Cadillac were built in China. Look at the content stickers. Cheaper vehicles have higher USA and Mexico content.

  21. There are no Cadillacs sold in the US being assembled in China. I wonder how many of the whiners saying they would’nt buy a Buick made in China are boycotting everything made in China like 75% of the stuff at Home Depot and Lowe’s? Apple and every other I phone? LG and Samsung appliances in favor of Whirlpool etc? The most American cars built are Traverse, Acadia, and Enclave, is anybody buying them for that reason? I doubt it.

    Reply
    1. Exactly. If you wanna boycott made in China products, do that for EVERYTHING. We live in a global economy thats life. You cant blame China for bad quality, when the HIGHEST quality smartphone, iPhone, comes from China. You have to hold the COMPANY accountable for their standards. If GM decides to have manufacturing done in China, as long as GM keeps a standard of quality, I’m ok with it.

        Reply
    2. yea I agree, this is a right step in the right direction. Looks great from afar, but when you look up close, those fake vent looking things under the headlights need to be removed. I really really really dislike nonfunctional vents, I think its the worst trend to ever happen to modern cars.
