Exclusively photographed on North American roads for the first time by GM Authority a few days ago, the Tri-Shield brand’s new model arrives in North America from GM China (SAIC)’s Jinqiao plant in Shanghai. The all-new Envision was launched in China in July as the Envision S, since the Envision name continues be used for the first-generation Envision, which is still on sale there.

Based on the GM E2 platform, the 2021 Buick Envision is closely related to the sixth-generation Buick Regal (still sold in China in sedan form), the ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu, the Holden Commodore NG and the second-generation Opel Insignia, which is marketed in the U.K. as the Vauxhall Insignia. The Envision is also a cousin of the third-generation Buick LaCrosse, which rides on the long-wheelbase version of the E2 platform.

The 2021 Buick Envision is available in four trim levels – Envision, Preferred, Essence and the range-topping Avenir. The only engine offered is the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline unit which produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is mated exclusively to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. All versions are available with FWD, and AWD is offered as an option on all but the base model.

  1. What they aren’t telling you is that the accessories, like the car, are also made in China and come with a lead paint finish and an asbestos lining.

    1. YOU ARE LOST IN A BYGONE CENTURY member12.

  2. Can anyone confirm there’s lead and asbestos in the Envision?

  3. Screw China and screw a Chinese made Buick

    1. Talk about screws, these are screwed together better than some US built products.

  5. GM chooses high profits on high volume sales that is why these are made in China. Cheap labor pennies on the dollar. The same reason that electronic are all made in China. All computer and telephone manufactures build in China. Apple, Microsoft, HP, Samsung, etc.
They would rather have an 80% profit on these then a 20% profit. It’s all about the money. It has nothing to do what so ever about Lead Paint nobody use that the are still base coat clear coat and are certified by the EPa. Also saying asbestos is used is also delusional. It’s not used in any vehicle imported into the USA. Lawyers would be all over GM’s ass big time. It’s all about profit and who GM does or doesn’t share those profits with. They choose to take all that huge profit and thumb there collective noses at the UAW.
No union no Union wages. China, slave labor 80% profit. That is why Americans buy and build in China. So when you are no longer working and can’t afford anything blame the Manufactures and the Republicans who started this whole thing under Richard Nixon.

  7. This gets tiring when all some people can say about the Buick Envision is that’s it’s made in China and that you won’t be buying one. That point has been made EVERY time a story about the Envision appears.

  8. People are so ticked this is made in China, yet its better quality than the stuff made here by “union” labor. Let’s stand up for the union who support keeping lazy workers who don’t value their jobs employed… look at all the GM vehicles who have a recall on the 9 speed trans, notice the Envision is not one of them?

    1. Sounds like someone is not happy with their dead end job. You may want to dig a bit deeper to see where the nine speeds are being produced. The engineering or lack of that is involved or the material spec.

  9. “Made in China” is not the barrier for me…it’s the BORING exterior color selections. At least they could offer White Frost Tri-coat as offered on every other Buick model, instead of Summit White, also known as “1995 Refrigerator on Wheels.” And how about a nice Champagne Gold in place of Burnished Bronze Metallic, which is just hideous?

    1. I totally agree concerning the exterior colors of the Envision. A light gold would be very appropriate for the style of this car. It would definitely be a winner for sales, I think.
