2020 Chevy Low Cab Forward Recalled Over Chafing Coolant Hose

The 2020 Chevy Low Cab Forward has been recalled over an issue related to the radiator coolant return hose.

The problem: on certain Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks, the chassis harness and the coolant return hose that runs from the radiator to the coolant reservoir may chafe, which can cause wear in the harness and/or hose. This can wear a hole in the hose and potentially cause the engine coolant to leak and cause damage to the harness with the potential for it to lead to a short circuit.

The hazards: leaking engine coolant and/or a damaged wiring harness may result in a no-start condition, an engine stall or an electrical short. These scenarios can increase the risk of a crash or a fire in affected vehicles.

The fix: GM did not say what repairs specifically will be performed to remedy this issue, though it can be assumed that dealers will replace any damaged chassis harnesses and/or coolant return hoses and/or adjust the components’ mounting positions so they no longer chafe.

Affected vehicles:

• Chevy Low Cab Forward 4500 Crew Cab (with 6.6L L8T V8 gas
• 2020 Isuzu NPR-HD Crew Cab (with 6.6L L8T V8 gas engine)

Affected components: chassis harness, coolant return hose.

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 46 Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks are involved in this recall campaign.

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer.
