XL Fleet has announced new vehicle electrification solutions for various GM commercial vehicles, including Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD. The new XLP plug-in hybrid electric drive technology will be offered on select configurations of the Silverado HD and Sierra HD pickups, including both 2500 and 3500 models. The upfits will also be offered on Chevrolet and GMC 3500 chassis cab models.
“GM Fleet vehicles are built to meet the rigorous performance requirements of today’s most demanding applications,” said Manager of Commercial & Specialty Vehicles, GM Fleet, Jim Connelly. “Adding XL’s plug-in hybrid electric upfit technology to these tried-and-true GM Fleet vehicles can provide a tested and flexible option for customers looking to electrify their work truck applications immediately.”
The new XL Fleet system for Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD models is designed to drastically improve fuel economy ratings, with 50 percent higher mpg overall. The system will also cut CO2 emissions by roughly a third compared to a standard gasoline-only vehicle.
“The launch of our plug-in hybrid electric upfit technology for the GM family of high-performance fleet vehicles represents an exciting expansion of our work with GM Fleet as well as our growing line of plug-in hybrid electric solutions,” said Chief Executive Officer of XL Fleet, Dimitri Kazarinoff. “This new platform incorporates XL’s second-generation plug-in hybrid electric drive technology, providing higher kilowatt-hours with a more scalable design that can be expanded onto a much broader array of vehicles and applications.”
The new XL Fleet Plug-In Hybrid system for Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD models is expected to start shipping in early 2021, with the upfit for 2500HD and 3500HD pickups arriving in Q1 of 2021. Systems designed for Chevrolet and GMC 3500 chassis cabs will arrive in Q2 of 2021.

Why doesn’t GM buy this company and utilize them. Have base level trucks with this tech, and sell upper model trims with Ultim battery tech
Same reason the HD trucks don’t have AFM, same ol 6 speed, no Ford turbos, no mild hybrid like the 2015 Silverado eboost package. When it comes to job performance, companies rather burn more fuel than have a truck down while they loose 1200$ an hour. Keep it simple stupid principle is strong here.
Rick Wagoner has been a Board Director and advisor for XLFleet since startup a decade ago. Good Ole boy network still exists.
Is it only with the gasoline engine or with the Duramax Diesel too?
Perfect. Then nobody will be able to fix it when it breaks. Theres enough economy bs. In them already. Its unreliable especially in ny where those stupid connnectors and wheel speed sensors and every other sensor rots right out. Your gonna make junk out of these vehicles. Thats all
I’m having issue with my GMC Sierra pickup hybrid 2005 power steering pump. How could you be of help. Thanks
