Nathan Apodaca, also known as a @420doggface208 on TikTok, has traded in his gifted Nissan Frontier Pro-4X pickup truck for something much swankier: a new Chevy Silverado.
Apodaca went viral this year after he filmed himself riding a skateboard away from his broken-down truck while lip-syncing Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and drinking from an Ocean Spray Cranberry juice bottle. It was a bit of a strange piece of content to go viral, in our opinion, but it seems something about Apodaca’s carefree, happy nature in the face of a fairly major problem drew people to the video.
Ocean Spray later decided to capitalize on the publicity surrounding Apodaca’s viral video and gifted him a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X to replace the broken-down truck that sparked the viral sensation. However, it seems he decided he wanted something a bit bigger than the Frontier, as he recently posted a video to his TikTok account indicating that he swapped his gifted Nissan for a Chevy Silverado Z71.
It’s hard to blame Apodaca for wanting to trade his Nissan in for something a bit more upscale. Not only is the Silverado bigger than the Frontier, it’s also a more up-to-date vehicle. This current-generation Frontier has actually been on sale in the U.S. in its current form since 2004, whereas the Silverado was redesigned for the 2019 model year.
The Frontier that Ocean Spray gifted Apodaca was dark red – reminiscent of the color of the cranberry juice that helped give him the six million followers he enjoys on TikTok today. He decided to stick with this theme for his Chevy Silverado Z71, as he elected for a Cajun Red Tintcoat painted Chevy Silverado. His Frontier may be history, but its spirit sort of lives on in his similarly-colored Chevy.

LOL. Good for him! So I was curious as to where Ocean Spray is based and I Googled it. According to Google, it’s based out of Hanson, MA. Last time I checked, that’s in the USA. So why exactly wouldn’t Ocean Spray gift him a truck that is American? Probably some import loving big shot at Ocean Spray that thinks American vehicles are not “good”. So personally I’m glad this guy traded his Nissan in on the Chevrolet.
Ocean spray actually didn’t gift him the truck. A local Nissan dealer capitalized on the publicity and gifted it to him, with the blessing of Ocean Spray. So if anything, he didn’t piss off ocean spray, just the nissan dealer in his town. Ocean Spray sponsors him, and gave him a liftetime supply of Cranberry Cocktail.
To be fair, the Frontier is made in Mississippi… Some of GM products are made in Mexico, my truck included…
To me it does not matter who puts together a product. Putting together a product following the engineering blu-prints from another country makes it foreign. It is a Japanese car engineered by a Japanese company. Americans in those North American plants are following directions. Anyone can follow directions.
So…..Ford, Chevy and Dodge vehicles that are made in Mexico and Canada are more “American”? 🤔🤷
Engineered by Japanese, that’s why Japanese vehicles are better regardless of where they are assembled and your outsourced to China American “designed” vehicle is a heap of crap.
Lee: Are you just trying to get attention here or are you always this stupid?
Japanese brands engineer cheap into their vehicles. I’ve sold Honda for 12 years. Never again and never will I buy one. I’ve been around way too many Toyota’s (including my ex-wife’s that was always costing us money). I’ve been with a Volvo and Mazda store now for nearly 6 years. Mazda? No thanks. The only reason I work here is because I have a great boss and an easy schedule, plus it’s close to where I live.
FACT CHECK Dan Berning, the Nissan Frontier is assembled in Canton, Mississippi. The last time I looked that’s in the good ole USA.
To Chris, Ednersum and Mick 1: Please read my post more carefully. Nowhere did I talk about where a vehicle is “assembled”. I talk about American vehicles, as in if the company is American or other. Last time I checked, Nissan is very Japanese. Chevrolet is very American. I’ve had this conversation too many times with people who can’t seem to understand the simple facts behind all this. Follow the money. I don’t care if a Nissan truck is assembled in Mississippi. Where do the profits go? Where is the R & D done? Where are the majority of engineers? I could go on, but it’s really about where the company is really located and where the profits go after a sale.
In Chevy’s case, the profits go to pensioners and Unions.
You think they do R&D, Design, etc in America? Hell no, they outsource that to China.
Wrong. The overwhelming majority of GM R&D, engineering, and design operations takes place in the U.S.
Thanks Alex. Lee apparently has a problem with American brands and his/her mis-information is sad.
Maybe because Chevy makes garbage unreliable vehicles? Not exactly something you want when you literally have no money and need to skateboard everywhere.
Besides, Nissan trucks are made from more American parts than your Chevy with all mexican parts.
It was founded in Hanson, MA. It’s headquartered in Middleborough, MA. Lived there for 7 years, drove past the place everyday.
That’s……..nice……….I guess.
Wow good for him I guess… sounds like he really didn’t need help getting a truck if he traded in a frontier for a Silverado…. not like he improved in the looks department
Frankly, who cares about a “TikTok star”? Isn’t that an oxymoron – using “TikTok” and “star” together?
cwoboso4, Hotdoggedly, you don’t understand the new media. People make money with this. When have you received a free car. And what do you know about oxy and moron. Welcome to 2020.
Who cares about TikTok?
I agree with you man. I do not understand people in my generations obsession with social media. Even worse is people listen and follow these so called “influencers.”
What I don’t understand is the idiots that give the ones making the stupid videos free money.
Ermm I dunno… As much as I LOVE the current Silverado, I dont think I would have traded in a gifted vehicle like that. Still may he enjoy his new Silverado!
Was a bonehead move on his part. It may come back to slap him in the head!
He should of not advertised the trade! DUMB!!!!!
Agreed.
Do not blame him for trading to a Chevy.
But….he should of kept the deal to himself. Ocean Spray PR people probably see that as a slap in the face.
This could come back to bite him in the ass!
So the guy who became TikTok famous because he was too broke to have a vehicle and had to skateboard everywhere was given a free Nissan Frontier (THE most reliable truck made) by Ocean spray and traded it for the least reliable vehicle made, a Chevy Silverado.
This idiot is just full of making great life decisions. He’ll be back to having to skateboard everywhere again when his piece of shit Chevy breaks down. 🤣🤣
Can’t fix low IQ.
Hahaha. Quote from Lee: “Can’t fix low IQ.”
I’m sorry for your situation there Lee.
Transferred from a proven, reliable, vehicle to the worst rated vehicle, reliability wise, on Consumer Reports. Moron.
I would.
I must be getting old because i just don’t give a S–T about TIKTOK.
If it was a gift without any contracts then the guy is free do to with it as he pleases. It may fly in the face of the intent of the gesture but it is what it is. Still a poor choice to make from both a moral and product quality stance. Nissan Frontier/Navarra’s have a documented proven reliable life span even if a dated platform vs Pretty much anything Chevy.
To Dan Bernings point, Nissan North America is a very “American” company. You seem to lack comprehension of Corporate Entity and Finance structures so perhaps you need to follow your own advice and follow the money. Nissan NA very much pays US taxes, employs US based engineers, sales people, assemblers and management. This is how global conglomerate organizations operate in the 21st Century to include foreign investors extensions of US based entities like Ford, Chevrolet, etc. Besides all of that if you are so narrow minded and confused that you choose misplaced Nationalism over quality product purchase then enjoy your life of planned obsolescence and poor product life. Me? I’ll vote with my dollar and purchase the product most inline with my quality and performance requirements vs some unqualified blind allegiance to a product that doesn’t cate who I am because ‘MURICA!!!!
Whatever helps you sleep at night Lou. Everything you said about Nissan can also be said about GM, Ford, etc. The number of people employed by GM far exceeds that of Nissan. And if you are good with a product that dates back to the late 70’s or early 80’s, god bless you. But just like the garbage from Toyota, when you keep the same horse and just hang a new saddle on it every few years, that old horse does the job well as it should. Confused I am not. Truthful I am. My sales/service experience (and personal experiences) over the past 37 years of driving/owning/selling shows me daily what most car/truck buyers will never see. If you feel Nissan is a high quality brand, then that is very sad. If you are just basing your comment on one specific truck (Frontier), then your comment is more limited in scope than I thought.
My 2019 Silverado is a piece of crap!
