The True Cost Of Super Cruise On The 2021 Cadillac CT5

Early next year, GM will offer the Super Cruise driver assistance feature on certain 2021 Cadillac CT5 models. Cadillac has officially priced Super Cruise at $2,500 on the CT5, but as interested customers will soon find, that is only a small part of the true cost.

Not all CT5 models will qualify for Super Cruise, at least at first. In fact, the system is being offered only on two configurations – Premium Luxury 550T (the one with the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 LGY engine) and the CT5-V. Furthermore, those interested in the Premium Luxury model will have to spring for the $2,000 all-wheel drive system, but that requirement is not present for the CT5-V, which can be had with Super Cruise in either RWD or AWD.

Now for the actual figures: Super Cruise is listed as a $2,500 option on the 2021 Cadillac CT5 online configurator, but the actual price change when opting for the feature is $8,740. Add in the costs of the V6 engine, AWD, and the various necessary packages, and the total price jumps to $58,470. That is the lowest possible price for a 2021 CT5 fitted with Super Cruise, but it’s still $16,680 more than the MSRP of a base Premium Luxury model. The other way to configure Super Cruise on the CT5 Premium Luxury is to choose the optional Platinum Package, in which case the price rises to $61,640, or $19,850 above MSRP of the base model.

In contrast to the CT5 Premium Luxury, Super Cruise for the 2021 CT5-V can be added to either the RWD or AWD models. Even so, both will require either the Premium Package or the significantly more expensive Platinum Package, which includes everything in Premium as well as many other options. A RWD CT5-V with the Premium Package costs $62,620, or $13,830 above base MSRP. Opting for the Platinum Package increases the price by $16,530 vs. base to $65,320. AWD versions of the CT5-V with Super Cruise are $2000 more expensive at $64,120 with the Premium Package and $66,820 with the Platinum Package, or $15,830 and $18,530 above base MSRP, respectively.

Additionally, the Super Cruise package comes with a three-year subscription, after which Cadillac owners must sign up for an OnStar service plan to continue using the drive assist system.

Having first launched on the 2018 CT6, Super Cruise is a semi-autonomous system which allows for hands-free driving on over 200,000 miles of compatible highways in the U.S. and Canada. It’s very much worth noting that Super Cruise requires the driver to pay attention to the road ahead, and is therefore not a completely autonomous system. Super Cruise. The system will soon be offered on the 2021 Escalade.

  1. Don’t forget the monthly fee after 3 years.

    1. Why would I care when my 3 year lease is up?

      1. Because it is all not about you! There are folks that may not lease that will keep the vehicle beyond three years!

  2. The pricing makes Tesla look benevolent.

  3. One can configure a CT5 V with all the packages except Super Cruise. Then when Super Cruise is added the price goes up by $2500. So, Super Cruise is a $2500 option.
Personally I would want all of the other packages anyway.
I have configured the CT5 V that I want on line at cadillac.com and then called my dealership to ask if I could in fact order with Super Cruise. And, I asked approximately when my ordered car would come in. I am ready to buy.
The salesman did not know Super Cruise was on the website for configuration and did not know the answers to any of my questions. He said he would call back.
It has been 3 days since I spoke with him.
Automotive reviewers give high praise to Super Cruise and how it is better than Tesla’s Auto Pilot. But, the marketing of Super Cruise by Cadillac seems very lacking. The dealers either can’t or are not willing to give answers regarding Super Cruise availability. It feels like they may be doing so in order to sell vehicles in inventory that do not have Super Cruise.

    1. When I got a ct6 with supercruise in mid 2019, the dealership didn’t really know much about it. The fact is they have sold very few cars with it (10k or so) and the sales folks just don’t care about they low volume. Having said that, it’s worth it depending on where you live. In Massachusetts I use it on 90 and 93 and 95 all the time. Better driver than me.

  4. I’m going to say the fault is with GM/Cadillac.They are still not producing for sale Escalades with Super Cruise! This is after running advertisements featuring Super Cruise. I have had anEscalade on order for more than a month. Order was accepted but best information Sales manager can give me is possibly be built in January! Sounds like they may have a supplier issue

  5. Don’t get the super cruise, remember the Tesla’s that ran into tractor trailers? No way man,I only trust myself at the wheel. The option is way too expensive,I would get the engine upgrade over that garbage. Tech is over hyped and always underwhelming.

    1. The difference between Super Cruise and Autopilot is the Tesla system will operate even if the driver is asleep. Super Cruise continually monitors the driver and will sound an alert, vibrate the seat and disengage if it detects the driver isn’t paying attention. Mine does that for something as minor as my hand covering my mouth for more than ten seconds. I’ve driven my CT6 for two years with Super Cruise and it’s never come close to running into anything. Now, I didn’t totally understand there would be a monthly charge after the initial three years, but I suppose I should have paid more attention when signing the papers. Assuming I still have the car, which I love, I don’t know that I’d keep it active although Cadillac did recently add a “free” fourth year to the initial package.

  7. So instead of stating that super cruise only offered with high trim CT5s they wrote a word salad to imply that there’s attempted fraud by GM.
