General Motors reintroduced the Chevrolet Blazer nameplate as an all-new midsize crossover for the 2019 model year. So far, the new Blazer has posted impressive sales performance, especially the sporty Chevy Blazer RS trim, which is penetrating at 35 percent of the Blazer portfolio, GM Authority has learned.
“It just keeps exceeding expectations,” said Senior Marketing Director, Chevrolet SUVs, Brad Franz, in an interview with GM Authority executive editor, Alex Luft. “We have moved forecasts up, and it just keeps growing.”
This sales performance is doubly impressive when considering the price point for the Chevy Blazer RS. Starting at $41,295, the Chevy Blazer RS is the second-most expensive trim in the new Blazer lineup.
The revelation coincides with a strong Q3 sales performance for the new Chevy Blazer, with the crossover posting its best quarterly figures since launch with the latest Q3 2020 numbers. The figures also represent a 2.2-percent retail market share gain year-over-year in Q3, making the Chevy Blazer the second best-selling model in the Two-Row Midsize Mainstream Crossover segment, bested only by the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

As seen in the table above, Chevy Blazer sales surged 45.17 percent in Q3, with 29,486 units sold – a goof portion of which were Chevy Blazer RS models.
As GM Authority has covered previously, the Chevy Blazer crossover is heavily cross-shopped with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Edge, two stout rivals in the segment. Per the table above, the Jeep Grand Cherokee nabbed the top spot in the segment with 56,447 units sold, while the Ford Edge was fourth with 28,211 units sold.
What’s more, nearly half of all Chevy Blazer buyers are new to the Chevrolet brand, certifying the crossover’s broad appeal.
Outside, the Chevy Blazer rocks an aggressive and stylish design, while the cabin space comes standard with an eight-inch color touchscreen.
Chevy Blazer RS models stand out thanks to a unique grille with a black finish, as well as a black finish for the roof rails, window surrounds, badging, and nameplate. The RS also features body-colored door handles, and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gas engine as standard.

The car rags and even some people here were ragging on the Blazer when it was first introduced. I knew it would be a hit from first sight. Yes they could have used another name, but Blazer has worked out well. I bet GM is really making money off this CUV.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is Mopping Up Sales everything else is playing catch up.I still wouldn’t have use the Blazer name plate when you see what’s about to happen with the Ford Bronco, which was its cross town rival. My question is where are they selling so well l have only seen 2 on the road this year.
Don’t worry, every poser will get a Bucko (if it hits dealers w/o obnoxious mark-up) but people who don’t pretend to play Walking Dead survival games will continue to get their Blazer on demand.

The big idea that you are not getting here Roy is that Chevy went from zero sales to being the second best-selling product in the segment in a mere 15 months. Yes, that is quite literally the textbook definition of success Roy. Blazer can be #1 in the segment and you’ll still be trying to spin it as not being successful.
You can keep complaining about the Blazer name all you want but it obviously hasn’t prevented it from becoming a massive success. Also, the Blazer is not a Bronco competitor. Get it through your thick head dude.
Exactly my thoughts, lol it’s mopping up in sales to not even reaching half of G. cherokee sales number, 70K to 150K! Also it’s not even second fricking Edge and Santa Fe are right there.
The way I see this is the Blazer is leading in the fwd based CUV class.
The Jeep really is in a class of its own. Till the Bronco arrives in a 4 door.
The truth is GM is doing great with the Blazer. But they do lack a true RWD based SUV to compete with Jeep and Ford.
Let’s face it none of these models accept the Jeep is a true off road vehicle. So how could they even be compared? Yes they are similar in price but they are different animals.
I am an analyst at a research firm that specializes in consumer purchase behavior studies for large corporations. We recently conducted a thorough multi-year analysis of CUV/SUV buyers and their considerations (not for GM, but for a competitor). What we found does not support the claims you are making.
What we found is that Edge, Blazer and Grand Cherokee are EXACTLY in the same segment. They are indeed very similar “animals” with very similar customer demographics and purchase factors/considerations.
You mention “the truth” in your comment. Well, here’s the truth that’s supported by actual data: drivetrain is irrelevant to most customers. Most buyers of the vehicles in question do not know or care whether the drivetrain starts as FWD or RWD (most want AWD anyway, but many don’t want to pay for it). Bottom line: consumers simply do not know if its RWD or FWD, so it’s very rarely a consideration.
Generally speaking here are the top 5 things buyers care about:
1. SUV (SUV or CUV, technically speaking) and not a car/sedan. Check for both Blazer and GC.
2. Attractive looks. Check for both Blazer and GC.
3. Decent interior/space. These are within inches of each other. Check for both.
4. Price. These are priced very similarly.
5. Tech. Both have decent levels of tech, with the Blazer being more intuitive and more modern due to the GC’s age.
6. Fuel economy (tied for 5th). Both Blazer and GC are similar here.
These 5 (6) items represent 85% of the purchase consideration and factors. We didn’t even see drivetrain orientation pop in the top 30 items. We also looked at driving/handling characteristics that could be influenced by the drivetrain orientation. It similarly was a non-starter. So RWD or FWD is irrelevant for most.
Now, there is an extremely small subset (around 8%) that buys the Jeep for actual off-roading (6%) or high performance driving (2%). The fact of the matter is that the overwhelming majority of Grand Cherokee buyers never take theirs off the pavement.
C8.R – you say that the Jeep is a true off-road vehicle. Are you nuts? Grand Cherokee is no more of a true off-road vehicle than an Acadia or blazer. We are not talking about the wrangler here.
No but a RWD based vehicle is more able than the FWD based models.
It is a very cold day in hell I take my Acadia off road.
Now do not mistake my comment to claim the Jeep as a Hummer replacment but it does have a more traditional 4×4 set up and more ground clearance.
It is no Baja ready or a rock climber but could do a better job on dirt roads in the woods and mountains.
My air dam on my Denali may not survive a dirt road let alone the drain plug on the transaxle in the bottom with no protection.

The Jeep is not a Rock Climber and I never claimed it one. But it would fair a bit better off on dirt tails or roads. Most of the CUV models here would have damage to the nose.
Also the traditional RWD based 4×4 is more able than these FWD based models.
What has happened to the market today is people want the utility of a Mini Van. But they want the looks of something better than a Mini Van.
Today owners don’t off road as much but they want the look. This is why many of these models are SUV like in looks.
They like to sit higher too as it was easier to see till every car was a CUV.
I agree with your points. That is just common sense. But with the Jeep they still see it as a more traditional SUV. No they don’t go off road but they like the idea they could to a degree the other models can’t.
People buy Corvettes but few ever test the limits or touch the ability of the performance. Many buy guns but never shoot the,. These are things surveys miss as people will not admit this.
Many of the CUV FWD based models are just tall cars with more utility.
We saw this with the HHR. It was a tall CUV. But under the skin it was a Cobalt. If GM had made a Cobalt wagon it would have sold in very low numbers. But the HHR as a Tall CUV sold in greater numbers and made a lot of money. It has been 8 years since they were sold and it is hard to go any place and not see one on the road.
We are seeing the decline of the sedan as they lost their utility and people want a larger vehicle. Most of today’s CUV models can haul and do what a sedan 50 years ago could do. Thing today like even buying a TV is difficult with a sedan.
I work in the performance aftermarket. I see the difference in the buyers. People who buy Blazers and such just drive them. People who buy the Jeep models modify. Like H2 Hummers they many modify but they don’t go off road.
So while I agree with your findings there is still more yo this than just the points you have. Much of what I see are things people don’t want to admit. It is the look and image they want not a muddy trail in some cases. Others like me buy the wife the Acadia because that is what she wanted and I don’t even want to pretend it is an off road vehicle.
The bottom line is the CUV group is not just a couple of simple demographics. It is much more diverse under the surface.
Chevrolet needs a SUV based on the Colorado chassis.

You clearly haven’t driven the RS. WAY more sporty than it has any right to be, and the chassis tuning is brilliant. Even more fun then some RWD competitors.
Many underestimate the GM CUV models
The suspension these have are very well tuned for the roads.
My Denali has the same set up as the Blazer but with a electronics shock set up. It drives more like a touring sedan than a mini van.
It drives much like my SSEI but better with AWD. Sport mode really changes the feel of the vehicle and how it drives.
Note though in FWD mode it sucks as it understeer and struggles for grip.

You complain about Mexico. Well Ford, FCA, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai/KIA, VW, Audi, Mercedes & BMW all build vehicles in Mexico. GM has to remain competitive.

You don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Some auto production has shifted to Mexico, but it looks like we are still #1 in making douche bags.
What many leave out on the plants in Mexico is this.
The plants on the boarder are there for a reason. These jobs keep more people in country. They also help keep some peace on the boarder.
While Mexico is corrupt it would be much worse if the poverty there turned the country into a Venezuela on our southern boarder.
While our government says little about it we do try to keep Mexico more stable and not see a revolution to a type goverment that would partner with counties like Cuba and Iran.
These is a lot more political strategy here than just a few plants.
Many think welfare is to help people that are down. The truth is it is to prop up people that could rebel against a sitting government. If they are unhappy they can rise up and then they force in socialism. That is how Russia, China, Cuba, NKorea and Venezuela got where they are now.

Great idea for a truck-based vehicle. Not happening on this glorified minivan.
I bought a 2020 Blazer Premier. I love the aggressive looks. It has good performance from the 3.6 liter V6. The interior / tech features are on par with other vehicles in it’s class. It also is the perfect size/ capabilities for my needs.
I own a 6th gen Camaro RS, and if I were buying an SUV, the Blazer RS would my only choice Black over black, like my Camaro.
