Rivian R1T And R1S Configurators Now Live On EV Brand’s Website

The Rivian R1T all-electric pickup and Rivian R1S all-electric SUV are now live on the automaker’s online configurator, giving interested buyers an opportunity to spec theirs to taste and place a reservation. The new R1T and R1S will be offered as direct rivals to the GMC Hummer EV pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV, respectively.

The Rivian R1T is listed on the automaker’s configurator in two trims, including the Explore Package, which starts at $67,500, and the Adventure Package, which starts at $75,000. Both trims come standard with a battery pack capable of delivering over 300 miles, while the Off-Road Package stands out for its reinforced underbody protection, powered tonneau cover, Gear Guard, upgraded audio, heated and ventilated seating, perforated vegan leather upholstery, Compass Yellow interior accents, ash wood interior, microfiber headliner, and Chilewich floor mats. By contrast, the Explore Package comes with a manual tonneau cover, standard surround audio, heated seats, and textile headliner and floor mats.

Options include new wheel designs and a “Camp Kitchen,” the latter of which adds an induction cooktop, sink, and a four-gallon water tank and pump for outdoor cooking.

Both Rivian R1T trims are also offered with an upgradeable Max Pack battery with over 400 miles of range for an extra $10,000.

Meanwhile, the Rivian R1S is also available in either the Adventure Package or the Explore Package trims, the former of which starts at $77,500, and the latter of which starts $70,000. Standard equipment for both trims is closely related to that of each corresponding Rivian R1T trim level.  A 300-mile battery pack is the only battery option offered on the SUV.

Deliveries for both the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S are expected to kick off in January of 2022. Customers placing their reservations now are expected to provide a $1,000 deposit.

Meanwhile, the first GMC Hummer EV pickup model out the gates will be the Launch Edition, which is priced at $112,595 and produces 1,000 horsepower with an estimated range of 350 miles. The Hummer EV Launch Edition will launch next year.

  1. Personally, I don’t care a jot for, or about trucks. But a handsome design, is a handsome design. I really like this.

    1. Totally understandable to not care for/about trucks. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

      However…

Trucks/SUVs is where the bucks are. If automakers can appeal to current truck buyers and or EV owners/prospects who have been waiting for an EV pickup, these things will keep the lights on and then some and allow for some great cash flow for more R&D for performance/niche EVs and other regular EV products. Hell the $$$ made on ICE trucks probably has a significant hand in the monies being pumped into EV programs at GM in particular.

  2. So with the $7500 tax credit, you can get a 400 mile range EV pickup for $70k?
    That’s not too bad.

  3. This green R1S suv looks pretty slick.

  4. As GM is learning “brand loyalty” matters less and less in the truck segment as Chevrolet falls behind Dodge. Future brands like Rivian pose a real threat unless GM ups their game and uses GMC differently not as “the owner/foreman’s brand” but as a unique truck experience as demonstrated by Hummer.

    1. I agree with you completely.
Except it’s been called Ram for ten years now.

Dodge is what the Camaro can’t seem to compete with.
