The upcoming refresh for the 2022 Ford Expedition will include a massive new infotainment screen inside the cabin. The new screen in the 2022 Expedition will outsize the infotainment screen in GM’s latest next-gen, full-size SUVs.
As reported by our sister publication, Ford Authority, recent spy photos of a 2022 Ford Expedition prototype reveal that the upcoming Blue Oval brand product comes with an enormous, vertically oriented display mounted in the vehicle’s center stack. The screen looks as though it’s taken directly from the Mustang Mach-E, Ford’s new all-electric crossover, which boasts a screen measured at 15.5 inches.
By comparison, rival products from General Motors come equipped with much smaller infotainment screens, as the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, and 2021 GMC Yukon all come standard with a 10-inch infotainment screen. In addition to the new, larger touchscreen, the 2022 Ford Expedition will also come with several other updates for the interior, as well as revised exterior styling to boot.
Based on the Ford T3 platform, the Ford Expedition is currently the Blue Oval brand’s largest utility vehicle, with full-size exterior measurements and body-on-frame construction based on a modified version of the half-ton architecture underpinning the Ford F-150.
The Ford Expedition comes equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 gas engine producing 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which connects to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Expedition also comes with a four-wheel independent suspension setup.
With it’s new, larger infotainment screen, the 2022 Ford Expedition has a leg up on its GM SUV rivals in terms of screen real estate. However, the way in which that screen will play out with regard to integration with the rest of the refreshed Expedition’s interior remains to be seen.
