New 2021 Chevrolet Onix Hatchback Arrives In Chile

Four months after the debut of the second-generation model in the local market, General Motors has just launched the new 2021 Chevrolet Onix hatchback in Chile – the fastest growing automotive market in South America. The five-door variant of the Onix arrives as the youthful complement to the sedan version initially launched, aiming to reinforce the model’s presence in the Chilean market.

Unlike the Onix sedan, which arrives in the southern country imported from the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, the 2021 Chevrolet Onix hatchback arrives in Chile from Brazil. As we have previously reported, out of the three facilities around the world where the second-generation subcompact is manufactured, the Brazilian plant in Gravataí is currently the only one that produces the Onix in a five-door variant.

2021 Chevrolet Onix RS

The five-door 2021 Chevrolet Onix was launched in Chile with two trim levels, including the new sporty looking RS variant and the top-of-the-line Premier. With these configurations, the Onix hatchback is positioned above the first two trim levels of the sedan, which is available in LS and LT variants due to increased demand from Chilean customers in that vehicle category.

Both versions of the 2021 Onix hatchback include standard equipment such as the seven-inch infotainment screen, OnStar telematics system, six airbags, stability and traction control, Hill Start Assist and anti-lock brakes. The Premier version adds an engine start button, an on-board 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless phone charging, electronic climate control, LED lights, Side Blind Zone Alert and park assist.

Mechanically, the 2021 Chevrolet Onix hatchback for the Chilean market maintains the 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine that develops 116 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque as the only option. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission on the RS variant, and to a six-speed automatic transmission on the Premier version.

The 2021 Chevrolet Onix hatchback is now available throughout the brand’s official dealer network in Chile, expanding the lineup of the successful model that is today GM’s best-selling car worldwide – behind only the Silverado pickup and the Equinox crossover. The suggested prices of the 2021 Onix hatchback in the Chilean market are as follows:

  • 2021 Onix HB RS: 10,390,000 CLP (about $13,525 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • 2021 Onix HB Premier: 11,290,000 CLP ($14,699 USD)
