Hooker Introduces New C8 Corvette Three-Inch Exhaust System: Video

A number of aftermarket companies have already released their own respective exhaust kits for the C8 Corvette and C8 Corvette Convertible, including Hennessey, Corsa and AWE Tuning. Now established exhaust manufacturer Hooker is getting in on the action too, releasing its new BlackHeart series three-inch cat-back exhaust system for the mid-engine sports car.

Hooker says this cat-back exhaust upgrade is made of tig-welded 304 stainless steel and is about 35 percent lighter than the factory exhaust/muffler that comes on the C8 Corvette. With a straight-through high-flow design, the company says the exhaust kit gives the new ‘Vette “a raspy performance growl,” and can bump output of its 6.2L LT2 V8 engine by around 10 horsepower from stock.

In addition to adding horsepower and improving the sound of the C8 Corvette, the Hooker BlackHeart series exhaust for the C8 Corvette also works with the factory NPP dual-mode exhaust system. This allows the driver to adjust the sound level of the exhaust from within the cabin, with the Hooker exhaust providing a greater depth of range. The exhaust is quiet and drone-free with the valves closed, but sounds significantly louder and more defined when they are opened. These exhaust kits also use factory hanger points for quick and easy at-home installation.

As a quick reminder, the C8 Corvette is rated at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque from the factory. The available Chevy Performance Exhaust bumps output slightly from 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet. The only available transmission in the mid-engine sports car is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters, which was designed by Michigan-based GM supplier Tremec.

We’re still awaiting pricing for the Hooker BlackHeart series exhaust for the C8 Corvette (this new kit has yet to appear on the company’s website) but in the meantime, have a listen to how it with opened and closed dual-mode valves in the video embedded below.

  6. Has anyone just tried going with 3″ straight pipes from the cats out? Did that on my ’95 and ’96 Viper and they still sound Great!! Corsa and all don’t sound as good and the price was about 100.00 to AAA muffler in ’96 and ’97.
