The GMC Sierra 3500HD was just recognized as the best Large Heavy Duty Pickup in the latest J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Resale Value Awards.
In addition to grabbing the top spot in the Heavy Duty Pickup segment, the GMC Sierra 3500HD was also recognized for having the best overall resale value in the industry of all models listed in the study.
The GMC Sierra 3500HD was followed by the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD in the Heavy Duty Pickup segment, proving the high resell value of General Motors’ heavy-duty pickup models.
Now in its third year, the J.D. Power U.S. Resale Value Awards look at resale values across 25 model-level vehicle segments. The study examines transaction data using customer insights after three years of ownership.
This years’ study evaluated 270 different vehicle models using a sample of over 592,000 transactions, with an average of 2,200 data points assessed per vehicle.
“The award selection process utilizes used vehicle wholesale prices, which represent how much a dealer pays for a used vehicle,” J.D. Power states. “These prices are then divided by the vehicle’s original purchase price.”
The calculations are based on wholesale records from May of 2020 to September of 2020, focusing on vehicles from the 2017 model year.
“Our transaction database shows which models have the lowest depreciation costs, hence providing consumers with a key component in the total cost of ownership of the vehicle they plan to purchase or sell,” said vice president and general manager of vehicle valuations at J.D. Power, Jonathan Banks. “Currently, wholesale prices remain strong and we expect prices will be greater than pre-virus levels by year’s end. However, given the volatility of the market, it’s more important for consumers to factor this information into their purchase decision.”

shouldnt the silverado 3500 be second ? Also ! They come off the same assembly line some even right behind each other – huhm
That’s true, mechanically those trucks are still identical, some are still getting used to the appearance of the Silverado HD, in which to some degree may have given the Sierra a slight advantage in this category.
Rebadging vehicles is a gift and a curse. In this case it is a gift because having two brands of the same vehicle lessons the availability of the vehicle in the preowned market. Thus boosting retainment value. On the other hand when this vehicle makes a dubious list, GMC and Chevy both make that list in some instances making GM as a company look bad.
Sure the heavy trucks 3500 HD are the best, especially in the Gulf Countries. GMC PICK UP truly being loved by my customers I am one those lovers I used to have the old models 79 up to 84. Now a days I tried the 2013 model 3500 HD. But one thing I need to let you know about we need the Stalian model to be back in the market again, even if you do some change and up grade to this lovely model.
2004 GMC 2500HD 8.1 liter V8 with Allison 5 speed is my choice tugs my 30 foot 8k trailer like a king on the road! Very reliable and just keeps on going ! Just turned 93k ! She loves gas and 1 quart of oil between changes and it gets me to my destination and back without a hiccup!!!
I agree with the comment of GMC models 1999 up to 2006, those models very reliable and very strong in engine power and body. As well less consuming gasoline, also rarly if they need maintenance.
