GM Issues TSB For 2020 Corvette Transmission Control Module Glitch

General Motors has issued a Technical Service Bulletin for the 2020 Corvette due to a minor software glitch with the transmission control module (TCM).

According to the TSB, certain 2020 model-year Chevy Corvette vehicles “may have a condition where diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P1967 and/or P1968 may falsely set in the transmission control module due to a software misalignment.”

To remedy this issue, the TSB instructs dealer service departments to update the software in the TCM to a newer version. Owners who have accepted the terms and conditions to perform over-the-air (OTA) updates can also download this software update themselves at home, negating the need to bring the vehicle into the dealership.

Additionally, all 2020 Corvette and Corvette Convertible models currently sitting on Chevy dealer lots will be updated with the new software to avoid further problems down the line. Dealers will also automatically update the TCM software when a 2020 Corvette or Corvette Convertible is brought into the dealership during the warranty period for any reason.

Because this is a software update only, no parts are required for the repairs to be performed. All 2020 Corvette and Corvette Convertible models are affected by this issue. It’s worth noting that while GM has issued a TSB for this problem, it does not pose a safety risk to occupants of the vehicle, so there has not been an official federally mandated recall.

The 2020 Corvette is only available with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is built by Tremec in Wixom, Michigan. GM recently reached an agreement with Canadian labor union Unifor to in-source some of the work for the eight-speed DCT at its St. Catharines Powertrain plant in southern Ontario, though it’s not exactly clear what this work may entail.

  2. While some issues have surfaced with the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray, all in all GM has done an outstanding job overall with the Corvette. there have been some over the air fixes, and this makes it easier on the owner and on the company. This software glitch was diagnosed and a treatment fix found, yet again for the transmission codes. I think GM should be complimented when the company does things correctly to keep the cars on the road and out of the dealership. Thus far, I had a couple of issues, but my Chevrolet dealer stepped up to correct a battery issue and a head unit of the infotainment center issue. Since then the funk issue was corrected over the air. I am curious though. If there hasn’t been a code issue for the Tremec DCT on the C8, is the over-the-air correction recommended to be performed, anyway? AF

  3. I’ve been wondering… since tremec made this DTC for the mid engined vette and another for Fords GT500… which of the two would be the best swap for a 2015 CTS-V coupe? If that’s the tranny pic at the bottom… than the vette one would not fit the caddy. So, might the one for the gt500 fit the caddy? Trying to upgrade my CTS-V transmission from the lethargic one it came with… Any useful information is greatly appreciated

    1. C8 trans is a transaxle so that would be out of the question. GT 500 ten speed trans should be internally the same as the ZL1 Camaro since GM and Ford developed it together. I think your best bet would be the ZL1 ten speed auto. Can’t imagine it will simply bolt in but it’s probably as close as you can get for a trans upgrade.

  4. I’m wondering if the trans update is what I had to just do today? When I got in car a message stated software update is ready to download. Is this the Transmission update?

I had the same software download update yesterday 11/14/20.
I downloaded it successfully ( 5 minute download), however, I have no idea what the TSB download was all about?’
I think I am going to call the my Chevy dealer tomorrow to find out if that was the software update pertaining to that trans software fix, and how do I see/find what the TSB downloads are pertaining to.

  5. Just installed this update on my C8. Went without a hitch, as did the OTA update on the “frunk”. Pretty cool that we can do this at home in our garage. The car even notifies you that an update is available. No the car is not cursed, GM did a good job with the design. Like all new models, once in a while things have to be attended to. Ferrari, Lambo, they go through the same thing with their new models.

  7. New C8 2021 1100 miles. In two times for check engine light. Dealer says needs new transmission even though it runs and shifts perfect. No GM wants to rebuild it and use a tech that has never done one. Screw GM. I see a lemon law case. Only needs one more issue after it’s fixed and they will get me a new 2022. I will not take a repurchase. Then I’ll go back to porsche. They should be ashamed of then selves. This car has been been drive very easy. Never over 5K
    Don’t by GM

  8. More GM junk. Terrible customer service, dealers that have no idea on how to work on a C8. Until they get the transmission issues fixed, stay away. Now they want to rebuild one on a NEW car with 1100 miles though it runs perfect. Tech at dealer has never do e one.
