The Buick Enclave Sport Touring package was introduced for the 2020 model year as an optional appearance package for the large crossover. Now, GM Authority has learned that General Motors has increased production of 2021 Enclave models equipped with that very package.
For the 2020 model year, GM recommended that Enclave Sport Touring (ST) models represent between 10 and 15 percent of the Enclave mix at Buick dealers. Having increased production of the Enclave Sport Touring, The General now suggests that vehicles with the package represent 20 percent of a dealer’s Enclave mix for the 2021 model year.
The Sport Touring package for the 2020 Buick Enclave as well as the 2021 Buick Enclave features a unique Sport grille with body-color surround, 20-inch machine-face aluminum wheels with Satin Graphite painted pockets and 255/50 all-season tires. Keen-eyed observers will also notice the Sport Touring badging on the liftgate. The package is available exclusively on the Essence trim level, the second of four Enclave trims, and adds $1,695 to the vehicle’s cost.
The second-generation Buick Enclave was introduced for the 2018 model year, and is based on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform. The same architecture is also used to underpin the second-generation Chevrolet Traverse. The Enclave can seat a maximum of seven occupants across its three rows of seating.
All Enclave models, including the Enclave Sport Touring, are fitted with the 310 horsepower 3.6L LFY V6 engine mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic M3W transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive is optional. All Buick Enclave models for the North American market are assembled at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan; the facility has been building the Enclave since the first-generation model was introduced in 2007.
GM was planning to update the Buick Enclave via a mid-cycle enhancement for the 2021 model year. However, the refresh was postponed to the 2022 model year as a result of difficulties arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The updated model will now launch for the 2022 model year, as the 2022 Buick Enclave. The same circumstance impacted various other GM refreshes, including the Chevy Equinox and Traverse as well as the GMC Terrain, among others.
