Chevy Bolt EV Posts Highest-Ever Retail Sales In September

The Chevy Bolt EV posted its highest-ever retail sales ever in September.

An internal sales document seen by GM Authority states that the electric vehicle “had its highest-ever retail month in September” 2020 in the United States. Though the document didn’t mention the actual sales figure, cumulative (retail and fleet) Bolt EV sales increased nearly 18 percent during the third quarter of 2020, a timeframe that encompasses July, August as well as September.

Meanwhile, Chevy Bolt EV sales slipped in most other global markets during Q3, including Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Brazil.

Having launched for the 2017 model year, the Bolt EV is currently Chevrolet’s only battery electric vehicle sold in North America. The crossover-like hatchback rides on the GM BEV2 platform, and is equipped with a 66-kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired to a single motor. The combination delivers 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, along with a maximum 259 miles between charges.

In 2017 – its first full year on the market – the Bolt EV accumulated 23,297 U.S. sales. That represents the highest yearly sales volume thus far in the model’s history. Subsequent calendar years saw less deliveries, with 2018 seeing 18,019 units and 2019 garnering 16,418 sales. Assuming a linear sales progression, the vehicle is on track to deliver roughly 19,000 units during the 2020 calendar year.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV will bring a refresh that will include revisions to the front and rear styling, as well as a new interior. The hard cabin materials as well as the seats have served as a point of contention by various owners.

    1. Chevy has had big $8k discount. That along with other store discounts like Coast co of $3k make it a great deal.
The battery seems to hold up very well too. A great efficient erliable car.

  3. I was one of those people that bought in September. Well, technically it was August. It’s a great car but way overpriced. Once GM started selling it at a reasonable price tag you’ll see it’s quite a competitive vehicle. I got mine $24k out the door which is honestly what the everyday price should be. $39k for the base LT is way too much

    1. They know that. It’s why they have been offering $8500 off every month since January when I bought mine. My sticker was $39795. I paid $27400 out the door for a loaded LT.And it’s Oasis Blue, like the photos above.

    2. I’m curious. If you think it’s overpriced then why did you buy one?

      1. I think OP was referring to sticker price not what he paid out the door

  4. Truly an amazing vehicle. Lots of space in a small footprint. Lots of power and good handling. Range is exceeded only by the Tesla, which is $15,000 more. I had to drive 400 miles to Atlanta to get one in Shocking Green, but it was worth it. Best car I’ve ever owned, and no, I don’t work for GM.

Bought it in September. With $8500 “cash rebate” + $3000 Costco + 2009 Acura TL (trade in) = $20K for max loaded LT out the door
It’s Fun to drive that car! The commute is a pleasure, I now love traffics 🙂 “One pedal driving” saves your Kwh.

  6. Bought our well-optioned Bolt LT in kinetic blue last month for $27,800, no trade. We looked at Tesla Model 3 but price difference too great with these incentives and wife disliked the big screen, prefers Bolt instrument panel (which is actually pretty cool). We love the bright, airy cabin and roomy back seat. Great driving position, superb visibility. I’ve owned a Gen 1 Volt for over 5 years and have been impressed with its performance and reliability. Best car I’ve ever owned. We’re keeping the Volt and selling our Civic. To sweeten the deal, our utility is offering $2,500 rebate for purchase and installation of ChargePoint L2 unit in our garage. Check for rebates in your area. The Bolt is proof that EVs are going mainstream. Drive one, you’ll be impressed! Note that most dealers dislike them. No maintenance aside from tire rotation until 50k miles.

  8. Very inexpensive EV, just payed $14,200 for a 2017 used one with 33,600 miles…….. battery still perfect and it’s paying for itself with gas savings I’m fortunate to live near a free level 2 charger in my city.
