The GM Authority Take
Chevrolet sales in the United States suffered a noteworthy decline during the third quarter of 2020. The results represent the fourth consecutive quarter of decreasing sales for the brand since posting its last positive result in the third quarter of 2019. Despite the ongoing drops in sales volume, Q3 sales represent a significant recovery compared to the substantially more pronounced decrease during the second quarter of 2020, brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, Q3 saw Chevy deliver 118,400 more vehicles than during Q2.
A total of fourteen Chevrolet models saw significant declines in sales volume during Q3, including the Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Equinox – General Motors‘ top-selling vehicles. However, the Silverado was once again the nameplate that experienced the lowest rate of negative change. In fact, it was the only model to post a single-digit sales decline. This is thanks to the healthy year-over-year increases posted by the Silverado HD and Medium Duty models despite uncharacteristically low inventory levels. This performance has enabled Chevy’s full-size truck line to maintain positive cumulative sales figures for the first nine months of the year.

Meanwhile, five other Chevy models managed to significantly increase sales volumes, including Blazer, Bolt EV, Corvette, Sonic and Spark. In fact, the new Chevrolet Blazer posted its best quarterly sales performance since launching early last year. With 29,486 deliveries, the Blazer was Chevy’s fourth best-selling model in Q3, after the Silverado, Equinox and Traverse. Additionally, the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer posted its best quarterly sales performance to date in the United States, delivering 10,322 units.

Sales are down because I bought a new Mustang……….
Good for you Dennis. You can log in the Ford Authority
Well maybe I will look at FORD Authority. FYI, I’ve owned over 75 new and used GM vehicles. I currently drive two very new Chevy Equinoxes. I have been a very loyal GM customer. However, I get tired of looking at the CAMARO that hasn’t changed in ten years. In addition, I can actually see out of my Mustang!
Also, GM is becoming China Motors…………GM’s loyalty isn’t to their customers. Sadly there’s a lot of great dealerships staffed with loyal Americans out there who will suffer. As one of my sales folks said………Mary Barra should spend more time supplying good affordable product other than worrying about 5G and Batteries! Enough said my friends!
I have a 19 Traverse Premier, no complaints and and did test drive the Korean twins, Mazda, and Ford. I also have a 09 Colorado v8 with the 5.3 300HP 325TQ with over 113K miles and runs like new. I have a 99 Camaro SS that has been modded that produces 411 RWHP and the integrity has held up – so far. I have owned other foreign and domestic brands and obviously went back to GM… But, to Dennis’s point, catering to China as if they are special over our workers and build locations in the US, maybe my next purchase may not be GM. People/Companies that deal with China over the US is down right a negative and is a huge part of my buying decisions.
When the Buick Envision came out, I went to test drive and the sales guy told me it was built in China, I walked out. Not supporting China. I’m an American and will spend my dollars here even if I have to pay more or more often.
Agree. We need to buy vehicles made at least under the NAFTA region. Same as you, I have tried the chinese made and I will spend the money here. Now when I go shopping I look for the “made in” graphics. If I have a choice of USA it is a no brainer, regardless of the price.
Could be that the choice for many at the GM dealerships is lacking, either through production numbers, or some dealerships we’ve driven by don’t always have the model we would like to look at.
Good point CEE. I live by 1 Chevrolet dealership with 2 locations and 1 is almost empty while the other is stacked. Same for used.
