Chevrolet Performance Identifies ‘Big 4’ Upgrades For The Chevy Silverado 1500

While there is a large selection of performance parts and accessories available for the current-generation Chevry Silverado 1500, General Motors suggests buyers stick to official OEM-backed parts from its accessories catalog. These parts can also be installed without voiding the truck’s factory warranty, giving owners peace of mind when modifying their vehicles.

The automaker recently identified four of the most important performance parts Chevrolet Silverado 1500 buyers can purchase from its performance catalog. The “Big 4” as the automaker calls them will improve the performance of the truck and, most importantly, will allow the owner to keep on relying on that three-year factory warranty.

The “Big 4” include the Cat Back Exhaust Upgrade System, Air Intake Upgrade System (available for the 5.3L L84 V8 and 6.2L L87 V8 engines), Front Brembo Big Brake Upgrade System and Rancho Two Inch Suspension Lift Kit from the Chevrolet Performance catalog. The exhaust upgrade kits increase horsepower and give the truck a more aggressive sound, while the air intake upgrade helps reduce intake restriction and looks great with the hood up.

The two-inch suspension lift is perhaps the most important upgrade here, giving the truck more ground clearance and thus improving its off-road capability. This lift kit is compatible with all Chevy Silverado 2WD and 4WD models, though it does require a front camera reconfiguration and electronic power steering recalibration due to the two-inch lift. For this reason, this part should be installed by an official GM dealership rather than at home or by a third-party shop.

The Brembo big brake upgrade kit, meanwhile, improves brake pad surface area by 89% to improve stopping power and improve brake life. Customers who want to match the front brake caliper color to the rears can also opt for the Color Keyed Rear Calipers.

“Keep your Silverado capability ahead of the curve, equip it with Chevrolet Performance Big 4,” the automaker said in a statement. “This core group of Chevrolet Performance upgrades is designed to help increase horsepower, reduce airflow restriction, provide an integrated 2-inch suspension lift and enhance brake system thermal capacity, all without voiding your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Whichever Chevrolet Performance parts you choose, rest assured that they are seamlessly integrated with your Chevy Silverado right from design stage for fit, appearance and compatibility.”

The Chevrolet Big 4 upgrades were announced this week as part of the SEMA360 online show. Chevy has also shown off numerous other performance upgrade parts during SEMA360, including the Electric Connect and Cruise Package and Camaro SS drag racing parts. The SEMA360 online show kicked off on November 2nd and will shut its virtual doors on November 8th.

  1. It’s odd you can add the Brembo brakes when building a GMC, however it’s not an option online when building a Silverado.

  2. I thought that one of the upgrades would be AFM delete

    1. Yeh, How nice that would be. The AFM system, is the stupidest thing GM EVER came up with. Try to get GM to warranty these when they go bad. Had them crap the bed on my wife’s 2012 Tahoe. The service manager actually laughed at us. Told us we used the wrong oil. Sounded like the speel they gave owners in the late ’70’s, early ’80’s abount bad cam shafts. Then the courts stepped in and made GM reimburse owners the cost they jammed down their throats. It’s this kind of crap that turns people away from GM. It’s gotta stop!!!!!!

      1. Just picked up my 2019 5.3l PU from the dealership that wouldn’t honor the warranty and wanted to charge me $8000 for a cam and lifters. Oh and I still had to make my $795 car payments for the 7 months they had it.

    2. Just get a range afm disabler

      1. I did! Solved the problem. But time will tell, if it really is the long term solution. The jury is still out. Here’s a better Idea, GM, don’t put this stupid “Nanny” stuff in these new trucks to begin with. It NEVER stays working right, and ends up costing the owners tons of $. And ridicule.

    3. What is AFM?

      1. It’s “Active Fuel Management”. When your cruising down the road, it shuts down from 8 cylinders, to 4. It shuts down the valve train. IT SUCKS. The whole system is designed to fail at some point. The the Dealer tells you it’s the customers fault. That’s the biggest line of BS ever. It can cost up to $3,000.00 to have them “FIX” it. More BS. Just put a Range diabler unit in your truck. It will keep the engine management system happy.

  4. How about a ZQ8 suspension kit?

  5. Not that installing any of the upgrades prior would void your warranty anyway ……..

  6. Here’s the deal. One HAS to purchase these 4 Super parts, from the “GM Performance Catalog”. Then, it’s recommended, that you have the service dept, install them, Yeh, right! First off, one can purchase the exact same products, for hundreds less. at almost any reputable off road distributor. And not have to pay some young gun service tech, right out of sckool, to install it. Most old guy techs, won’t touch the new stuff to begin with, Almost any home wrench, can do these 4 simple installs. The warranty isn’t worth the paper its printed on anyway. Just try to get your AFM lifters replaced. And a judge just through out the excess oil claimes. Just goes to show you, GM wins all the time.

  7. Does anybody know who manufactures the GM performance exhaust these days? On my 2015 Sierra Denali 1500 6.2 I had the GM performance exhaust which, back then, was manufactured by Borla. (It even came with Borla branded tailpipe outlets) 2 outlets side by side that exited behind the right rear tire and it sounded terrific. Nice rumble, without being “wake up the neighbors” loud.

  8. First of all simply doing upgrades with aftermarket parts DOESN’T VOID THE WARRANTY!The Magnuson Act prevents that, the dealership MUST PROVE that an aftermarket part caused damage, period.Borla makes GM performance exhaust,Cold Air Inductions makes the cold air intakes.Dealers for a long time try to scare people into avoiding aftermarket parts which is hilarious due to the fact that those companies make their parts! Also any GDI engine(gasoline direct injection) must have an oil catch can!The oil isn’t supposed to be in the combustion chamber, the intake manifold or the throttle body.It simply forms a loop with the pcv system to catch excess oil from blow bye, that’s it.I had a Chevy dealer actually complement me because I have them in my rides because the blow bye causes carbon build up which sticks lifters and flattens camshafts. It can also damage the catalyst system.$149 @JLT Performance saves the engine folks, way cheaper than the alternative. It installs in 10 minutes with a screw driver.Get one. Also no GDI manufacturers are immune to this, they all have blow bye, especially the Hemi 5.7L.

  9. If you order the performance package while ordering your Silverado, is it installed at the factory or dealer installed at delivery?

    1. At the Dealer – Which is just wrong because We the Customer are stuck with paying for 2 exhaust systems ,2 Brake systems (You get where I’m going)and labor ! Someone show me I`m Wrong Here . Hey can someone from GM tell us how much are we paying for all 4 upgrades. And why we can`t have a credit for all the brand new parts being removed – And a credit for atleast part of the labor involved for doing all this work Twice ???

      Reply
      1. Then they sell your new parts to someone else.

        Reply
      2. All you can do is try and sell the removed parts. They are yours, so dealer has to return them to you.

  10. Nice that they are offering some kinda of Performance parts . Should be using Bilstein shocks instead of Ranchos. Oh well, can’t win em all I guess 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    Reply
  11. GM has used Bilstein in the past, I remember the 2000ish S10 ZR2 off road that came with them.Rancho probably secured the contract by being the lowest bidder, just like the space shuttle, lol.

    1. Yeah, they did use Bilstein back in the day. My 2002 Avalanche Z71 came with them. Unfortunately, after only about a year the right front shock started leaking. Since they were factory installed, no warranty. So I replaced them with Edelbrock shocks, which worked great.

  12. AFM works well on my 2 vehicles that have them.DodgeRam/Chrysler has AFM issues also.Using synthetic oil helps(dealers use semi synthetic) but the culprit is the oil blow bye.Catch can fixes it,I can attest to it.
