Cadillac Lyriq EV Crossover To Arrive In Q1 Of 2022

The Cadillac Lyriq show car dropped cover in August as a preview of the luxury brand’s all-electric future. With the forthcoming launch of the production-spec Lyriq, Cadillac will take its first steps in introducing a long line of new all-electric vehicles, coinciding with GM’s movement towards an EV-centric future. Now, General Motors has confirmed that the Lyriq will arrive in the first quarter of 2022 in the U.S. market, an impressive nine months ahead of schedule. The Lyriq was previously slated for a launch late in 2022.
In a recent press release, GM outlines how the Cadillac Lyriq program was accelerated, while also indicating that “other vehicles” set to be revealed at a later date were also accelerated.
The hastened time-to-market is attributed to the “modular and highly flexible qualities of the Ultium system, along with engineering advances in battery technology, use of virtual development tools and lessons learned during the Hummer EV development process,” per the recent press release.
“The 2022 GMC Hummer EV’s development time of 26 months – down from about 50 months – is now the benchmark,” General Motors states.
General Motors also confirmed it has 30 new global EV launches planned through the 2025 calendar year.
The automaker has earmarked more than $27 billion for its new EV and AV (autonomous vehicle) products, outpacing internal combustion (gas and diesel) investments. GM says it anticipates advances in its Ultium battery technology to provide upwards of 450 miles per charge.
“Climate change is real, and we want to be part of the solution by putting everyone in an electric vehicle,” said GM CEO Mary Barra. “We are transitioning to an all-electric portfolio from a position of strength and we’re focused on growth. We can accelerate our EV plans because we are rapidly building a competitive advantage in batteries, software, vehicle integration, manufacturing and customer experience.”
