The GM Authority Take

The Envision’s 44 percent growth in Q3 2020 followed a 14 percent decline in Q2 2020, a 9 percent drop in Q1 2020 and an 11 percent growth in Q4 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic appears to have had no impact on Buick Envision sales during Q3 2020, likely because the vehicle is imported from China, which started lock-down proceedings earlier than the U.S. As a result, China was also able to return to work earlier, and ship units of the Envision to satisfy demand.

Looking further down the line, the Envision will be completely overhauled for the 2021 model year. Moving to the GM E2 platform shared with the Cadillac XT4, the new model will launch in early 2021. The current, first-gen model will be discontinued in North America. In China, the current Envision will remain on sale as the Envision, while the all-new, second-gen model will be sold as the Envision S.

  1. I love the new Envision coming out soon, but I also love the current one. I like the exterior that is slightly different than the basic looks of nearly everything else. But the interior is where i feel the current one really shines. Glad to see sales up.

  2. Bejing Biden will be the best thing that happens to Chinese Buicks. Wait for the Regal to reappear in NA.

    1. did trump ever stop making his schlock in china?

i think the ct6 has a better chance of returning to america(from china) than the regal.

  3. I guess they must have gotten over the China connection.

    1. i hope we make it as difficult for chinese auto manufacturers to export their cars to america as they did for our manufacturers.

if we let them walk in here and set up shop without a steep price, that would be galling.

      1. The American people can make this as difficult as they want . If you don’t want Chinese automobiles in the U.S. don’t buy them. Let them go the way of the Yugo! That includes GM and the Invasion!

        1. i agree. the only way to punish chinese auto manufacturers is at the consumer level. no country that wants access to the chinese market is going to punish them. unless everyone does it, no one is going to do it.

but i think a vehicle like the ct6 is different. it is a gm product and they couldn’t make it here profitably. but in china, i guess the numbers work out. so if they imported it from china to america, that is more of a globalization story than a china one.

          1. Agreed, with the exception of one important detail: I don’t think the numbers didn’t work out for the CT6. From everything I’ve seen and heard, the numbers for it coming out of D-HAM worked just fine, until GM’s electrification push began.

At that point, there was nowhere to put North American CT6 production, at least not without considerable expense and investment in and expansion of another facility. That expense, in turn, would have caused the numbers to not work out, hence the decision to axe it entirely.

  4. I have my 2020 Envision 2 months. It has an incredibly comfortable ride, unlike most SUVs. I’m also getting 31mpg on the highway. This truck is better than I thought it would be.
