In addition to launching the refreshed 2021 Buick GL6 Mild Hybrid that’s exclusive to the Chinese market, General Motors took advantage of the 2020 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition to introduce its V2X communication technology in the Asian country. This new intelligent Vehicle-to-Everything solution, which plays a vital safety role in the future mobility network, made its debut in the China under the Buick brand.
In fact, GM announced that before the end of the year, Buick will become the first brand to implement V2X technology in a mass-production vehicle in China. This communication protocol is a strategic innovation to increase safety, reduce congestion and prevent collisions, as it allows vehicles to communicate with each other and with the surrounding infrastructure, creating a fully integrated and intelligent traffic system.
“Buick is showing a strong presence with our most advanced portfolio ever in Guangzhou,” said Executive Director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Molly Peck, in a statement. “From electrification to connectivity to future mobility, Buick is riding an unprecedented technology wave to strengthen its market leadership and bring the greener, safer and more intelligent future a step closer to our customers in China,” she added.
Currently, Buick’s market-ready V2X communication technology incorporates vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) solutions that support a total of eight safety applications. These include emergency braking warning, loss of control warning, abnormal vehicle warning, intersection collision warning, speed limit warning, signal violation warning, hazard location warning, and green-light optimization speed warning.
The definitive implementation of V2X technology in a production vehicle will be possible thanks to Buick eCloud’s new electrical architecture – better known as GM Global B electronic architecture, which guarantees high-speed connectivity and data transmission. Combined with Buick’s advanced driver assistance systems, this next-generation communication mechanism will provide users with a much safer driving experience.
In the future, Buick’s V2X communication technology will be further expanded to include vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), vehicle-to-cloud (V2C) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology. This will support the creation of a more robust ecosystem for smart mobility and smart cities for the next era of autonomous vehicles that promises to radically transform the transportation experience we know to this day.
Although the automaker has yet to announce which Buick model will be the first vehicle to incorporate V2X communication technology in China, it’s worth noting that the all-new Buick Envision S – which will be sold in North America as the 2021 Envision – is currently the only Buick model to feature eCloud architecture.

So now your car will broadcast your bad driving and near-accidents so the ticket will show up in the mail. It’s a “signal violation warning,” not “virtual red-light camera”. No wonder its debuting in China.
is this going to interfere with the bill gates chip they’ll be implanting when we get the vaccine shot?
just to be clear … that was a joke for you all of you conspiracy nutjobs out there.
I can see sales of tin foil hats rising……
Is this based on C-V2X technology or the DSRC technology (802.11p) the FCC last week moved support away from? If it is based on DSRC then it will not see any deployment in the US. Even if it is DSRC, at least GM can play around with V2X to figure out what even makes sense for broad deployment.
GM screwed up and now is trying to recoup the money they spent on cars in china since they never deployed it in the US save for the CTS and lost the rights. Pathetic!
China will steal, improve and sell cheaper. Once in the USA, your data will be sent to China. Lol… jk…I hope!
seriously if I was a china man I would cut the wires on that crap, commies do not have anything better to do than oppress there people, why do you think when Tony Soprano moved to an escalade the first thing he did was disable the onstar crap smart thieves rip the rearview mirror out when they steal them. With a new president he probably will not care what data the china man has on you.
Old codger posters like; “NO WAY, it’s a witch ,burn it burn it, we want old style mechanical cars, no electronics, no devilish signals just use wheels and nots nothing more.”
