The GM Authority Take

After posting its first sales volume increase in the past two years during Q2 2020, Buick China sales increased even more in the third quarter. In fact, the 252,100 units sold in Q3 represent the best performance the tri-shield brand has recorded in the Chinese market in recent history, marking a significant recovery in volume after suffering a significant loss due to the COVID-19. Still, Buick still maintains a negative performance in terms of year-to-date sales through September.

Buick’s excellent commercial performance in Q3 is thanks to the substantial popularity of the Buick Excelle GT sedan, which remains the brand’s best-selling model in the country. In addition, Buick China sales were also assisted by solid levels of acceptance of the brand’s renewed portfolio of vehicles. In particular, GM highlighted the positive results of the GL8 full-size MPV range as well as of the Envision family of utility vehicles, which saw significant increases thanks to the recent introduction of all-new or refreshed models.

In this way, Buick establishes itself as GM’s most popular American brand in the world’s largest automotive market. Within the entire GM China subdivision, Buick is only second to local economy brand Wuling in terms of cumulative sales volume.

  1. The new Envision S Avenir is beautiful and, design wise, capable of competition with Lexus and Audi. I’m curious to see how the vehicle sells in the US.
Face it: Cadillac SUVs will never be a luxury leader and competes with Lincoln, Buick and GMC. It will never have a large line up and should not be a global brand. Buick would do better competing with the Asian brands Oz, Latam and Europe.

Cadillac’s crossovers handle amazingly well on ice and snow.

      1. I’m sure you realize that quality doesn’t equal sales. Cadillac, for too many reasons to bother mentioning, isn’t percieved as a luxury contender globally or on the US coasts where population is highest.

I five vehicle S(C)UV line up probably makes sense but I don’t imagine a hot sedan or sportscar.

Thanks, but I would rather have a vehicle that I could drive year round.

  4. Buick has missed the boat on 2021 model line up. The importance of building a leader, a seller and capitalizing on that idea and product is lost on GM and Buick in particular. It will be the undoing of the corporation. It wasn’t loo long ago they nearly went under, this next time the decision makes will do them selves in. Buick is no Oldsmobile or Pontiac, but it soon will be. The thought for today and always should be the 6 “P” principal: Positive planning prevents piss poor performance.

No go design and make a great automobile, one Mr. Sloan would be prod to call ‘one of his own.

  5. I would be a lot happier and more respectful of GM if they shipped Azteks, Vegas, Cimmarons, Cadillac diesels and other assorted OEM lemons they’ve produced to buck up their “Best Customer”.
