Alu-Cab Offers Canopy Camper For Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon Pickups

Alu-Cab, a New Jersey-based manufacturer of aluminum pop-up tents for overlanders, offers a lightweight canopy camper that is compatible with both the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups.

The Alu-Cab Canopy Camper seamlessly integrates into the pickup’s bed and features a vertical main entryway into the tent area, durable dual-layer tent canvas and side-access canopy doors. The bed can also still be used as a lower storage area when the tent is installed on the truck, leaving plenty of room for food, water and any other supplies overlanders may want to bring with them. It comes with standard roof rails that allow for more rooftop accessories to be mounted to the vehicle, as well, potentially offering further storage solutions.

The Alu-Cab Canopy Camper is compatible with the 2012-present Chevy Colorado and the 2012-present GMC Canyon mid-size pickup trucks. Alu-Cab also offers versions that will fit both Regular Cab/Long Bed and Crew Cab/Short Bed versions of the popular GM pickups.

The Alu-Cab Canopy Camper for the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon is priced from $9,499 USD not including the $499 USD installation accessories kit. It’s available via online store OK4WD, which is the exclusive importer and distributor for Alu-Cab in the United States. While it’s not cheap, it’s worth considering that an upgrade like this essentially transforms your pickup truck into a comfy home away from home.

As a bit of a bonus, Overlanding-focused YouTube channel Coyote Works recently caught up with a Chevy Colorado ZR2 owner who had one of these Alu-Cab Canopy Camper units installed on his truck. This owner has first-hand experience with the camper, so we encourage readers who want to know more about this unique pop-up tent solution to check out the video embedded below for a more in-depth overview of it.

  1. I have a 2019 Canyon 4×4 All Terrain model with the V6 (gas). I like some of the camper inserts but one company claims that it could cause issues with GM’s warranty but don’t claim what issues. I thought this would be a cool idea but I live in Tennessee where it is hot and humid and I “also” wish to use it to parking lot camp at ski resorts like Wolf Creek, CO, and Near Taos, NM, to ski. I see you have Oregon tags which means your no stranger to Cold weather and Snow. How do you find winter camping with this and what makes that possible?
