Chevrolet‘s 2021 model year full-size SUVs, the Tahoe and Suburban, both feature easter eggs that owners might not have noticed. The easter eggs in question are within the new SUVs’ tail lights.
The driver’s side tail light contains the Chevrolet script, as might be expected. It would be reasonable to expect the same thing on the other side, but neither the Tahoe nor the Suburban has that symmetry. Instead, the passenger-side tail light has the famous bow tie logo. The tail lights therefore convey the same information, but by different means.
There is, of course, much more to these SUVs than the tail lights design. Both were completely re-engineered and redesigned for the 2021 model year.
The 2021 Tahoe – named after Lake Tahoe in the states of California and Nevada – represents the fifth generation of the nameplate, since it was created in 1994. Meanwhile, the the 2021 Suburban represents the 12th generation of the nameplate that initially debuted in 1934, marking the longest-running automotive nameplate. The Suburban is 15 inches longer than the Tahoe, but otherwise the two SUVs are mechanically the same.
Based on the T1 platform used by GM’s full-size pickup trucks (Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra) and body-on-frame SUVs (GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade), the Tahoe and Suburban are offered with a choice of three engines:
- 5.3L Ecotec3 L84 V8 gasoline engine rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque
- 6.2L Ecotec3 L87 V8 gasoline engine rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
- 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax engine rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
All three mate to GM’s Hydra-Matic 10L80 ten-speed automatic gearbox.
A total of six trim levels are on offer: LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier and High Country, in ascending price order. Z71 models are focused on off-road driving and are available only with four-wheel drive. Incidentally, the Z71 models can not be had with the Duramax motor due to engineering limitations. The other five trims can be had with either rear-wheel drive or 4WD, though the 6.2L V8 is limited to the High Country models.
The 2021 Tahoe starts at $50,295 for the rear-wheel-drive LS model with the 5.3L engine. The equivalent model in the Suburban range has a base MSRP of $52,995.

This is the hard hitting journalism I love from this site.
It got you to put down your comic book and read it…no??
Just wait. This is a first year redesign. I’m sure that GM and Chevy will lay a few more eggs eith the Suburban and the Tahoe before long
What’s the point?
Waiting to order a 2021 Tahoe Z71. I want the Navigation Package but not want or need the Rear Seat Media Package. Do you know when or how I can get just the Navigation Package alone?
like to order the diesel Tahoe LS 4×4 still no price on Chevrolet web site . 3rd row delete , ft bench seat for so my trail dog can ride up
Those are not easter eggs. They are not hidden. They don’t have any hidden meaning. they are not an inside joke. They are manufacturer’s advertising, plain and simple. Advertising that is very difficult to remove.
@Will:
“Advertising that is very difficult to remove.”
My, what a silly remark!
Would you actually WANT to remove these little things? What about all the other badges, outside and in? Are they not “advertising” too? Would you remove those? They’re much larger, more accessible, and actually NOTICEABLE from more than 3 feet away.
If you don’t want the world to know you have a Chevy then why buy one in the first place?
I buy a vehicle whose features I like so I can drive it where I want and need to go. I don’t buy a vehicle so the rest of the world knows that I have a certain make and model of vehicle. You’re one to talk about “silly remarks”.
Again, these are not Easter eggs. GM has been doing this on many of their vehicles for many years. The headlamps and taillamps will have the brand’s insignia to keep the aftermarket industry at bay. If you get into a car accident, the insurance company must pay for an OEM lamp, not an inferior aftermarket part. It’s a copyright thing…not and Easter egg thing.
Exactly. Just like body panels with the brand trademark over them, like Chevrolet over the Silverado tailgate and Mustang over the rear bumper cover.
Mustang mine
is this something chevy should be proud of. i had no idea until 2 months after buying an 05 chevy impala in an article that its the worst yr impala. worry about making a reliable vehicle yr in an yr out chevy instead of non easter eggs in your boring taillights. 🤡🤡🤡
Why in the world would they do all of that an still leave incandescent bulbs wtf
So you can replace a $2 light bulb instead of a $400 lamp assembly when it dies?
I’m a chevy girl chevrolet or GM I love the Tahoe and Suburbans just wish I could afford another one
@ baker mayfield:
So now we’re complaing about 15 year old cars?
I say it’s your fault. YOU should have researched it before buying.
If you want to know true unreliability, buy a 15 yo Volkswagen.
Wouldn’t it be funny if it was a mistake, they changed to logo or script at the last minute and it only got changed on one side…
Easter Egg?? Looks like a word on one side and a bow tie on the other…how tf is that an Easter Egg???
Really like the new design of both models. Six trim packages to chose from seems like a little bit for the various buyers needs, wants and desires. I have the 2019 surburban LT, I really appreciate the size and handling ability. This is my second surburban I gave my first to my daughter after it provided me 20 years of service and it’s still going strong. The surburbans have been a sound mechanical choice for me.
Millennials LOL
The only easter egg is it doesnt come with adjustable pedals. I have the 21 Tahoe High Country 6.2 fully loaded panoramic sunroof and NO ADJUSTABLE PEDALS! 75k and I have to sit on the dashboard practically cause I’m only 5 3.
Tahoe is the best Police ppv on the market and always has been forget the Ford Explorer no comparison what so ever
Anyone know how to turn on all the interior lights with out opening the door on a 2021 high country suburban? It used to be a toggle button near the sunroof but it is no longer there just a button to turn lights off and on when opening the doors.
Hold any light for 5 seconds.
