On October 20th, 2020, General Motors will finally unveil the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV Sport Utility Truck (SUT). The reveal will be streamed live over the Internet at 8 p.m ET, and GM Authority is the place to watch it all go down.
For those who may be unaware, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV revives the Hummer brand as a series of new battery-electric vehicles, including a large pickup truck and SUV, the former of which will be shown in a debut event on October 20th.
Originally slated for a reveal in May, the GMC Hummer EV debut was pushed back as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Providing the motivation in the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV will be a range of powertrain setups, with customers offered one, two, or three electric motors, depending on the model selected. The range-topping model will produce more than 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, sprinting to 60 mph in three seconds. Maximum range is expected to be around 400 miles.
In addition to impressive on-road performance, General Motors also claims that the new Hummer will offer impressive off-road capability as well.
Under the skin, the new GMC Hummer EV rides on GM’s BT1 platform, a variant of the GM T1 platform used by GM’s full-size pickup and SUV lines, such as the Chevrolet Silverado and Cadillac Escalade. GM’s Ultium battery technology will provide the juice to the Ultium Drive motors.
Production is slated to take place at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan. The plant has since been renamed to GM Factory ZERO. The first units are slated to arrive at dealers in the fall of 2021 as 2022 model year vehicles. Pricing is so far unannounced, but is expected to start around $60,000.
As GM Authority covered previously, interested buyers can make a reservation for a new GMC Hummer EV immediately following the vehicle’s debut. Reservations costs just $100, and interested buyers will be able to choose between four different trim levels, as well as select their preferred dealers. Options and pricing details are expected to drop with the debut, though it’s possible that GM will share this information at a later time.
Make sure to bookmark this post for the reveal on October 20th, and don’t forget to subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Hummer news, GMC news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

“Hummer! Hummer! We’ve got Hummer here!”
“See? Nobody cares.”
Really? Bet.
Can I be the one to say this? h4cksaw please leave GMA.
Would you really enjoy living in a world where all the GM fanboys thought the exact same way? Sounds like a bad Orwellian society to me.
Just because I don’t blindly love all GM products doesn’t mean I don’t belong here. We are lucky to live in a country where you can say whatever you want and I don’t have to comply with your silly request.
lol big Tesla Simp troll
These Teslatards are living on borrowed time and “profoundly overvalued” stock.
@h4cksaw: You know, there is just something about the specific things you say and how you say it. If you have an opinion on Hummer or whatever, go ahead and voice it. But what you said above isn’t an opinion, but just a strange comment that is baiting others who may like (Hummer) GM and what not. I certainly don’t just “blindly love all GM products” and I will voice my opinion at times on here just like many on here will do.
This article was posted for hours without a comment… Maybe I posted a comment that would bait others to participate on purpose?
for some reason, Hummer makes me think of 50 Cent and the G-Unit days lol. Big old H2 Hummer with 24″ spinner rims lol… g-g-g-g-g-g-g-G-U-NIT!!!!!!!! lawl
Because the people who bought them (mostly used) were douchebags.
Can’t wait to see it!
i can’t wait to see how gm’s awful interiors are adapted to an ev truck.
Lol big Tesla simp right there
GM has awful interiors? I have a 2019 Camaro 1LT (base model) with cloth seats and base interior. And it is WAY SUPERIOR to the interior is had in my Toyota Camry. Where does this bad GM interior come from? Because its better than Toyota or Honda. Also my Camaro 1LT costs the same as a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry $30k CAD brand new.
Silhouette reminds me of a Chevrolet Avalanche
Roy, I think that is on purpose. Hence the branding as an SUT. Kind of same thing the Avalanche was.
Dan, yup. That c pillar sail is structural, likely has something to do with the targa roof supports. The “SUT” name implies they’ll take advantage of the integrated cab setup to drop a midgate in there for bed expansion.
I’ll be there!
I think I would like to set up a lot more in a Silverado. I just don’t see myself ever liking a Hummer.
I love a good Hummer…
For the 20+ people that disliked this guy’s comment (which wasnt offensive in anyway), just simply his opinion, which I agree with. I wouldnt buy a Hummer, and if I was to get a vehicle that large, I’d rather get a Silverado. So I hope you guys put your money where your mouth is and buy one. I’d love to see all the new EV Hummers on the road. I’ll wait for the new 7th gen Camaro, personally.
“IF” there is a 7th gen Camaro, you do know that it will be electric right????
All cars will be electric. So yes I expect the 7th gen Camaro to be EV. And I have no problem with that, I’m not one of those people that think V8 Camaro or No Camaro. I’m open to EV, and I already love my 2.0L Turbo. And if GM doesn’t make a 7th Camaro in the future, then they will lose my sale to Ford and Mustang.
We can only hope, GM gets this right. They seem to be obsessed, with all electric vehicles. How owners will be able to charge them, with the left wanting to eliminate all power generating fuels. How will the power grid be able to handle it? Windmills etc, won’t be able to keep up. Calf. wants everybody to have electric in a couple years. All the tree huggers want this, but in real life it ain’t gonna be able to live up to the hype.
A huge truck that can do 0-60 in 3 seconds… Isn’t the TRx with 700hp only good for like 4.5? That’s probably what the dual motor hummer will do. Let’s compare charging and refueling on this.
Stop being a conspiracy theorist and blaming everything in your life you don’t like on politics or more specifically people who don’t think the way you do and just enjoy life a little more. You are depressing the rest of us.
Lets see you have biofuels, Solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal to name a few. Plenty of renewable options exist and can build off each other. Batteries and Molten-salt can also be added to the grid to store power or thermal energy to release when needed.
if the future of ev’s is a $40K bolt, i wouldn’t be worried about straining the power grid.
Bolt’s realistically sell for well under 30k now. A very low mileage CPO Bolt can be had for close to 20k. At 20k they are arguably the best bargain in GM’s lineup, if you don’t believe me go drive one.
at 30K, gm is losing what … at least $10K on each one sold?
GM has never lost money on the sale of any Bolt. Every single one they sell they make money on. Maybe it’s not enough at this point to make up for the engineering cost but that doesn’t mean they are losing money on the vehicle itself since the program is ongoing.
I would like to see Hybrid vehicles! I believe this is the best way in this day and age to get to all Electric Vehicles. Gas to give peace of mind “I’m not going to run out of electric power/range” and electric for cleaner environment. I believe this is a win win position for our today’s technology. Plus make it so the battery is charged thru regenerative braking so you don’t have to “plug in” to replace battery power.
The E-Ray C8 will be the only hybrid vehicle for the time being whenever it gets produced for consumer use. IMO, regenerative braking can give anyone a false sense of security for the reason you have to plug up to charge. Depending on how often or little you drive, there is no need to charge on a daily basis and charge every other day.
This article is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and furry signifying nothing because we still don’t know the critical issues like how many cycles can the batteries take before needing replacement or what type of recharging technology is used because no one wants a giant Chevy Bolt that will require 10-12 hours for a maximum recharge.
You are the biggest pessimist this site has ever known.
The Bolt takes 9.5-10 hours to full recharge on an L2 charger. It’s never been an issue for me, never needed to unplug in the morning where the car didn’t have a full charge.
Omegatalon: I’ll take a giant Chevy Bolt that recharges in 10-12 hours… I have to sleep sometime.
Not the new Bolt EUV, which will use existing batteries, but the Ultium batteries (or whatever they call them), do seem to have a significant life improvement….My Bolt EV at 66,000 miles under its belt is still holding about 94% of its initial charge – which is very good. The new batteries should be significantly better, still.
Traditionally, Lithium Ion batteries have much capacity, then drop 5% rather quickly – and then at this 95% capacity point have many, many miles ahead of them prior to seriously dropping off. They last much longer and with less capacity loss than celly batteries.
While I don’t think the Hummer is the best choice for GM’s first serious EV platform I’ll still take one in a minute over other ICE vehicles if for just one reason ………. to tell the oil companies to go rot in hell. Can’t wait till $ 60 fill ups are history coupled with mind blowing performance, and much less maintenance costs – who wouldn’t want one.
Until the electric bills go up. You know there waiting for that. Here in Chicago the politicians want to kick out com Ed and run it themselfs
Fortunately Kirt – most utilities across the USA have time-of-day metering rates that are optionally available by subscribers for the asking. The incentive here is low-cost electricity when the wholesale price of electricity is much lower, and central plants will actually live longer if kept partially loaded throughout the midnight hours..
A definite- win- win (for electric utility generators and their electric car customers).
Even though gasoline pickup trucks will still sell in large numbers due to extremely economical gasoline prices of late, EV vehicles such as this new HUMMER EV should cost much less to charge under such an attractive overnight rate schedule.
First of all electricity is only as clean as how the electricity is made. For example if you live in Colorado, almost 100% of their electricity is made from burning fossil fuels, so it’s actually less efficient to drive an electric car in Colorado compared to gas vehicles. If you live in Canada or near Niagara Falls, EVs make sense because majority of Canada’s electricity comes from hydro power. Also manufacturing an electric vehicles cause more pollution than a gas car. So for those of you thinking that you’re saving the earth going electric, there’s a good chance your EV causes more pollution than a gas car, depending on where you live and how the electricity is generated there.
This will sell well. GMC, check. Hummer, check. Truck and SUV/SUT, check. Versatility, check. Passing every gas station, check. Will they go about doing daily things that (a few) people actually need them for, check. Will they look good? We hope and think so. Check. My only concern will be price. I can’t even afford a base Ford Ranger crew or Canyon crew at 30 grand or more. But with no gas fill ups costing $50 + each time and much lower maintenance costs, that will help.
Personally, I think the Hummer EV won’t do very well. Sure there will be some people that LOVE the Hummer, but I dont think the majority of people want a car as big as a Hummer. I’m intrigued but I wouldnt buy a Hummer personally. I’m more interested to see what happens to the CAMARO in the future. As long as the Camaro exists, I will continue subscribing. GIVE US EV CAMARO.
We have no clue how big it is yet. And even so, full-size SUVs like the Tahoe, Expedition and Durango are selling like hotcakes today, so your argument doesn’t hold much weight. If it provides cool offroad options with that removable roof and doors, plus ridiculous power and speed, all matched with utility and good looks, it’ll sell.
Yea I guess…. if it’s made to be the same size as the previous H3 Hummer, it wouldn’t be as bad. But those H2 Hummers from back in the days WERE FREAKIN HUGE. And I don’t think a lot of people want a car that big.
Yeah, I agree with that. But I really don’t see it being H2-sized…the body of that thing was stretched to the ABSOLUTE LIMITS of the platform it rode on, so it looked like a concept car lol. Kind of cartoonish even, but some people loved the character. If it’s sized closer to the H3 (and I think it will be), it’ll be around the size of the Tahoe, and with all the many extra things the Tahoe doesn’t have that the Hummer will…it should sell well.
The Hummer will be built on a modified full size truck chassis just like the H2 was. The Tahoe is also on that chassis. The wheelbase is variable depending on the application.
True. The T1 platform. There will be two wheelbases too, one for the SUT and one for the SUV. It’ll be interesting to see what the truck chassis is sized like.
For some reason, the idea of driving a vehicle in water up to and over your hood with a high-voltage DC power system (I estimate at least 400-550 VDC) makes me a little nervous. However, I do like Porsche’s design philosophy for using 800 VDC for their Panamera hybrid, which should substantially reduce parasitic power loss and allow the use of smaller gauge power conductors thereby reducing weight. Before you say it, 800 VDC does require improved electrical insulation for safety and special training to work on it. However, Porsches are not designed to cross swamps with a 4 foot snorkel coming out of the hood!
I still think the Hummer should be a diesel-hybrid so you can at least get back home after you kill the battery while playing around in the dirt. Out in the wild looking for an AC power plug just does not sound like my idea of fun, not even considering how long it takes recharge enough just to get back to some civilization, or home if you are lucky. Unless you intend to just drive it around town to have “cool looking truck,” I really do not understand the appeal of the new Hummer – regardless of price.
Just who is the target buyer for this vehicle?? I must be missing something from GM’s marketing!
