After months of hype and a decade on the shelf, the Hummer nameplate has returned. General Motors just unveiled the new GMC Hummer EV during a livestream debut event, pulling the sheets on a high-tech, high-powered, and highly capable supertruck.
Outside, the new GMC Hummer EV takes styling cues from its predecessors with a wide, horizontal fascia that reveals the Hummer nameplate in script between the headlamps when illuminated. The stance is tall and wide, with steel underbody armor located around the battery pack for aggressive off-roading strength.
The profile reveals a four-door cab with a short rear bed, while 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires make the traction.
Under the skin is GM’s new EV-dedicated BT1 architecture, which cradles the automaker’s latest Ultium lithium-ion battery technology and Ultium Drive motor technology. Customers can choose from several different powertrains, including a dual-motor and triple-motor setup. The range-topping three-motor model produces over 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, propelling the GMC Hummer EV to 60 mph in just three seconds. Lower in the lineup, output levels include 625-horsepower and 800-horsepower models.
The new GMC Hummer EV is quick on pavement, but it’s also quite capable off-road, with a long list of features to help it conquer just about any terrain, such as Crabwalk Mode with the new four-wheel steering system, and adaptive air suspension. The new Hummer also features removable roof panels and an Open Air Infinity Roof.
Inside the cabin, the GMC Hummer EV comes with a 12.3-inch diagonal digital instrument cluster and 13.4-inch digital infotainment screen. The GM Super Cruise driver assist system is also available.
Production is slated for the GM Factory Zero facility, formerly known as GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan, with the first customer-bound units hitting dealers in the fall of 2021 for the 2022 model year. Pricing for the 250-mile, two-motor Hummer EV2 starts at $79,995, while the two-motor, 300-mile Hummer EV2X starts at $89,995. The three-motor, 300-mile Hummer EV3X starts at $99,995. Finally, the limited-edition Hummer EV Edition 1 starts at $112,595, and comes with three motors and 350 miles of range. Reservations are open now for just $100.

To hell with ‘Hummer is Reborn’ – “GM is reborn!”
Comment of the Year right here. This is simply remarkable.
take another look at that interior. that is hardly remarkable.
for a $113K vehicle, it is remarkably boring.
Why do you want an S Class interior on an offroad truck? That’s like wrapping a chainsaw in leather and carbon fiber. I don’t think you have even the slightest grasp on the kind of vehicle this is, steve.
i’m not saying it should. but for that much money, i’d expect more than a slightly upgraded silverado interior.
Oh, I didn’t know you sat in one…
They followed the Rivian type interior for an adventure truck. It’s meant to take abuse
Reborn? How about back from the grave!
Hummer should be vinned as GMC to eliminate need for new dealers, but behave like a stand alone “premium” brand.
Buick, starting with Avenir trim, should go EV in US, too, aimed right at Tesla. Screw Cadillac, best to have the EVs all under one roof and a collection of GMC Hummers and Buick Avenirs can accomplish it.
Yeah, but I wish a GMC Hummer ICE had also been produced to give customers a choice. Opel now offers each model as ICE petrol, ICE diesel, & EV.
Hummer has AMAZING technology like crab walk that blow Tesla, Jeep and Rover away!
This level of technology throughout the GMC line up would global appeal. Would love seeing Crab Walk find itself in an elevated wagon and sedan, too!
Go ahead and attack me, I know you will.
This doesn’t look very exciting to me. It’s … kind of boring looking. Like it’s 10 years old already.
The similar styling is kind of the point I think. Hummer was discontinued 10 years ago so it hasn’t had 10 years of styling evolution. However, I’d say this is significantly modernized and the interior looks to hit that Land Rover / G-Wagon sweet spot in terms of utilitarian styling, high end materials, and high tech features.
I’m with Andy.
I think it’s incredible how GM was able to cover an entire decade of zero Hummer products, and make the Hummer EV look like the perfect natural progression of that design language. Seems to confirm the rumors that GM has been experimenting with Hummer designs since 2010 to keep the styling fresh for a potential future rebirth.
I think its amazing.
Obama killed off 10 plus years of Hummer profits. Volt and Bolt have made GM zero profit.
GM, not Obama, killed Hummer. Gas prices were insane, we were in a near depression, and only small car makers (Toyota, Honda, VW, BMW) were making money. Sad FIAT got Jeep and Ram because even Hyundai and VW were terrified.
You could argue Obama killed Saturn by trying to force an Opel sale. but the brand moved only 100,000 cheap units yearly.
The Auto Taskforce and Steve Ratner had opinions but thewe were more about transforming GM into Toyota.
how can you put this interior in the same ballpark as a land rover or g wagon? that is not the interior of a $113K vehicle.
do those seats scream high end materials? these are basically the same seats found in a silverado.
Maybe they are, but they are still some of the most comfortable seats I have sat in!
Well they aren’t. Maybe you should wait to judge materials until…I don’t know…you experience them in person? You can tell virtually nothing from online photos in terms of fell and quality, fit and finish and craftsmanship.
Wow this is a nice suv and the tech I can’t wait to have more detail,,,
Nate, I agree 100%. The outside is more or less a facelift of the H3. It’s the interior/suspension/quadrasteer we have all been demanding on a Silverado, wrapped up in a all season tire package. 1000hp, not impressive as they achieve this by adding capacitors for momentary boosts. It’s kinda like adding NOS to an ICE engine, except NOS can be sustained until the tank runs out on a well designed engine, longer than the 3 second sprint. This is really a 300-400 hp engine if we are talking about sustained power. 11000 ft lbs at the wheel? Nothing! That’s what my 09 with the 5.3 and 4 speed makes when floored in low range. The range is pathetic as well. 350 miles in the top model! 10 minutes for a fast charger to get 100 miles?!?!?! That’s good enough to get from LA to sand Diego, but if you not in California, your screwed!! Drive an hour, refill an hour. This is purely about padding their stocks, which is a shame cause besides its performance specs, this is a cool machine! Quadrasteer, 8” of air suspension adjustment, glass roof! Shame, please put this in the real trucks GM!
Teach me how to be a retard like you.
You seem to know a lot for not knowing anything.
Well, considering I am mechanical engineer with specialty in motor technologies and driving dynamics, I know more than 90% of the people who were at the actual on site reveal, and know more than 99% of the entire world on the physical #’s behind any vehicle. Just saying, the numbers on this machine suck, but they do a great job spinning them!
Steven, you got handily ratioed. If you were such a great mechanical engineer with specialty in motor technologies and driving dynamics, GM would have had you design it. You seem a bit sour to be left off the project. You don’t seem to have a very good grasp on the realities of electric vehicle tech, either.
U r also 100 percent full of iy
Not only is it dated It’s a $100K plus mix bag of tricks Dodge Ram / Jeep Grand Wagoneer front end, GMC tailgate, Cadillac Auto Cruise Steering, and the Raptor 3 grill lights in the front and rear roof, it will cost $10k to repair the Suspension if anything going wrong. I’ll pass that the price of 2 Broncos a SUV and Truck haha
Man it must be hard being that retarded. GM showed off the front end of the Hummer EV way before the Jeep Wagonner CONCEPT was revealed. The 3 lights deal isn’t a Raptor design, it’s a DOT design and HD trucks all have them. Lastly, Cadillac is part of GM and so is GMC do yeah supercruise is going to be a feature lmao. Sounds like you’re a kid, go back and do proper research before you post. Gg2ez
those air vents look like they were inspired by the commodore64 1541 floppy drive.
Nerd. Now I see why you have no clue what the purpose of this truck is.
damn right i’m a nerd.
Hey, we need a little of everything and everyone in this world. But then not all of us will understand everything. A great reality of life…
I’m not sure I know what the purpose of this truck is. I certainly wouldn’t go off roading in a $112k truck.
But I guess if you make over $200k a year and don’t care if you screw up your expensive truck, it makes some sense.
Much like you lame comments…boring!
I’m blown away by the design, performance capabilities, engineering technology, and the interior. GM has impressed me with this one! This and the Sierra Denali are by far the two most bad@ss trucks in the market.
Now this is what Im talking about. This is a winner. Now build SUV body type.
Id love to see this in black. Front is great.
SUV body type is most certainly coming.
Coming next year, in fact. It will be revealed sometime in 2021, production begins in late 2022/early 2023 as a 2023 model, per Car and Driver.
That would explain the gaps in the release of the different versions of the truck.
Absolute home run.
And the ball hit the fascia of the third deck…with the bases loaded.
It flew halfway around the world
This is a big deal and great way to resurrect the Hummer brand.
If it can deliver this beast, GM will finally have flagship vehicle #2 alongside the Corvette.
(Sorry — Cadillac’s stuff seems bland in comparison)
The Cadillac Lyriq has more style. This design is almost antiquated. Nothing ground breaking. The original Hummer was a much better design.
2 absolutely different vehicles, one’s for luxury and one’s for off-road, both purposely expensive..
Great work GM, now bring on the Celestiq ..
N400,
I would not say the Lyriq is bland, but the styling is not there for me.
I love the Escala look, especially in the front, but that large black front on the Lyriq is not for me.
We would for sure buy the smaller version of the Lyriq but if all of the new Cadillac SUVs look like China designed fronts, we will buy another brand of EV SUV.
I love the Escala, the CT6 and the CT5 front and rear. I like the XT4 and the front of the CT4 and not the rear, I do not like any of the Cadillac interiors other than the Escalade, Escala, and Lyriq !
Don’t get me wrong. I like a lot of the Cadillac stuff, but the Hummer has far more presence. And I wish the Escala were a real vehicle because that would have been a winner.
Who can afford it? it’s like a quarterback overthrowing all his receivers. 99 percent of GM’S fanbase will not be to afford this. Why can’t we just have a Blazer to compete with Bronco and Wrangler? Why can’t we just get a decent interior and panoramic moonroof in the Sierra to compete with F150, Ram and even Titan?
I really like it. When I am ready for a EV this is something I would consider.
The styling is spot on as part of the Hummer brand heritage is styling. Much like the 911, Jeep and BMW have been using the same styling for decades.
This was the bomb shell that was needed to introduce the Full Electric models at GM. This will draw attention and give them proof of concept. This also will give the ROI at this price point.
They are about $10K more than what I expected but they are in line with what GM would have been selling the Gas Hummers if they had not gone away. Also with the new batteries they should make a profit decent profit at this price.
Now the Hummer can set the stage for Cadillac and now Cadillac has to wow them just as much.
I also hope some of the styling at Hummer could migrate to the entire GMC line. GM did use the square shouldered look at GMC after the Hummer line was cut. Now can they give it a little more edge. That way those who can not afford a Hummer can buy the next best thing. This worked for Pontiac in the 80’s. People were drawn to the dealers for the TA and Fiero but most could not afford the TA or live with two seats. But they could afford and live with a Grand Am that sold like crazy.
This does make the Tesla truck look like it came from Little Tykes.
Finally a good commercial done by GM. It’s like they tried.
It’s supposed to look like a Hummer.
I think this is just Awesome.
I too really like it !
Everything I see, I like !
Is this a certain % concept like the Lyriq, or is this what we see is what we get ?
is it worth $113K to you? i think the exterior looks cool but that interior ….
steve, get over the interior. You must have never seen the interior of a Ford GT. Pricing means nothing, purpose means everything.
This truck looks much more impressive than the Tesla Cyber Truck.
Eric, anything looks better than the Tesla “truck”. A turd on wheels would look better.
I agree. When will Wall Street catch on?
Eric Vest,
I believe Wall Street will catch on when GM executes on any of the great concepts they have brought forth !
GM has been promising greatness for the last ten years now, while offering GM blah to the masses.
Like Cadillac, I am a Cadillac guy, and have been waiting for 30 years now for a Cadillac I would buy, and have bought some, and drive one, but like the Escala concept GM just would not execute !
I do love everything I see here with this Hummer, and way better than the Lyriq.
Its like GM designed the Hummer for the US market and the Lyriq for the China market, and the people like different things.
If GM wants Cadillac to be a hit like I think this will, GM needs a Cadillac for the US market and one for China !
My comment was was primarily on Wall Street’s over enthusiasm for Tesla. Tesla’s Cyber Truck and gull wing SUV look weak to me. The Hummer looks much better than these Tesla products.
First pic, great. Second pic, even better. Third pic, I’m thinking wow. Then the interior and those f—ing screens. I’m now back to whatever. Then I see the prices: $80,000 starting price to over 100 grand? Only morons will buy these, so I’m sure I’ll see them all over LA.
Damn you GM why didn’t you add an updated midgate to just totally kill it ! Super truck indeed…
I’m trying to reserve one and it’s not working any others having problems?
Frozen earlier, working now.
Not working for me either. Edition 1 reservations are full after 15 min.
Why no mention on its abilities to pull and for how many miles before a charge is required. Pretty important factor for those looking to move from conventional to futuristic.
A lot of the information we got is GM targets. We will know more before it’s released in the final months
@Chade: Great point, but do you really think this is going to be built/sold to people who really used a truck as a truck? Not a chance. This is being built for the people who have more money than brains, which will include a ton of people in southern California.
Real truck drivers who actually use them and pull stuff will stick with the F150, Ram and Silverado.
IMO, very impressive. Buy a Wrangler and add these features and you’re going to pay the around same price. Start with a Range Rover or Mercedes add these features and you blow past the highest price by miles…. These features will end up in other models.
I would like to know what the range would be if used to tow but most would pull something more recreational with 4 wheels for deer hunting, off roading, and just for fun…
I also don’t see charging stations in Rockies, Smokies, and by the lakes – yet…
But it’s bad ass…
” how many miles before a charge is required”? It’s all in the article above:
»
«
@Observer7: I think you kind of cherry picked on this one. Chade asked a great question about it’s ” abilities to pull and for how many miles before a charge is required.”
You simply went back to the article and quoted the estimated range they show along with the prices. I’m not seeing where your quoted material (or the article) makes any claims as to the towing and it’s affect on the range. I think that is what Chade was asking and for good reason. It’s a darn truck! But does it matter? I’m sure less than 1% of these sold will EVER go off road or tow anything besides the small jet ski to the lake. After all, this will be way too expensive for the average person who would normally use a truck like a truck.
When it comes to towing efficiency the Hummer will do better than the Cybertruck. Tesla’s trying to make a truck that has a really efficient shape to get better range. Throw a trailer behind it the range drops like a rock. Behind the Hummer the range reduction would be less.
Edition 1 reservations are full….
Got the 3X variant!
Congrats, @Michael!!
The Goodyear Territory tires are used on the TRX. The running boards should fold up. All Hummers are fat pigs that drag their bellies through the mud, the HUMVEE not so much. The GMC Hummer is the eco-friendly mall crawler for rich truck guys. At this point, I’m sticking with my HEMI’S until they go out of production, and hopefully by then someone will be making a true, nice, electric pickup.
Lol, this thing is about to blow your precious TRX out of the sky, my man. It’s cool how the Ram was the most powerful truck in the world for like 5 minutes. Hummer dominates the Ram, period. As it should be.
Will they change the front headlight animation for a production model? Or it will look exactly like this?
Great truck. Like the interior accents that make references to the lunar rover, and the powertrain is a beast.
Cybertruck looks like a ugly duck compared to this.
When they come out with an Electric Sierra/Yukon, I’ll certainly be in line to get one. The only thing stopping me now is the poor mpg for local driving.
Now to kill two birds with one stone. Create a striped version with a LT4 or LT5 for those of us who prefer trucks that have a burble to them.
I think this truck will do well. Hopefully they can get it to 600 miles plus of range in the near future.
Other than that top notch effort by GM. I appreciate an actual interior for an EV. Looking at you Tesla. GM needs to keep this effort up. The recent Escalade and now this are impressive products from GM. Next is what I want the “Blackwings.” I hope the Blackwings receive a lot of love.
They still have the SUV version to show yet along with more detail.
This will be interesting to watch as each new detail arrives. I expect more surprises.
GM already sells thousands of $80k+ Sierra and Yukon Denalis and Escalades and you’re worried about people not affording this lol
LOL dumb comment: There’s a huge difference between a topped out loaded Sierra and Yukon at $80K and a starting price at $80K. Then take discounts/rebates on that loaded $80K Sierra and it’s probably more like a $70K truck (and still wayyyyyyy too expensive). On the flip, the Hummer will probably (at least for the first few months) sell above window sticker for all the weenies who just have to be the first to have one. Once again, more money than brains.
UM HELLO DOES NO ONE WANT TO ADDRESS THE POOR VALUE HERE???? $112k (starting) for the first edition year 2022, the one with the best range, suspension, and speed. 3-4 years later the $79k one with a weak 250mile Range gets released…. in a world where 3-4 years might land the Tesla or Rivian 400-500 miles per charge on their base models…. what is up with that?
Yeah when you add in the fact that this won’t be out for a while, it does seem problematic.
It’s interesting to compare the comments here with those on other sites that aren’t full of GM fans.
I think GM will sell a handful of these, like Hummer in the past, but it’s never going mainstream with an entry price like that.
Maybe. It seems people on Carscoops are smitten with it.
I think the takeaway here is that GM didn’t even bother to tell everyone the starting price and availability on the video. This article doesn’t state much, and I’m assuming a lot of these commenters didn’t bother going to the reserve site to see the starting price and stats. I am saddened that it took GM 5 EXTRA months to release a video, then only to see the price of that truck be as High as a Range Rover or GWagen.
In a world where Tesla is releasing the cyber truck at $60k max, Ford is releasing the Bronco(ICE vehicle but still just as capable as this Hummer EV and probably 200 miles more range), Rivian still yet to show off theirs, it’s scary.
Nevertheless it’s a beautiful truck, but why talk about the ultim battery all this time if it’s practically going to have just as much range if not less than the leading competitor? Unless the goal of the Ultim battery was to charge faster. 350 range just won’t do
The cybertruck is still claiming a $40k starting price, but yeah probably at least $50k.
I’d say the Rivian is a better truck to compare this to though.
Ultium is basically a marketing term. It’s a battery about the same as everyone else has, but with a fancy name. Actually I think that’s kind of smart, especially if they can supply them to other companies.
Is that LeBron James stumbling over the intro?
I’m selling my reservation for the EV2 for 10k, anybody in?
For the base model EV2, coming in 2024? Lol, good luck, dude.
GM exterior design is simply the weakest among all major manufacturers. Have they not seen a Rivian, or a recent Volvo, or the new Bronco? At least the Hummer isn’t as bad as the Silverado or the Camaro refresh, but then again, what is?
The first edition being sold out disagrees with you 😆
I reserved my HEV 3X 😁
No bulletproof glass!!? Not getting one now….
Joke.
So how does this appeal to the majority of customers?
It does appeal as a dream car
Has a definite halo-effect about it too. I see why they decided to tout the ultimate version of this vehicle.
I’m all for the evolution of vehicles and propulsion systems but I’ve never been 100% that EV are the answer. Although it is a hummer, inside and out.
I wanted to wait and think about what my comments would be on this vehicle as I was super excited for the All New EV Hummer. I also watched every video on You Tube I could find.
First off, this is simply AMAZING!!!!
This is what I have been here all these years preaching that GM needs to sweat the Details. Don’t design for a Price point on a Spreadsheet.
The Hummer EV Pickup might be the best overall execution GM has done in my Lifetime.
The Exterior is Bold and modern Hummer as if the Brand had never left us. The Interior is great as well. Uses a little more Plastic down low than I wanted but this will truly be an Off-Road vehicle that people will utilize with money, unlike the majority of Land Rover Range Rover owners. The interior is modern and has modern materials.
The Power-train seems to be pretty good as well but GM is either sandbagging the Range or it simply doesn’t have the Tech that Tesla has. The Cybertruck (different segment and I will touch on it shortly) offers 500 Plus Miles on their Tri-Motor setup.
It uses a short 5 Foot Box so that pretty much tells us this is a so called Off-Road expensive Toy and not meant to compete with most Pickup Trucks.
I absolutely love the Removable Glass Roof Panels. Love that the doors are pillar-less. It looks amazing.
Design wise I don’t think I dislike anything on this vehicle inside and out.
Now for everyone that is comparing this to the Cybertruck…..
These are two completely different segment vehicles. GM is going after the affluent Off-Road customer that also wants the absolute newest in technology.
Cybertruck is going after the middle market of the full size Trucks. Not the lower end so called work Trucks.
The upcoming Silverado EV will have to compete with the Cybertruck not this awesome Hummer Truck. And that is at least two to three years away from all reports.
If I could nit-pick something on the Hummer EV would be the following…I think the center counsel could use some cool and Modern looking Trim. The Black Plastic look doesn’t look that great to me. But if that is all I can complain about that means GM hit a Grand Slam and pretty much just came up with its very own Segment in the Marketplace.
Well done GM Team….Please put this kind of effort to every car that is coming out soon.
Wish I could afford it lol, looks great.
Lets hope some of this tech makes its way to other models. I love the open air concept and hope they can somehow integrate that with the next Colorado/Canyon generation.
I’ve said a lot of things about GM over the years… they’re all true… that said, THIS if its affordable could be a vehicle that attracts folks to EV’s…. All GM vehicles need to be THIS exciting, this unique, this special…. simply wow….
The version with all the fancy stuff will be out next fall for $112,595.
$99,995 version in fall 2022.
$89,995 version in spring 2023.
$79,995 version in spring 2024.
Looks cool – very cool!!!!
The profit margins are probably huge given the stunning $80-112,000 price tag, but this will sell in very limited numbers with that kind of price tag.
I ask, is this where GM is spending it’s resources? Yeah again it will make money. I wonder here, GM spends millions on a truck that will sell a couple thousand units annually but it can’t develop a decent auto to rival the imports in the compact and midsize segments. Come on GM get your priorities in line.
Something to aspire to for the tech alone plus the package is genuinely attractive. Hard to figure the relative value of things these days. The projected cost of the Hummer SuperTruck is roughly three times what my wife and I paid for a new three bedroom raised ranch home w/ full basement in October of ’78. Yeah, i don’t get the relative value of things.
Can we have an electric Avalanche also??
IMHO, a lot of the hate is coming from those who have jobs in the oil industry. My neighbor has a son in the oil fields and she had a fit when her neighbor bought an EV. Overall I am very impressed with GMs commitment to EV and I think the new hummer will be a winner
I can’t stop looking at it, its beautiful. A good start for the future of electric GM trucks.
The price is on the high side, but Hummer fans have put their vote of approval on it.
I might have liked that they offer a cost-reduced 2wd version, but that is just me. Seems like it will do well. I’m sure others agree that for the sub $100,000 models it will be a pretty long wait before they can purchase one. I don’t think they will be able to continue saying they are the ‘first’ if its 3 1/2 years before you can buy one…. The competition isn’t standing still.
But it appears on the plus side that many will wait for it.
The new GMC Hummer looks to have everything a next generation truck should have; but one thing we need to remember is that electricity is still mostly generated from using fossil fuel like oil/coal/natural gas which means while the Hummer EV generates no harmful exhaust, the Hummer EV still has a carbon footprint as it is the amount of electricity that needs to be generated to recharge the vehicle’s battery.
True, but that carbon footprint can change over time with adoption of solar and wind power by the power companies — without having to trade in the vehicle.
Was worth the wait to see the permer love it ,hope it gets a mid gate so can have a 6′ bed.How much battery is used doing the extream off road raise lower the air suspension . Maybe as more EV off-roading is going to be more charge locations away from the city’s. Stole the show from bronco price is ok at the low end .all the first ones are reserved .like the bronco frist ed many will be flipped at well over msrp like most just wait all the rich kids can fight over the first ones wait to see what other models are coming jeep it’s your turn I lost interest in your new grand wagoners I have no interest in it
Over a 100 grand!!! Well that’s realistically attainable.
I like the Hummer. IMO, this is an outdoors experience EV at its best for a generation 1 model. Exterior and interior were designed to give the operator an opportunity to experience a way to explore the landscape first hand in an EV. The interior is not for grocery getters or for those who desire a 150k Porsche or Lamborghini SUV wow interior, which I think what I’m reading by some in this post. Off road parts are more expensive than black top highway parts, foundational designs for off road require more in depth in rigidity and materials …the tires alone are more than some make a month…
Same for interior, made for outdoor activities that come with rough activities. Wipe mud off, wipe gravel dust, wipe dirt dust off on a Porsche or Lamborghini SUV that cost 150k
No thanks… those European exotics have no place where the Hummer is designed to go for more money .
This is generation 1 and I’m sure more designed tricks are developed and be developed.
Someone mentioned Jeep GC and Wagoneer, not EVEN in the same class.
