General Motors’ next-generation full-size SUV lineup, which includes the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, and 2021 GMC Yukon, offers loads of rear cargo room, providing customers with all the space expected of the segment. In addition, the three SUVs listed here come with something called a “Cargo Management System” as standard equipment. But what exactly is a Cargo Management System, and what does it provide?
According to General Motors, the Cargo Management System in the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, and 2021 GMC Yukon is designed to provide three things.
First, it “organizes the items in the rear cargo hold to help keep it neat.” Second, it “allows you to secure cargo to help prevent items from shifting while you’re driving,” and finally, “it includes movable dividers that adjust the size of the storage areas.”
However, some owners of the three SUVs listed above have asked GM Authority for clarification, as nothing in the back of the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, or 2021 GMC Yukon fit that official description. As such, we reached out to General Motors for a clearer picture of what the Cargo Management System truly has to offer.
According to the automaker, the first two features (“organizes the items in the rear cargo hold to help keep it neat,” and “allows you to secure cargo to help prevent items from shifting while you’re driving”) pertain to the underfloor storage area located behind the third-row seats. However, GM also says that the third feature (“it includes movable dividers that adjust the size of the storage areas”) was erroneously included in the description, and does not actually pertain to the Cargo Management System for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, and 2021 GMC Yukon.

least they could do is ensure that their sales/marketing information is correct & accurate before they release it instead of having you guys catch their misstatement!
Well if not included then GM should get the hint of designing some and the sliding rails for cargo shifting while driving. I’m sure others will get the hint and make for owners to install in their rides…
I have a 2002 and a 2020 Suburban. The 2020 cargo area suffers because of the seat storage design. The rear hatch door is about 5″ shorter vertically than the 02 hatch. The floor made by second row seats is not very flat and the whole floor is slopping towsrds the rear. I have under floor storage in my ML350 and hardly ever use it because i always have something on top of it. The 02 seat design is much better even with the very heavy 3rd row seat. At least when i needed big flat cargo area, it could be created.
I have owned 1985 & 1995 Suburbans, 2003 Yukon XL, and currently own a 2005 Suburban with 8.1L. The Suburban is the best platform for towing, carrying people and items under cover. I am excited about the 2021. TFL Truck’s review of truck was impressive. All that said, if the Cargo Management System is limited to that under floor storage area, it appears overstated. I carry a 60 pound toolbox and various hitches, tow straps, tools, saws, etc. that would would be great to organize into compartments behind the wheel wells instead of boxes and bags that I use that would need to be moved to access the under floor storage.
I would’ve loved to see GM take the Cargo system from the XT5 and implement it in the new SUVs.
They are brand specific so you can’t get the same or near.
I own a 2021 GMC Yukon Denali. The rear floor with the seats folded is much flatter than my 2015. The only issue I have is that the hatch for the cargo storage area behind the rear seats, while larger, does not stay open very well. I am planning to take the vehicle to the dealer to see if the hinges can be tightened somehow. Otherwise, the folding seats are much better, fold flatter and lock into place.
My 2021 vehicle description mentions featuring the Cargo Management system as standard equipment. This seems to imply the under rear deck cargo storage as available and there is mention of a separator that should come with the vehicle at purchase. I did not receive one of those with my New Tahoe. They should be provided with that feature if not from the factory then perhaps by the dealership.
I contacted the dealership about the missing equipment. Very disappointed to find out Chevrolet mislead customers. I think they should provide a Collapsible Cargo Organizer to all customers who have an issue with the false advertising.
I was so disappointed when I found out this cargo management system was what is under the floor of my 2031 suburban. It’s about deep enough to maybe have a book there. It is ridiculous. My Buick Enclave had so much space under the floor. This isn’t good for anything. And no spacers. Big time false advertising. Not happy Chevy
My 2021 tahoe high country deluxe, I’m as disappointed as the other, no dividers, under floor useless storage area. And no cargo shade for the price. Very disappointed!
