How The GMC Hummer EV Compares To The F-150 Raptor, Ram 1500 TRX

General Motors just unveiled the 2022 GMC Hummer EV last week, ushering in a new era of all-electric off-road awesomeness. And although the Hummer is powered exclusively by batteries, its specs look to rival (and even beat) those of established internal-combustion-powered off-roaders like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX.

Looking over the numbers, some of the specs between these three vehicles look surprisingly similar. For example, with the GMC Hummer EV suspension set in Extract Mode, water fording depth is 32 inches across the board. Front suspension travel is also 13 inches for all three, and breakover angle is around 22 degrees with the Hummer in standard settings. Max ground clearance is around 11.5 inches for all three with the Hummer in Terrain Mode, and maximum vehicle width without the mirrors is around 87 inches to accommodate those beefy tires.

However, the GMC Hummer EV also beats the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX in multiple areas as well. For example, Ground Clearance increases to 15.9 inches with the Hummer EV in Extract Mode, while approach angle is an impressive 49.7 degrees compared to the Raptor and Ram’s 30.2 degrees. Departure angle is also much better in the Hummer EV with Extract Mode, set at 38.4 degrees compared to the Raptor’s 23 degrees and the Ram’s 23.5 degrees.

Then, of course, we have the raw power and torque figures. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 comes with three electric motors that spit out a total of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. Granted, the torque figure comes with an explanation, but regardless, a claimed sprint to 60 mph in three seconds proves just how powerful the Hummer EV really is.

By comparison, the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor produces just 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, while the Ram 1500 TRX produces 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, with the sprint to 60 accomplished in 5.2 seconds and 4.5 seconds, respectively.

Naturally, it bears mentioning just how much more expensive the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is when lined up against the Raptor and Ram, priced at $112,595 to the Raptor’s base price of $58,135 and the Ram’s base price of $71,690.

That said, when it comes to off-roading specs, the GMC Hummer EV not only rivals these two – it beats them.

  1. Even though I am a GM guy through and through, the Hummer costs almost twice as much as the Raptor and ~$45k more than the TRX. IMHO, there is no real comparison here. Sorry guys.

      1. Correct. It is shown directly above and on multiple websites since it’s unveil. The Hummer Edition 1 has been said to cost ~$113k.

    2. Why are you comparing base pricing for Ford and Ram to loaded Hummer pricing? Nothing logical about that.

      A loaded TRX exceeds $90k and doesn’t have all the features that you’ll find on the Hummer. The next Raptor with the supercharged V8 will likely exceed $90k as well. And neither will perform as well as the Hummer.

      Additionally, the Ford and Ram have models that start under $30k. Then they want to charge $60k more for higher trims? At least with Hummer you’re getting some exclusivity.

      1. GM Authority decided to compare these three trucks, not me. Ask them why they chose to do the comparison of these three trucks, one of which costs significantly more than the other two.

        I look at it in terms of racing: Someone instructs you and two other guys to each build a 1/4 mile car. Guy A is permitted to use $100k, Guy B is permitted to use $75k and you are permitted to use $50k. CHANCES ARE QUITE GOOD THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE TOO HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.

        1. Those asking why a $100K+ Hummer EV pickup is being compared to the Raptor and TRX are forgetting that price is not a limiting factor for most Raptor and TRX buyers. These people want the ultimate truck and are willing to pay big money for it. Most Raptors sell for around $80K, so the Hummer Edition 1 is very much in the wheelhouse of the rivals. That’s especially the case when you look at the more base-level models.

      3. There’s even less Logic to it because the Hummer EV is not even on the market. By the time it shows up 2 things will happen 1st you want be able to find a 2022 Hummer EV for $112k add about $10k to that and 2nd the Ford F150 EV will also be coming to market we don’t know any of the numbers on that truck yet. GMC should have shown the Hummer EV but hold off on the numbers closer to release date

        1. Really Roy? Ford? Ford hasn’t launched a vehicle on time for 3 years now. It has zero experience in EVs except for the disaster roll out that is the Mach-E. I have zero faith in the F-150 EV especially compared to anything that GM does. GM has been working on Ultium and EV strategy for a decade. Ford has no EV strategy to speak of except for a one-off car here and there. Ford is playing catch up and the F-150 EV will not surprise. It’s a bit sad but true.

    3. you also have to keep in mind that ALL ELECTRIC VEHICLES are going to be more expensive than a combustion engine vehicle. For example the cheapest EV from GM right now is the BOLT EV (which costs about $45-$50k CAD, the same price as a Camaro SS).

    4. 1000 hp and 3 seconds 0 to 60, augmented reality, super cruise, crabwalk, targa roof… zero gas cost, minimal maintenance cost… yeah you dam right, there’s NO comparison. Sorry dude.

      1. Are you sure? I don’t see a minimal maintenance cost with a Electrical Suspension anything malfunctions that can cost $1000s.

    5. When the 2 motor version is released in 22 and 23 the price will start around 72k according to GM (we’ll see). It will be more comparable in price and a more even comparison. Customers buying Raptors are paying well into the high 60’s. Price is relatively inelastic in this upper segment, buyers are routinely looking for trucks approaching 100k. It shouldn’t be a problem for GM to compete in this segment.

  2. First off this is like comparing alcohol.

    The Raptor is PBR, TRX is moonshine, the Hummer higher end Bourbon. So while similar all three are very different.

    As for price why is it everyone uses the base price of the Raptor when most on dealer lots are $75,000 to $80,000 and dealers generally do not come off the price often.

    Price they are close and with the second level the prices are about the same.

    There are not a ton of options on the Hummer you just buy the level you want or can afford.

    I know many will try to compare but each has an acquired taste and the Hummer a much different mission.

    In fact the dinosaur names are fitting here as these two are the last of their kind while the Hummer is the future.

  3. Just think of how many more GM could sell if it had hybrid option. I think this will be a toy for the rich, and range anxiety will keep most buyers from taking it off road.

    1. Agree, smart play would be to include a small range extender. Ford is working on one for the upcoming F-150 EV.

      The problem with EV range is, it varies so greatly. The weather (outside temp.), tire pressure and climate control settings are 3 factors that have relatively little effect on ICE vehicles, but can have a big effect on EV range. Having driven a Volt for 2+ years and 35K, the ideal is approximately, no A/C or heat on, speed max about 55-60 and tires at about 42 psi.

  4. How can any of the Hummer figures be accepted as fact when GM itself admits they haven’t yet built a working prototype, all they have shown is cgi and stationary models. Don’t get me wrong I love the truck and really want to see GM succeed with it
