GM China Sales Increase 12 Percent In Third Quarter 2020

GM China sales increased 12 percent to 771,400 units during the third quarter of 2020. The results represent the first increase in sales volume thus far in the 2020 calendar year, which has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales increased at Buick, Cadillac and Wuling, while decreasing at Chevrolet and Baojun.

Though General Motors does not provide individual sales performance of sales in China, we do have the following information.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q3 2020

Third-quarter 2020 sales results at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac operations – increased 13.5 percent to 394,800 units:

Buick sales increased 26.3 percent to 252,100 units

Chevrolet sales decreased 20 percent to 77,500 units

Cadillac sales increased 27.7 percent to 65,200 units

  • The Cadillac SUV portfolio, which encompasses the XT4, XT5 and XT6, posted steady growth, with collective sales of more than 40,000 units
  • In July, Cadillac brought its Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving service to China

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q3 2020

Third-quarter 2020 sales results at SAIC-GM-Wuling – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – increased 10.3 percent to 376,700 units:

Baojun sales decreased 18.6 percent to 100,100 units

  • The brand sustained its leading position in commercial vehicles
  • Baojun now has four EV models – the E100, E200, E300 and E300 Plus – which collectively reached over 10,000 sales during the third quarter

Wuling sales increased 26.3 percent to 276,600 units

During the first nine months of 2020 calendar year, GM China sales decreased 22 percent to 1,946,716 units.

  1. get out of communist china ,,assemble the product in the USA . get our workers back to work . here’s an idea –if American workers are back to work making money possible they would be able to purchase one of your vehicles ,,what a concept,,

    1. Today’s China is as far from communism as Pluto is from earth. You are simply mis-informed bordering on ignorant if you think otherwise.

      What logical business reason is there to “get out of China”? GM sells a ton of cars there and makes a pretty penny. The cars made in China are for the Chinese market (Buick Envision notwithstanding) so it has zero impact on GM’s U.S. business.

      Also, American workers ARE already back to work, making money. Unfortunately, American workers buy Toyotas and Hondas and Nissans. But hey, maybe Japan should tell those three Japanese automakers to “get our of racist America”?!
