General Motors Files To Trademark ‘Extract Mode’, Likely For GMC Hummer EV

General Motors has filed to trademark the term ‘Extract Mode’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which could the name of a new, unknown feature upcoming GMC Hummer EV.

Interestingly, this wordmark will be used to refer to “electronic suspension control systems for motor land vehicles,” the trademark filing indicates. It’s not clear what Extract Mode is exactly, however the name and description give us an indication of what it could be used for.

Seeing as it is called ‘Extract Mode’, we could see this being a drive mode that automatically adjusts the vehicle’s suspension for either intense off-roading or towing. As HummerNation.com points out, which was the first publication to report on this filing, the drive mode could for “extracting” other vehicles when they are stuck in the mud, for example. Suspension height, stiffness and other such parameters can be extremely important for towing, so it would be helpful to have a dedicated mode for it that negates the need for the driver to adjust the air suspension settings themselves.

Extract Mode may join the already confirmed Crab Mode for the GMC Hummer EV. Crab Mode allows all four of the electric vehicle’s wheels to point in the same direction, allowing it to “crawl” across a slippery or low grip surface. This could be helpful when off-roading, giving the driver yet another tool to help get them over rough or slippery terrain.

The GMC Hummer EV will debut in SUT (Sport Utility Truck) form on October 20th, 2020. GM will eventually introduce an SUV variant of the full-size electric vehicle, though it is expected to debut after the pickup.

The Hummer EV will be available with a one- two- or three-motor powertrain setup, with the tri-motor version making over 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph time of three seconds flat. The truck will ride on the automaker’s new BT1 electric platform, which is a version of the existing T1 truck platform for battery-electric applications and will be built at GM’s new Factory Zero plant (formerly Detroit-Hamtramck) in Metro Detroit.

  2. So pumped for the reveal tomorrow, 10 long months and the day is finally upon us! The ad blitz and social media barrage for this thing has been immense…I heard Phil Brooks of GMC say that they expect 80% of American adults to see their Hummer reveal video or short film ad by week’s end.

  3. I have been excited to see and hear about this vehicle for months. I would be interested in picking one up as a daily driver if GM can keep the price reasonable. I certainly hope that they are able to achieve it.

    1. They have kept it very well under wraps. It’s kind of scary in this day and age you can keep a car hidden, yet be done with the development of it since they’re building out a factory to build it.

  5. Why wouldn’t it be the feature that Toyota has for their Tacoma’s that help get it unstuck out of sand traps?

  6. Maybe it is similar to the bounce mode that some new Mercedes SUV’s have that bounces the air suspension up and down to help get it unstuck.

  7. So many fact errors in this report. Anyone that understands basic specs realizes there is no way the hummer has 11500 lb/ft of torque. no way it has 12 times more torque than the tesla or a cummins turbo diesel. It should be 11500 in/lbs
