The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales maintained the negative trend by registering a significant contraction in September. The performance represents the sixth consecutive month of sales declines for Chevy in the Brazilian market.

The decline caused Chevrolet to fall to third place in new car sales in Brazil, after being overtaken by Fiat and Volkswagen during the past month. That chain of events, in turn, caused it to lose its leadership position for the first time in nine months of 2020. During that timeframe, the Bow Tie brand sold 223,057 units vs. Volkswagen’s 223,786 deliveries.

Despite the poor overall performance and the fact that seven models saw significant declines in sales volume during September, the increases in all of the brand’s utility vehicles as well as the Chevrolet S10 stand out as bright spots.

For instance, the all-new Tracker was again the best-selling utility in Brazil, setting a new record of 6,403 deliveries during the month and surpassing the 6,070 deliveries it saw in July. Meanwhile, the S10 midsize pickup truck posted a healthy increase after suffering eight consecutive months of declines. We attribute the uptick to the healthy public reception of the refreshed 2021 model.
