Following the introduction of an all-new fourth generation for the 2019 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is set to receive a refresh for the 2022 model year, which will include revised exterior styling and an updated interior. The upcoming refresh will also apply to the off-road-ready 2022 Silverado Trail Boss, a prototype of which was recently spotted on public roads undergoing a bit of real-world testing.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the 2022 Silverado Trail Boss out and about. Just last month, we saw the refreshed off-roader covered in heavy camo sporting a set of multi-colored wheels with a new six-spoke design. This latest prototype appears to have the same rollers.
Wrapped in aggressive Goodyear Wrangler rubber, these new wheels differ from those on the current Silverado Trail Boss, which offers 18-inch High gloss Black painted aluminum wheels (RPO code RD1) as standard, and 20-inch Black painted aluminum wheels (RPO code RD5) as an available option.
Further indications that this is indeed the 2022 Silverado Trail Boss include the elevated ride height and a set of red tow hooks low in the front fascia.
As GM Authority was the first to report, the latest Chevy Silverado comes with the Multi-Flex tailgate feature, which operates just like the MultiPro tailgate equipped on the Silverado’s corporate cousin, the GMC Sierra, with six different configurable positions to enhance the tailgate’s functionality.
Back in February, GM Authority was the first to report on interior updates slated for the 2022 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. The upcoming interior enhancements will be focused primarily on mid- and high-end trim levels, although all models will likely benefit. The Silverado HD and Sierra HD will also follow suit with interior upgrades roughly a year after the Silverado and Sierra 1500 models.

Why would they include a chin spoiler on a trail boss? Not well thought out.
still need to obtain best possible MPG rating.
If they do like they do on the updated Colorado and make it easily removeable for off roading no big deal. 95% of these will never see dirt so its best to have it there for MPG.
Very well thought out. They can claim better mpg and the owner can take it off in about 3 minutes if he doesn’t like it.
Still nothing that can compete with what Ford and Dodge are putting out. Get away from the Rancho stuff and put something that is good for off-road. Stop putting painted black front bumpers instead of a decent skid plate with good approach angle.
This competes with the Rebel, not the TRX. They’re making a ZR2 Silverado for the Halo.
Bryan lets let them finish this before we get to put out on this.
Second it is not going to be a $75K truck that sells in limited numbers. This is more a truck that will be more able and still sell at a reasonable price in higher volumes with much higher profit returns.
The Formula works amazingly well on the Colorado ZR2.
Also factor in most truck buyers like to modify with their own parts as the truck and jeep segment has eclipsed the Camaro and Mustang modifications today. The aftermarket parts market is dominated by truck parts today.
I notice the tire appears to be bigger, probably 275/70r18. No longer tiny 32″ tires on the lifted off road truck. I assume they will ditch the 3.23 for 3.42 on this model as well, to make up for it.
Also, that’s a 4+ overload leaf rear pack vs the normal 2 plus overload leaf. Maybe they’re ditching the 2″ lift block for this. Would be another improvement, a big one.
Maybe this is the ZR2?
No Dssv “This is the WAY!”
Electronic activated locking Differentials?? Power increase would be nice.
Is that white or a light gray? Hoping it is light gray – very trend color right now. GM is usually good with offering a wide range of colors, but a lot of time those colors are questionable at best and have low take rates.
Yeah I was noticing that color too, I like it
As long as the fender “gills” are gone I’m happy. Like the new wheel design. Could it possibly be getting different rear sheet metal too?
Those wheels look a lot like the Colorado ZR2 wheel
I’m having a hard time seeing any pics of the shocks or front struts. I hope this is the TB as the tire and rear spring changes are pretty nice. Hopefully all the trucks see more leafs (smaller) for a smoother ride. There is a nice space between the leafs and the overload too, my 18 about rides on the overload.
This truck hits a very sweet spot. A lot of buyers want a truck that is more aggressive than the standard 1500, but dont want or need a Raptor/TRX pimped out pickup. I don’t blame them, the low slung regular 1500’s are not very off road ready, even with the Z71 package. They look like every other 1500. The Trail Boss sits up higher, bigger tires, more off road equipped at a price that is more reachable to more buyers. The fact that 20% of buyers select the Trail Boss speaks to how many buyers want to separate their 1500 from others and you can still hook a trailer to it and do truck stuff. Whether it sees dirt or not, it looks and ACTS the part without killing the budget.
