The 2022 GMC Hummer EV made its official debut this week, arriving with an available 1,000 horsepower tri-motor powertrain, four-wheel-steering, adaptive air suspension and other impressive features that will help it compete with offerings like the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck. We also learned all about the new battery-electric pickup’s exterior dimensions this week, which indicate the truck is a bit stubbier than a comparable light-duty truck, but also quite a bit wider.
The GMC Hummer EV pickup has a wheelbase of 135.6 inches and a total length of 216.8 inches. This makes it shorter length-wise than a, GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Short Box, which has a wheelbase of 147.4 inches and overall length 231.7 inches.
While the Hummer EV pickup isn’t quite as long as a light-duty Crew Cab pickup, it’s notably wider. A GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Short Box is 81.2 inches wide (not including the side mirrors) and GMC Hummer EV SUT is 86.7 inches wide without the side mirrors.
Standard Settings | Terrain Mode | Extract Mode | |

Suspension travel f/r (in. / mm) | 13.0 / 330 | 13.0 / 330 | - |
The Hummer EV pickup’s ground clearance with the regular suspension setting activated is 10.1 inches, far outclassing the 7.8-inch maximum ground clearance of the Sierra 1500. With Terrain Mode activated, the Hummer’s ground clearance grows to a significant 11.9 inches. Models equipped with the optional Extract Mode setting, which lifts the suspension by up to eight inches when activated, have a maximum ground clearance of 15.9 inches. The truck’s approach, departure, breakover and climbing angles also grow significantly when Terrain Mode and Extract Mode are activated, as we can see in the chart embedded above.
The 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup is shorter than a full-size light-duty pickup and is also stubbier than the GMC Canyon Crew Cab midsize truck as well. However, the pickup is significantly wider than either the Sierra or Canyon, contributing to its off-road prowess. Customers looking to haul wood or other large items may appreciate the additional bed space offered by something like a Sierra, but the GMC Hummer EV sets itself apart with its wide-set macho stance and go-anywhere capability – in addition to its innovative electric powertrain, of course.

You have to wonder how many will forget to lower the vehicle before pulling into the garage?
Well the big question they didn’t bother listing was the height of the vehicle in normal height mode….
Great point. How high is it? At the highest extended height?
The Hummer EV Edition 1 is just plain COOL … man!!! I always wanted a hummer, but thought about the gas bills. Then I saw 4-wheel steering on a Jeep prototype and thought that would be cool on a Hummer. Then I saw a red Hummer H2 that had a custom convertible job done on it. Wow, that was cool too.
Now we got a gas-free, 4-wheel steering, convertible Hummer! All hail GM, you got big b..lls!!!
WTF actually stands for … , but we won’t go there!
I hope GM increases the 2021 production number as I, along with many thousands of others, want to get on the list real bad. In the meantime, let’s keep on Hummin!
Understand pricing is around 100k ,,good job ,, how long will it take for GM to make a profit .. this is a price range were mostly every American can afford or even have the need .. Thinking personal needs a complete turnover
They’ll be making a profit on the first ones they sell, according to Ruess. This isn’t an everyman’s vehicle, this is a halo off-road monster. And considering you can get something like a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for $100k (hell, the Ram Rebel TRZ goes up to $100k) with all the tech and features of this, it seems appropriate.
I afraid the EV Hummer will follow the Cadillac ELR into extinction. Who is going to buy an overpriced electric Hummer? This a classic case of producing a product nobody asked for. In five years this vehicle will no longer be around. They will never find more than 5000 customers a year for this vehicle. GM would be better off selling 18000 Cruzes a year. It all come down to economy of scale.
Your math is slightly off……Corvettes sales are about 25,000 annually, and Cadillac Escalades are about 20,000 annually…..
This vehicle will compete against the likes of Mercedes G Class, which only sells about 7k a year.
This Hummer will sell, as evident by the online reservations being sold out in 10 minutes for the first year model.
I don’t see GM seeing a market of only 5000 units and not making good profit….this is a niche market and GM knows it.
I cannot afford it…..
This is the future….most new cars will be electric in 6 years….this vehicle is so versatile that it can be what ever the owner wants it to be, from towing your boat or camper to doing some home remodeling running to Lowe’s. Then taking it to Baja…..it’s also great looking, (I am not a fan of how the Jeep pick up looks at all) however this looks great ..I love the removable roof panels.
The ELR was a great looking car. The problem was performance wise it was barely better than the Volt which was $30k less. Can you name another ICE truck that has the performance, features and abilities of Hummer EV? Other EV trucks might have similar features but none announced so far has all the Hummers feature set.
Akear I think you may have mistaken this for what it was never meant to be.
This is no different than the first Hummer. It is intended for high end buyers with disposable income and no most will not off road it.
The whole idea is to sell these in low volume at prices that will return not just a profit but a faster return on investment that will lead to lower priced EV models for the main stream.
The same parts used here as the Batteries and motors will find their way to Cadillac and then Chevy. You will see EV trucks due to this at Chevy at the same price as a ICE model. It is possible this could even lead to cheaper versions.
The problem was GM could have made a $100,000 Suburban EV but few would have bought it and the media would not have paid much attention as it would have very little excrement around it.
This is all about Media and ROI.
Now I would not be shocked later smaller and less expensive Hummers find their way to market.
This vehicle was like many high end vehicles and not meant to be in every garage.
The first Hummer died mostly because GM ran out of money. They needed new and smaller models but had nothing to design or build them with. Heck they had no money to defend them from the Tree Huggers in the media. That is not even a problem this time around.
Head to Hollywood. They’ll sell there to every celebrity who needs to make a statement about how much they care about the planet. And in cities across America, they’ll sell to like-minded folks who’ll feel really good about themselves cruising around on paved roads in at 5,000 pound off-road vehicle just because they plugged it in.
What is the height?
It is adjustable. Air springs.
The rams are adjustable and they listed their ride height lol. Why didn’t they do it here?
Because it isn’t set in stone yet.
Hummer is way to wide for a lot of serious off roading.
GM really messed up when using the Blazer name for a cuv made in Mexico. Should have built a competitor for the Bronco and Wrangler.
I don’t think that if GM wanted to build an SUV to compete with the Wrangler, that using the Blazer name for a crossover is going to stop them from doing it.
Andrew is right, this isn’t a Wrangler fighter. This is a high-end electric off-roader that will set the standard in EV off-roading and will be priced in a way to make GM tons of cash for future electric products. And the truck isn’t as big as you think, either.
This is an awesome vehicle……obviously GM has a “small target” customer base for this and I am sure that base will gobble these up.
Just wonder how many will actually drive it off road?
If I had that kind of cash, I would own one myself……..oh well, still a great looking vehicle and feature rich ride.
Anyone have an idea what type of material the truck box is made out of? It looks like a spray-in, but possibly some type of composite?
I would say it is the carbon bed GMC has.
@C8.R
That would be sweet.
I am however surprised that we did not see a so called Trunk in the Bed like other EV Pickups have shown.
Maybe I just missed it.
Might not be needed, considering how big the Frunk is going to be.
It that this answers your question, but I am glad they put in removable slots in the bed to service the air springs if needed.
How much does it weigh? Reports are GM has been mum on that specification.
It seems to me that EV or not, if the thing weighs 5,000+ pounds, as I would guess (Tesla Model X weighs 5,500 and Hummer H2 weighed 6,600), it is still very inefficient as a transportation device. In order to move a person from Point A to Point B, which is all it will be doing most of the time, it will be consuming significant amounts of energy. That energy will not be created onboard by an internal combustion engine burning gasoline but rather created by a massive powerplant somewhere and then sent over the electrical grid and stored in a battery pack to enable it to move. If the Hummer EV is huge and heavy, it will need to extract more energy from that power grid for it’s propulsion than, say, a Bolt EV.
In my state, I think about 73 percent of our energy production that powers the electrical grid comes from fossil fuels so a Hummer EV, operated in Georgia, would still be consuming significant amounts of energy for motivation and nearly three-quarters of that energy would still be generated by fossil fuels. I would wonder therefore whether a gas powered Chevrolet Sonic, which GM just dropped, and weighs in at only 2,800 pounds wouldn’t have less of an environmental impact than the Hummer EV.
I know the Hummer EV will be all the rage amongst the folks that like to feel good about saving the planet but in the final analysis, will it actually be that helpful? GM’s new approach to EVs seems to be that they can ignore size and efficiency considerations because an EV gives them an excuse or license to go back to building enormous and inefficient vehicles. I understand Cellistiq is also massive. I would like to see an environmental impact analysis for the Hummer EV and see it compared to a Sonic or the Bolt EV. It seems to me that the folks who care about climate change and will buy the Hummer for that reason may not actually be helping matters at all; nor is GM.
Hermano tienes razón desde el punto de vista de el impacto ambiental pero , no es lo mismo andar en un sonic que básicamente es una patinete con motor que andar en un monstruo que es este Hammer,
Translation:
Brother you are right from the point of view of the environmental impact but, it is not the same to ride a Sonic that is basically a motor scooter than to ride a monster that is this Hummer.
Jackson,
I agree completely. My only point is that if people truly care about the planet and truly want to save it, a Hummer EV is likely not helping much. It’s too big and too heavy. It’s symbolism over substance. I would venture to say that a Sonic would be more environmentally friendly, even with its onboard gasoline energy generation system.
Folks assume that if a vehicle is an EV and there are no tailpipe emissions then it must be clean but if the power it consumes still comes from fossil fuels, it seems to me that it still contributes to the problem. Small, lightweight electric vehicles help but a gigantic off-road vehicle likely does not. That’s not to say that I don’t like the Hummer EV. GM seems to have done a good job with it. I just don’t think it, or the 5,500 pound Tesla Model X are really the greenie vehicles folks want to think they are.
environmental impact can still be much lower especially when it comes to local. The More EVs in a location the less air pollution in the local environment regardless on what you think may be charging it.
Isn’t it called Global Warming? As in happening on a global basis? I understand your point that EVs move the emissions away from crowded cities to the outskirts of town where power generation occurs from natural gas or coal-fired powerplants. That may help reduce smog in Los Angeles but does it help the planet. I’m not a scientist so I don’t know but it seems to me it doesn’t.
The track we were on before to downsize cars and make them all small and efficient and clean- burning seems to me to be more helpful than creating gigantic 5,500 pound EVs. Granted nobody wanted those tiny 1.0 L 3-cylinder Ford Fiestas but weighing-in at only 2,500 pounds, it was a pretty efficient, and clean, way of getting us from Point A to Point B.
There have been studies forecasting what increases in pollution EVs would have on power generation and it came out as negligible. Especially so when Charging happens over night in off peak times.
Where do you think ALL EV vehicles get their energy? Probably 99% come from coal burning power plants (you know like all the Tesla’s). The fact that anyone thinks that EV Vehicles are green is a bunch of BS! Factor in the cost and energy it takes just to produce their Lithium batteries is enough to out weigh any green factor. You are buying into the BS that the government is selling you about what is considered green. Wind Mills and solar all live under the umbrella of fossil fuels. That is, we could not exist solely on them, they are not a 24/7 source of energy.
LOLOLOLOL you realize that only 20% of the US grid is Coal right? Also that the EVs are still considerably less pollutant than ICE cars even if they get their energy from coal.
As for Wind Farms and Solar, they work completely fine and their energy can be stored for use later, it isn’t all used during the day.

it gives you the Carbon count of every car, and tells you it’s impact. It’s you who is buying into the nonsense that EVs aren’t as clean as they are.
Hi Meh, my comment does not change the fact that I have reserved a Hummer EV3 and cannot wait to have one sitting in my garage! Sorry, but I have to disagree, the wind does not always blow and the sun is not always shining. Store what you may from these resources but it will fall short of demands for electrons once 30-40 percent of the population is driving EV Vehicles.
Hi Meh, sorry, I should make a correction, you are correct that only about 20% of our energy is coal, But you forgot to include 60% from fossil fuels, 39% from natural gas and .4% from petroleum. All carbon based polluters. Does not sound to green to me.
So it is a much wider than the Colorado but the same length.
That is interesting.
Its as wide as a Raptor. With the shorter length and 4-wheel steering it has the turning radius of a Chevy Sonic.
I absolutely love this truck so much and I am not a Truck person. Too bad I cannot afford one.
Hummer was and is the epitome of vulgarity!
Explains why rich people will buy them, so vulgar lol. Sorry you’re so jealous.
I am not the least bit jealous.
That’s the answer a jealous person WOULD give.
What’s the towing capacity and how far can you go on a charge ?
One has to think it shouldn’t be difficult to increase the bed of the GMC Hummer EV and given it’s width, a longer bed may be better; this as to be considered as the starting point for the next generation Cadillac Escalade which is scheduled to become a EV by 2030.
Easy now! I need it to fit into my garage! Increasing the bed length will require me to knock out a wall to where the front part of the truck is in my family room. Well, wait, the bumper might be wide enough to place my beer on while watching football.
No manufacturer ever built one vehicle that meant all things to all people. The future is with electric vehicles. It’s a new design and will progress and change as all models always do. The original Hummer made it through 3 sizes and almost a 4th.
Change is constant and I can’t wait to see what’s next! When manufacturers compete with different technology the consumer wins.

The lovers and going to love and the haters are going to hate…
But personally I dig it! The Avalanche style one piece body, IRS, distinct personality, good looks…and its electric. But the coolest part is the 80’s throw back T-tops, I just love that. Reminds me of the coolest feature of my 87 Grand National.
Not sure I would be in line for the first $112k version, but the lower end models aren’t much worse that I shelled out for my ’19 L5P Dually. Can a Chevy version be far behind?
And my god is this thing begging for hydrogen fuel cell power…
I wonder who will get production number “1”? Jay Leno or Arnold Schwarzenegger? It was Arnold who started the Hummer craze when he asked AM General to buy one as it became known as the H1.
I am very curious also as to the vehicle height. It would be important to me to know the height with the GPS antenna, to see if it will fit in a garage with a 7′ garage door height. Would like this specification if possible.
Great deception about the price and the range, I don’t see anyone going to the desert with these machine, he would have interest to take portable solar panels! Again, this vehicle will not worry Tesla. Tesla becomes a mainstream carmaker, while GM becomes a niche carmaker.
Hummer > Cybertruck
Has anyone ever visited True Vape USA? 🙂
20 year-old Homeopath Rodger from Aldergrove, usually spends time with interests including snowshoeing, and consuming out. Last month just traveled to Harar Jugol
I just got one. LOVE IT! I had two H2’s but this one is better designed and more fun. My power comes from a Nuke Plant about 20 miles away so it’s pretty green. It’s going to take me a month to figure out all of the stuff that comes with this thing.
