Earlier this week, GM Authority took a look at the refreshed interior in the upcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, courtesy of a prototype model caught conducting some real-world testing. Spy photos of the prototype revealed a number of interesting details, including what appeared to be the use of GM’s Super Cruise technology in conjunction with towing.
For those who may be unaware, Super Cruise is General Motors’ semi-autonomous driving assistance technology, which allows drivers to remove their hands from the steering wheel during long-distance stints on the highway. First introduced as a Level 2 type autonomous technology on the 2018 Cadillac CT6, Super Cruise has since expanded to the Cadillac CT5, Cadillac CT4, and all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade, and is now poised to make the jump into other GM brands and vehicles as well – including the 2022 Chevy Silverado.
That much is evidenced by the steering wheel spotted in this prototype vehicle, which comes with a distinctive green light along the top rim, indicating that GM Super Cruise is turned on. Critically, it looks as though the semi-autonomous drive system was enabled while the prototype vehicle was towing a large trailer behind it.
While GM Authority has previously covered that the 2022 Chevy Silverado will offer GM Super Cruise technology, this is the first time we’ve seen it used in conjunction with a vehicle that’s towing. The exact role Super Cruise will play while towing is currently unclear, but either way, the revelation is undoubtedly quite compelling.
In addition to Super Cruise, the 2022 Chevy Silverado will also come with a redesigned interior with an integrated infotainment screen mounted in the dash, similar in layout to the all-new 2021 GMC Yukon Denali. What’s more, the upcoming refreshed Silverado will ditch the column-mounted shifter seen on prior models in favor of a new push-button shift system, once again like the 2021 GMC Yukon.
Further changes will include revised styling for the front and rear fascias.
We’ll have more coverage on the upcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado refresh posted soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevrolet Silverado news, Chevrolet news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
