2021 Chevy Malibu Sport Edition Now Available On Configurator

Following the introduction of the ninth-generation Chevy Malibu for the 2016 model year, the current 2021 Chevy Malibu brings a few minor changes and updates, including the addition of the Sport Edition package. Now, the new styling upgrade can be found on the 2021 Chevy Malibu configurator, giving us a better look at what it has to offer.

GM Authority was the first to show off the new 2021 Chevy Malibu Sport Edition back in July, providing a preview of the package and its various aesthetics upgrades.

The Sport Edition package is offered on the LT trim level, and comes with the following content:

  • 19-inch Black-painted aluminum wheels
  • 245/40R19 all-season tires
  • Nameplate badge finished in Black
  • Blacked-out grille
  • Black front and rear Bow Tie badges

The Sport Edition package can be added to any exterior color in the 2021 Chevy Malibu paint options list, with the exception of Mosaic Black Metallic. The only interior color available with the package is Jet Black.

The 2021 Chevy Malibu Sport Edition featured here is finished in Cherry Red Tintcoat, which provides a nice offset to the package’s dark trim and detailing.

To note, the 2021 Chevy Malibu Sport Edition is more or less identical to the Midnight Edition package, introduced on the 2020 Malibu, in terms of content. However, the Midnight Edition is only offered in conjunction with Mosaic Black Metallic paint, whereas the Sport Edition is offered in conjunction with all exterior colors except Mosaic Black Metallic. As such, the Sport Edition package essentially expands the content of the Midnight Edition package to non-black paint finishes.

For now, the future of the Chevy Malibu nameplate remains uncertain. The Malibu is one of just three new General Motors sedan models sold in the U.S., and it’s likely the automaker will drop the Malibu outright after the 2023 model year.

  1. Funny thing, Honda and Toyota did this to the Accord and Camry about four years ago. What took GM soooo long?

Honda & Toyota must have messed it up. Because Accord & Camry sales have fallen off by 1/3 in the last 4 years.

      1. Really? Malibu sales fell to 7th place in the category, while Camry and Accord are 1 and 2. Its all relative. Hey, just saying. I drive a Buick Encore. Opel design, made in Korea.

          In 2014: 428,000 Camrys; 388,000 Accords & 188,000 Malibus were sold in the U.S.
So far this year: 204,000 Camrys; 145,000 Accords & 73,000 Malibus were sold in the U.S.
Looks like Camry and Accord sales are down by 200,000 units while Malibu sales are only down by ~ 100,000.

          1. Peter, not really sure your point is made here. Between the virus and fact that people are passing on sedans still has Accord and Camry far ahead of Malibu sales. The fact that Honda and Toyota made an attempt to spruce up their models, well ahead of GM, that was my point.

              1. GM dividend its car sales between Regal, Impala, Camaro & Malibu. GM also builds a full line of Crossover/SUVs drawing in customers
              2. GM shut down production twice. Once for the strike. a second time because of Corona
              3. Car sales are falling. GM should be very careful investing in variants

              1. Toyota also offers AWD on the Camry. Point, Honda and Toyota still sell cars, along with a slew of trucks and SUV’s.

    2. I do believe that the Malibu is one of the most important cars in the midsize sedan
All indications refer to the Malibu sales will rise in the upcoming stage moreover the Malibu has a brilliant reputation in the international market especially in the middle East and Asia
I do believe that the Malibu must continue for decade

  3. Outside trucks and SUVs GM offers very little to prospective customers.

  4. Malibu desparately needs the 3.6 V6 now that the Impala is dead. I say make the 3.6 standard and continue to churn out the Malibu for fleet sales for years and years until the tooling wears out like they did with the old W-Body Impala.

    1. I tend to agree, but I think most of their resources go into trucks and electrification.

    2. weren’t they first with the “get the hell out of europe” idea.

how about the charge more for crappy interiors idea?

i don’t think you are being fair.

      1. The only mistake they made in Europe, was letting Opel go.

    3. No, it goes back a lot further. I was a salesman for Chevy and Olds in the 90’s. I kept asking “Does anyone in charge know what they are doing?”

  6. Add a more powerful 2.0l and Malibu wagon concept and you’ve got a hit if it’s available with All Wheel Drive. You shouldn’t have to buy a luxury vehicle to get a well equipped all wheel drive Sedan. One of GM’s most vacant platforms. Like a friend of mine told me years ago he’d buy a Chevy sedan if he could get it in all wheel drive, bought a Subaru instead.
A model similar to Honda’s Crosstour would be a great option for people who like sedans, but don’t want a crossover.
With the economic impact Covid 19 has had anything more fuel efficient would leave more money in people’s pockets for family and necessities. Turbocharged 4 cylinders do well at fuel economy and performance Personally I like the 1.6 diesel, but now that’s gone. Technology is at a cross road in automobiles. The future will be with electrics but what you fill in in between is up for grabs.

  7. I enjoy browsing new vehicle sites and even building out cars now and then (this also keeps my mind more competitive in my business). Just the other day I noticed the 21 Malibu was online and built some different packages. All I can say is that I’d go with the Cadillac CT4 way before the loaded Malibu for the same basic price! I do like the Malibu, but why not go with the CT4? About same size, rear drive, better warranty, Cadillac name, more customer benefits and same basic engine. The loaded Malibu hits $36K while the starting priced CT4 is $35K. Easy one for me.

  8. Its a good looking car , but would have been better in 2017 . gm always behind and playing catch-up . GM needs to keep some small cars in planning as people in bg citys go back to work and dont trust mass transit will want transportation of their own that they can park in the tight spaces of the cities . Look at Kia and Hyndai , they are set up fr the city recovery from Covid .

  12. The all show and no go package version 10. How many variations of Black top this, RS that and Sport editions are we going to get with the lowest HP in it’s class 1.5? It’s obvious there letting this car rot on the vine just like they do with so many other vehicles.
