1972 Chevy Nova Customized By Graffiti Artist Risk

Monster Energy is giving away a custom 1972 Chevy Nova to help launch two new additions to the Monster Energy flavor lineup. The one-off Nova sports a custom paint job by Risk, a Los Angeles-based graffiti artist and fashion designer.

The two new flavors are dubbed Juice Monster Papillon and Khaotic, with the customized Chevy Nova taking after the can design of the latter flavor with regard colors and styling.

“Partnering with monster on the Khaotic and Papillon launch has been an amazing opportunity,” Risk said. “Khaotic represents West Coast style with it vibrant juice and energy blend so I wanted to incorporate those elements into the Khaotic car and can designs. Khaotic and Papillon are bright and colorful and I really had fun creating all these pieces with Juice Monster.”

Risk painted the 1972 Chevy Nova in his backyard, transforming the coupe’s simple gray and silver design scheme into a brightly colored assemblage of hues and styling elements. Simultaneously, the wheels, front grille, and bumpers stay black and gray, offsetting the swirling colors covering the body panels.

“I have a graffiti background, I used to paint illegally, paint the streets, freeways and stuff like that” Risk says. “It’s more of an energy style painting. I paint rough on purpose a lot. I did sign painting, painted cars, we had to be meticulous, and I think this is what I’m really happy doing.”

With the custom 1972 Chevy Nova now complete, Monster Energy will the give the car away on December 15th, 2020, as part of a promotion through monsterenergy.com. What’s more, 50 other fans will win a Juice Monster backpack secondary prize.

  1. Ruined that Nova. Maybe it’s water color and can hide that off? Customized is a matter of opinion.

  2. Glad to see them giving away this car. No one would ever pay for it.

  3. Somebody will buy it. I’ve been in the automotive art and customizing biz for 40 plus years. I’ve done some weird crap on cars and most people hated it but there was always that one person who defies logic by whipping out the cash. And as for customized… it’s a matter of individualization, not opinion.

  4. I have seen that name “Risk” on many railroad cars. Wonder if he did all of them? That’s a lot of spray paint.
