This eye-popping purple 1947 GMC COE truck is currently for sale at a classic car dealership in the Metro Detroit area and could make the perfect stylish hauler for a classic, muscle car or race car.
This truck, which is currently listed for sale for $51,900 at GR Autogallery in Grand Rapids, has been completely rebuilt and is a much more modern offering than its old school exterior might suggest. The inline-six engine that originally came in this truck has been yanked out in favor of something much more up to the task of car-hauling: a 454 cubic inch Big Block V8. Paired with the carbureted Big Block is a TH400 four-speed automatic transmission.
In addition the Big Block V8, the builders of this unique 1947 GMC COE, Bob Taylor’s Classic Auto in Bloomington, Illinois, also added some more modern options to the flatbed, as well, including power steering, power brakes, functional heating and air conditioning and a stereo. The interior has been reupholstered with matching purple and beige two-tone fabric and also features a billet steering wheel, a cueball-style shift knob for the automatic gear selector and Autometer gauges.
According to GR Autogallery, this 1947 GMC COE was previously owned by an “elite” car collector and as such it “has always been properly stored and maintained.” This truck certainly looks as though it has been well-taken care of since it was restored (it’s not clear when the restoration was completed) and with just 3,950 miles on the odometer, it seems as though it’s been driven sparingly too.
While this truck currently has a black and purple exterior paint scheme, the new buyer could give it a new color theme to match the classic car or race car that they might want to haul with this flatbed, which would definitely turn some heads when pulling into the car show or dragstrip, for example.

Four speed turbo 400? “Restoration “ the writer needs to check the facts on this one… maybe even look up the definition of “”restoration “
Sweet ride. Yeh “Turbo 400” is not a 4 speed tranny. It’s the best 3 speed automatic, GM ever made! The only thing missing on this rigid a solid front Dana 60 axle. Then it would be able to cross any terrain. Gotta go with an all black interior tho. These just look better with a sold classic interior look.
